Media Pool Retention, how to calculate

Hello again
We're running slowly out of tapes and are unsure how the retention has to be calculated

Retention = 4 weeks
Allocation = fri, 20:00h
backup-jobs
  1. Starting with Fridays, full backup (needs two tapes, runs until Sunday morning)
  2. Starting with Sundays until Thursday = latest only
So I think, on the fifth Friday the first set should expire? But actually, I still see this tapes with Status "full".
Or is this calculated on the date of the last use? Then it would perhaps...

Backup traffic through fiber.

To connect to a PBS we must inform its IP and the backups will be made through that IP network, but would there be a way to make the backups go through the FC network?

In an arrangement like the one in the diagram, even though the PVE sees the block device through fiber, the backup traffic would still be through IP, correct?

I haven't created a zvol as in the diagram yet, but would that /dev/zd0 block device be seen by PBS or would it need to be another block device to be visible to...

Feature Request 2024: Multi-Cluster/Node Management?

Are there any thought's on having a Multi-Cluster and/or Multi-Node-Management Option?

At the moment I have different Proxmox-VE Clusters running here as well as some single Nodes. For the future I'd like it more to have single nodes. instead of Clusters, because, when there's no shared Storage, there's no need for the higher requirements of a cluster. Since Cross-Cluster-Live Migration is basically working, a web interface would be very helpful here.

LXC containers, cloud-init, and hook scripts?

Howdy, folks.

Can I get an affirm on this? Proxmox does not support cloud-init for LXC containers, correct? I'm looking at the API docs and they seem to suggest as much as the endpoints and parameters available on the QEMU VM API are not reflected on the container endpoints.

Also, I did some digging into hook scripts as possible alternative. The docs are a bit thin on this feature but it looks to me like hook scripts execute on the Proxmox server for various lifecycle events for both...

Hey zusammen! Ich habe gerade ein ziemlich wildes Problem. Ich habe einen LXC für Wireguard erstellt und die notwendigen Zeilen sowohl in der config des LXC selbst als auch auf dem Host entsprechend der OpenVPN-anleitung hinzugefügt.

Allerdings scheint es so, als dass ich keine Verbindung herstellen kann. Außerdem, im Gegensatz zu den anderen LXCs, funktioniert ein einfaches "ping google.com" in der Konsole des Containers nicht – es gibt nach ein paar Sekunden einen Timeout-Fehler. Wenn ich...

Weird SMB Share Issue

Hello,

I am sure there is something that I am misunderstanding, but here is an issue I am having and don't know what the solution is. I have been troubleshooting for days now.

Windows Server 2019 Proxmox VM - 192.168.0.10
Ubuntu SMB-Share Container - 192.168.0.3
Proxmox Host - 192.168.0.2

The two VMs are on a bridge configured as follows:

Datasets sind vollgelaufen - Snapshot Tasks

Hi,

ich dachte das wäre nun alles erledigt und alles läuft ohne Probleme. Aber die Snapshot Tasks haben nun mein "Pool" auf 90% volllaufen lassen. Ohne Snapshot liegt es bei 60%, da Nextcloud Data sich ja 1TB reserviert, weil ich so viel Cloud Storage bei der Installation angegeben habe. Und Nextcloud System hat irgendwie 100GB. Keine Ahnung warum so viel... aber nicht so wichtig.

Nun habe ich neue Tasks erstellt, damit alles nicht so voll läuft. Dazu habe ich als erstes einen Replication...

Help understanding options when removing VM/LXC

I want to make sure I fully understand these options to make sure I don't delete something I didn't mean to.

* Purge from job configuration

This one seems pretty straightforward to me, if there are any jobs for backups and stuff like that for the VM/LXC, those jobs will be deleted with the VM/LXC. Seems like a no-brainer to enable.

* Destroy unreferenced disks owned by guest

This one I'm a little less clear on. From what I've been able to glean from other posts and such, leaving this...

Help with PVE firewall configuration

Hi, we've never used pve-firewall and now trying to consider it for a server.
This is an OVH installation so we have a host IP and additional ones assigned to a KVM.
I did some testing but none of the rules applied to the KVM itself seemed to work. At the host level they worked but only after a restart.
So my questions, to confirm we can use it or not are:
- can I have it activated at a KVM or CT level only? By that I mean, firewall running without rules on the host.

Hi

I have manipulated two files from the Proxmox web frontend to include the temperature of my CPU.
Unfortunately, I have messed up something but I don't know where exactly. And I forgot to create a backup of the files as well.

Therefore I ask kindly, If someone could send me this two files?
So I can copy the them in again and restore the dashboard to default.

I use 8.2.4

kvm runs in user.slice cgroup instead of qemu.slice, flooding syslog

Running a VM via the shell (to institute additional command line parameters) results in the syslog being flooded with qmeventd events like the following:
Code: 
qmeventd[1038]: error parsing vmid for 3371241: no matching qemu.slice cgroup entry
qmeventd[1038]: could not get vmid from pid 3371241

Running cat /proc/$(ps auxf | grep kvm | grep " <VMID> " | awk '{print $2}')/cgroup reveals:

0::/user.slice/user-0.slice/session-142.scope

However, when run the unmodified VM via the PVE GUI...

Linux Container Lost network packages

Hi, i am running Proxmox VE 8.2.4

I have 3 containers running OK, but when i create a fourth with the same distro (debian) and same network settings (different IP but same subnet), the container lost network packages randomly, can you guide me on how to debug the situation?

Access proxmox from pfsense LAN

Hi,

I'm still new to the proxmox world, I wanted to understand how to access proxmox from the pfSense LAN network.

Here is my configuration:

proxmox
- vmbr1 -> home modem (192.168.1.9/24)
- vmbr0 -> access point for home network (wifi + 4 pc lan)

pfsense (VM on proxmox)
- vmbr1 -> WAN (192.168.1.10/24)
- vmbr0 -> LAN (192.168.100.1/24)

in each new VM or CT I assign the vmbr0 network. Everything seems to work. In each VM/CT I have an internet connection and I can make them...

Extremely Slow Download of Updates

While doing now the usual Proxmox VE updates in shell, I'm getting extremely low download rates. Example:

Get:1 http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve bullseye/pve-no-subscription amd64 pve-kernel-5.15.107-2-pve amd64 5.15.107-2 [76.8 MB]

It eventually cuts out completely.

This has never happened...

H310 - IT mode needed?

Hi.

I finally acquired a server to play with: PowerEdge 720 with an H310.

I will be installing Proxmox on the server on a sata SSD connected to the 2.0 sata port that's noramlly used for the optical drive. I will fill the drive slots with a mix of SSDs and 1 or 2 4TB HDDs. Maybe some nvme riser cards in the future...

Would I get the best performance by flashing the H310 into IT mode. I have read many different articles about it. The general consensus is that it's a good idea to flash into...

SDN VNet Trunking/Tagging

Hello,
Looking for guidance on how to enable trunking/tagging on an SDN VNet. Use case is pictured below.

Host is bonded to a switch over 4x interfaces, vmbr0 has bond0 as a member and is vlan aware.
There is an SDN zone named "Public" that has vmbr0 as the bridge.
There are multiple vnets with tags that reference the Public zone and all of them are working fine (eg. VM1)

What I'm trying to do is create a VNet that can "pass the trunk" to a VM (eg. VM2). I thought all I would have to do...
