Improve restore speed with Proxmox Backup Server

$

Hello, I would like to check if there's a way to improve the speed when restoring backups in my Proxmox using backups made through Proxmox Backup Server.

I have a system with Proxmox Backup Server 3.2, where the datastore is a volume connected to a NAS via NFS. The NAS has a RAID 1 setup with two disks (2x SATA HDDs) and is connected to the network through a 4-port 1Gb LACP. My Proxmox server is connected to the backup network through a single 1Gb port.

When restoring backups, I see that...

Is it possible to wake up vm using keyboard and mouse that are connected to the host?
Whenever Win11 VM goes to sleep you have to wake it up with resume in proxmox.

Poor-man DRP with two nodes

Hi,

I have a node 1 that I want to back up in DRP every day (not enough performance/money for BCP)

I created a Node 2 with the idea that if Node 1 fails, I manually "switch" to Node 2 (just changing DNS)...

I first thought about a PBS, but from what I see, it requires at least, 3 machines...

Are there other (simple) solutions?
Replication ? clone ?

Thanks for you help...

PMG > lots of "connect from unknown" in Tracking Center

Am I right, that I can reject emails from unknown senders with this setting? My log is full of it, and I guess someone tries to send over the gateway, without permission.
Hope that this does not effect legit mails...

Can anyone tell me, how this actually works? I mean do they try to send without any authentication at all?
Would be nice to understand the procedure, spammers use here!

Prune simulator

Hi.

I'm playing with the prune simulator and I see something I don't understand. See the attached image.

I am doing a daily backup (Monday to Sunday at 14:30).

If I set 2 in the keep-hourly retention option, according to the documentation -and the simulator's help- I should keep backups for the last 2 hours.

keep-hourly <N>
Keep backups for the last <N> hours.

As I'm doing backups only once a day, in the last two hours I could only have 1 or 0 backups...

3 NICS 2 bonded with 802.3ad plus failover to second switch?

$

Hi,

Ive got two Nic's on each of my Proxmox servers aggregate bonded together via 802.3ad to my vmbr and connected to a high speed switch. I have a spare third Nic on each server which I would like to connect to a lower speed switch as a failover. Just incase the high speed switch fails or is rebooted. Is this possible? I don't have the ability to 802.3ad across switches.

Thanks

Chris

Bitmap sehr schnell dirty

Hallo,

Application panicked!

refreshed the page and I clicked again & didnt see the error

Finally was able to replicate this. Click on a remote & before the CPU Usage pane loads, click on the graph area multiple times, this happens.

unstable node after installation 8.3

Hello, I had proxmox VE working on a mini pc. Had it installed on one of the nvme disks. I had to make changes to whole home network and server setup so decided to go for a fresh new installation of Proxmox VE on the same device. installation was quick, however I get no display after reboot. I tried 3-4 times. I get the same outcome. I wonder what I must be doing wrong?

Any suggestions? what all can I debug?

Ceph x daemons have recently crashed

Since last Ceph update (to current 17.2.5) we noted that every node reboot will mark OSDs from that node as crashed. However they return with the server boot normally.

I checked ceph and journalctl logs, and I did not find anything relevant about the daemons crashing (timeout, segfault, etc)

Is this something normal after the reboot (the CEPH HEALTH_WARN)? Seems not, because this is new for us.

Disk usage confusion - There are no machines or backups in use, but still PM reports disk full?

I'm looking for a little assistance with a scenario that has me completely stumped. VERY new to ProxMox and only a moderate user of the Linux system. Installed PM version 8.3.3 and started to try and create some storage. I had a couple of VMs installed and running, but kept finding that I had them located in the wrong place (I have two large external drives attached and want everything spilt between these so that the local drive partitions only get used for running PM). ProxMox has started...

Configuration Suggestion for Proxmox VE and Ceph

$

Good Morning,

I'm also new to Proxmox. We have 9 HPe Gen11 servers with four 6.4tb SSD drives for each server for a total of roughly 24tb of local space per server. We are going to setup a cluster with Ceph and will let Ceph manage the storage.

The question I have is do I put any kind of RAID when I initially setup a Proxmox VE node or do I add the disks after installation? Also, do I use any RAID on the disks or use ext4 or xfs or any of the zfs raid options? I understand there are alot...

Deleting files does not reduce local-lvm capacity.

First of all, at the beginning I am Japanese and I use a translation tool called Deepl.
Therefore, some sentences may not be correct. If this is the case, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Also, this is my first time using a forum like this, so I'm sorry if I'm using the wrong forum posting method.

Uploading and deleting files does not reduce space in local-lvm.
The same applies if you delete a file and wait an hour.

The only way to reduce this is to delete the CT...

expanding lvm-thin pool

hi, i'm fairly new to proxmox and getting on with it. i've first installed in on a 240gb ssd and then cloned on a 500gb ssd drive as i've had it available.

now despite using the gparted to expand the partition, in proxmox the pve-data-pool still shows at 149gb, but the disk sdb3 shows the full 464gb. how do i go about expaning it to take the full drive? Thought it would be done on the flight, as previously i've installed on a 120gb and easily migrated/cloned it on the 240gb it is on now...

Taking advantage of Special vdev after data has been written

$

Hi,

I need a little sanity check. I have added special vdev to my 8TB datastore to make verifying a little faster. I do know that once data is written, it won't magically take advantage of this new addition.

Unfortunately, I do not have 6TB+ necessary lying around to do the "zfs send / receive" that is typically done. I am wondering if it makes any sense to put the datastore offline, take the .chunks folder, and (with a script) copy each subfolder into a new one, delete the old one, and...

Hallo zusammen,

Bash:
