Backup suceeds but ends up failing verification

For all of my VMs, backups always succeed.
For some of them however, the result is bad:
  • they fail verification
  • the first stored disk cannot be downloaded, the http response is:
    • unable to read fixed index <filename> - Unable to open fixed index <filename> - got unknown magic number
  • of course, the file restire function also gives an error:
    • Starting VM failed. See output above for more information. (500)
    • I failed to find any further information in the...

Changing the hostname of a Proxmox 8 VE

I tried changing the hostname using hostnamectl and editing the hostname in /etc/hosts but that broke the node completely and the panel showed up empty upon login. I changed back to the old hostname and rebooted and everything's fine now.

I already read the doc and it says that hostname may only be changed if a node has no VMs but I already do have a few VMs and want to change the hostname of the node, what is the correct/official way to achieve this without breaking anything?

Proxmox an network connections

i have a new proxmox install. i have setup several vm's which all get internet access. I can connect to the proxmox web interface but from the shell(for proxmox) I have no internet., using a wired connection.I tried to apt install -y wireless tools.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Transfer WinSrv vms linked clone without setting a cluster

Hi, We are replacing a pve 7.x server with a new one with pve 8.x.

For this, we want to transfer all the windows vms to the new server without generating a cluster, since the currently operational pve 7.x server will go offline once everything is moved to the new pve 8.x

The vms in pve 7.x are windows "linked cloned" lvm.

A simple option is to backup the vms and transfer them, but they would no longer be "linked cloned" which would load the disk unnecessarily.

Hi,
today I begin to use the very interesting proxmox on a minipc. I 've a 256 gb drive . During installation i 've set install partition at 128 gb. Now I see a local drive of 44 gb and local-lvm of 64.88 gb.

firstly I 'd like to understand how to use the other 128 gb ssd space as virtual drive and secondly how to change the local and local-lvm size .

Hallo zusammen,

Ich möchte IOMMU auf meinem V8.2.2 aktivieren.
Hierzu habe ich folgende Schritte unternommen:

in /etc/default/grub die Zeile GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet intel_iommu=on" eingetragen/ersetzt
danach update-grub
danach in /etc/modules folgendes hinzugefügt
vfio
vfio_iommu_type1
vfio_pci
vfio_virqfd
zum Schluss: update-initramfs -u -k all

im Bios danach VT-d aktiviert.

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4
Mobo: Asus X99-A/USB 3.1
PCIe Peripherals: LSI SAS2308 HBA, MSI GTX 980 Ti GPU

Offsite Backups PBS

Hello,

I have a big pool of HDD storage in RAID 10 alongside NVMe Drives on my proxmox cluster.
The VM Data Drives are stored on the NVMe storage while backups are taken on the Local HDD Storage which is shared over NFS. The NFS share is in the same building as the Hypervisors.
In addition to the local HDD backup, I am looking into a mechanism to keep a copy of the backups at a remote (offshore) location which has around 70ms of latency and is running PBS accessible over public networking...

Since unprivileged LXCs are not allowed to mount CIFS shares and priviliged LXCs are considered unsafe (for a reason) I was scraping my head around how to still have my NAS shares available in my LXCs, f.e. (Jellyfin, Plex, ...).

The solution provided by the Proxmox Wiki would require many changes to the PVE host config, which I was not willing to do.

Can I blacklist a GPU, rather than the drivers, for PCIe passthrough?

I have 2 Intel Arc GPUs. One of them is used by Proxmox and is used by Plex and Jellyfin. The other one I want to passthrough to a Linux VM. I've gone through all the steps to enable the passthrough except for blacklisting the drivers. I don't even know if blacklisting the Arc drivers is even possible as they seem to be baked into Linux because both GPUs were working as soon as I put them into the server. Hola. I struggled through this one recently and figured I'd share.

The Overview:

We're looking for an unprivileged LXC to serve as a Jellyfin server. We want to use an Nvidia GPU (in this case a GTX 1070Ti) that is also used by other LXCs for other services. dirty/new bitmaps

I installed PBS and TrueNas as nfs-datastore. Setup went well w/o any issues.
But after 1st full backup , the second/incremental one started with "creating new bitmaps":

INFO: virtio0: dirty-bitmap status: created new
INFO: virtio1: dirty-bitmap status: created new

Fullbackup lasted 16h and this incremental one will last cca 4h

It is obvious that pbs must go through whole vm-image of 1.5T ... The read-speed is about 100 Mibs which is not that "tragic" but why it cannot switch to...

Another Thunderbolt Networking Thread ...

I’ve set up Thunderbolt networking on two 10th-gen Intel NUCs using Thunderbolt 3, but I’m only getting an average throughput of 35-40 Mbps in iperf3 tests. I’ve double-checked all the settings multiple times and tried two different Thunderbolt 4 cables. I've tried a few different Proxmox kernels suggested in other forums, etc. Any suggestions?

Hi,

ich dachte das wäre nun alles erledigt und alles läuft ohne Probleme. Aber die Snapshot Tasks haben nun mein "Pool" auf 90% volllaufen lassen. Ohne Snapshot liegt es bei 60%, da Nextcloud Data sich ja 1TB reserviert, weil ich so viel Cloud Storage bei der Installation angegeben habe. Und Nextcloud System hat irgendwie 100GB. Keine Ahnung warum so viel... aber nicht so wichtig.

Nun habe ich neue Tasks erstellt, damit alles nicht so voll läuft. Dazu habe ich als erstes einen Replication...

I am pretty new to proxmox and all the networking stuff and I have a doubt about bind mounts and smb shares. I have a unprivileged container (101) in proxmox configured with a smb share over a zfs pool (called Nas). I had to access some folders of this share from other container (for example syncthing or calibre). To do this I just bind mounted the

ich habe mein Cluster - bestehend aus 3 Nodes - heute vom 8.0.x auf 8.2.3 über die GUI upgedatet. Für die ersten beiden Nodes ist das Update erfolgreich durchgelaufen und auch der Neustart konnte erfolgreich durchgeführt werden. Beim Update des dritten Nodes ist irgendwann - vermutlich vor erfolgreichem Abschluss des Updates - die Verbindung zur Shell unterbrochen worden. Ich habe danach den betroffenen Node neu gestartet, jedoch wird nicht im Datacenter erkannt. Per Mail...

account for remote sync?

I don't seem to be able to use a secondary account to establish PBS Remote Sync partners.
If I use root@pam to setup the Remote, it can see the remote datastore.
If I use anything else, even if its given full admin at /, I can setup the Remote relationship.
No errors, I see it registered in the GUI but I when I go to build a sync job, I can't see the source (Remote) datastore.

What's the deal here? Does this require some sort of federated login? Am I just doing it wrong?
