Network interfaces down on reboot

Hello there,

I just installed Proxmox VE 8.2.2 on a new Supermicro server hardware with a Broadcom CM57416 NetXtreme-E Dual-Media 10G RDMA Ethernet. Installation works like a charm and the Proxmox boots up to the point where I am shown the IP and port of the web interface.

Bash:
pveversion
pve-manager/8.2.2/9355359cd7afbae4 (running kernel: 6.8.4-2-pve)
Unfortunately, the interface is unreachable, prompting detailed bug-tracking.

As of now, I found out, that the network interface...

Ex-cluster node has frequent writes to pve-cluster and pve-replication

Hi,

Running 8.0.4 on a new install. This was joined to a cluster, had VMs migrated over onto it, and was then removed from that cluster by following "Separate a Node Without Reinstalling". So far so good.

The issue I see is that the following files are written to / re-created every 60 seconds. Taking a zfs snapshot and diffing I see:

Code:
 # zfs diff rpool/ROOT/pve-1@snap1 rpool/ROOT/pve-1@snap2
M /var/lib/pve-manager
M /var/lib/pve-cluster/config.db-wal

cloning a VM with all snapshots

I have a VM that has 13 snapshots in my qcow2 file. While unintentional, I want to conduct a few performance tests without potential consequences to the production VM. For the tests I want all of the snapshots to remain. Per my reading, I did this with the command:

qm clone 116 334 --full true

The VM is off, and the VM is stored on an NFS share on a TrueNAS with all-SSD storage. The networking itself is all 10Gb.

The qm clone command does its thing and goes up to 100%, then throws...

Hi all,

I would like to know how should I setup the following PVE Host instructions to be automatically fired/ran at PVE Host boot time?
Code:
chown 100000:100000 /dev/ppp
What's the best practice way to achieve this?

Let me know,
Thanks,
m.

How to make VM ignore missing luks drives?

$

Hi. I have a luks-encrypted external hard drive plugged into my host machine. I use the host machine to open/decrypt and map the drive to /dev/mapper/my-luks on the host. Then I have that location assigned to a VM as a secondary data (non-boot) drive, which will mount it. Everything works great! Except sometimes I do not have the drives plugged into the host. In this scenario, the VM fails to boot. I get an error saying, "Could not open '/dev/mapper/my-luks': No such file or directory"...

Sudden Bulk stop of all VMs ?

Hi

Every so often, all of a sudden, all guest VMs terminate. Can you please help me troubleshoot why that happens?

I see Bulk start VMs and Containers in the log:
Proxmox.png

dmesg has the proxmox host has normal start-up messages. Nothing for why the VMs were terminated.

All VMs are running Windows 11.

Should I be looking anywhere else for logs?

SMB / Fstab help

After a fully working proxmox server on a old pc I created a new proxmox server on better hardware.

Most of the node is working, but I have two questions remaining.

First Question:

I mounted an existing (shucked USB Western Digital drive with NTFS format) with:

Code:
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/Elements

After which I am able to see all files on the disk.

However, after a reboot I need to remount the drive. But as I've read I can also use fstab in order to make the mount more permanent.

Issue with Space Allocation for Migrated VMs in LVM-thin

Hello!

I have a problem with LVM-thin on my server. I have a cluster with two servers and recently migrated some VMs to the new server. However, the migrated VMs are occupying the entire allocated space instead of dynamically using the space. How can I correct this?

Jellyfin LXC with Nvidia GPU transcoding and network storage

Hola. I struggled through this one recently and figured I'd share.

The Overview:

We're looking for an unprivileged LXC to serve as a Jellyfin server. We want to use an Nvidia GPU (in this case a GTX 1070Ti) that is also used by other LXCs for other services. The sharing of the GPU is why we are not considering using VMs. Additionally, this setup uses an NFS share for the video library, which has a couple other requirements.

Phase one: Installing Jellyfin
  1. We'll...

Transfer WinSrv vms linked clone without setting a cluster

Hi, We are replacing a pve 7.x server with a new one with pve 8.x.

For this, we want to transfer all the windows vms to the new server without generating a cluster, since the currently operational pve 7.x server will go offline once everything is moved to the new pve 8.x

The vms in pve 7.x are windows "linked cloned" lvm.

A simple option is to backup the vms and transfer them, but they would no longer be "linked cloned" which would load the disk unnecessarily.

Is there any documented...

It is safe to run multiple re-verification jobs at on same PBS datastore?

We have verification on all new snapshots, but we want to re-verify backups more often.
The problem is that verification job is doing it one by one, can we do it in parallel by multiply jobs on the same datastore?

PBS Storage bellow is on XFS/mdraid with nvme drives, with read about 80GB/s, and PBS server have 64-cores.
Btw we tested ZFS many times, but mdraid with RAID6 on 24 drives is way more faster than ZFS, and have way more less CPU usage.
Bit rot is not a problem, because we using...

Hi,

I was planning to use my proxmox ceph cluster as source cluster for an external storage cluster, with my k8s cluster as a consumer cluster, but when i run the scripts suggested on https://rook.io/docs/rook/v1.10/CRDs/Cluster/external-cluster/#supported-features
i get some error codes the main one seems to be that prometheus is not installed?

Seeing as the script tries to find and show the following values:
Code:
export ROOK_EXTERNAL_FSID=797f411a-aafe-11ec-a254-fa163e1539f5

Hey,
we are running into issues while we trying to restore an large (1,5TB) vms.
We can reproduce this behavior. Small VMs works fine. Problem exits for different VMs / Backups.
The Snapshots we are trying to restore are verified.
We've tryed this multiple times. It stop on different progress / chunks.
No further tasks ran on the backup server during the restore.

How can we go further and analyse / solve this problem?

I've attached logs for the restore job from PBS and the PVE.

Hallo,

Upgrading Containers to u24.04

TLDR it failed to boot. Then I upgraded proxmox for some other reason and when it rebooted my upgraded container sprang into life.

So the questions is - is this something to do with the kernel being upgraded? I'd just like to understand that a bit better. I had upgraded containers before and just worked and checked the forums and same advice there.

  • Didn't work : PVE 8.2.2 (Linux 6.5.13-1-pve (2024-02-05T13:50Z))
  • Did work PVE 8.2.4 (Linux 6.8.12-1-pve (2024-08-05T16:17Z))
