Opt-in Linux 6.14 Kernel for Proxmox VE 8 available on test & no-subscription

We recently uploaded a 6.14 kernel into our repositories. The current 6.8 kernel will stay the default on the Proxmox VE 8 series, the newly introduced 6.14 kernel is an option.
The 6.14 based kernel may be useful for some (especially newer) setups, for example if there is improved hardware support that has not yet been backported to 6.8.
This follows our tradition of upgrading the Proxmox VE kernel to match the current Ubuntu version until we reach an (Ubuntu) LTS release, like the 6.8...

Are SSD NVMe issues resurfacing with the latest PVE kernel upgrade?

Hi Team,

At the end of 2023, several users reported issues with unexplained loss of access to NVMe SSDs, particularly Samsung 990 Pro NVMe SSDs, which I have. One or more NVMe SSDs suddenly disconnected and were no longer detected by Linux.

The server had to be powered off and then powered back on to detect the NVMe SSD; a simple reboot was insufficient.

The solution was to add `nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0` in GRUB as follows:

VM disk on ZFS

have created zpool in konsole
when creating datasets in konsole i cannot set volblocksize?
disks created on VMs are created as zvols? how to set volblocksize on those zvols?
can add ZFS in GUI->Datacenter->Storag->Add->ZFS, where volblocksize can be set..
zfs list now shows a zvol for each drive added to a VM, which gets messy very fast..
it also shows more free space on the pool, of the size of the VM disk, so overprovision?

Replicated VM Disks and CT volumes show no value on "Date" column

Hello.

I have a cluster with no shared storage. I have configured replication.

If a node fails, I am supposed to manually migrate the already replicated guests through the CLI following these instructions:

Before bringing any replicated disk online, I would like to know its modification date, however I see the "Date" column for both CT Volumes and VM Disks completely empty, it shows no value...

Change PMG hostname

Hello,

How can I change PMG's hostname? During the installation we accepted the default hostname pmg.mydomain.com, now we want to change it to mail.mydomain.com

I want to change the hostname for the whole system/server and not just PMG. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Hi,

i'm having a strange problem with my bare metal offsite Proxmox Backup system, obviously since the laste update
to the newest kernel 6.8.12-9-pve. After the bootup the zfs pools cannot be imported by the system accordingly to
problem with loading the zfs kernel modules, also the systemd-modules-load.service them to fail during boot process.

Liebe Community,

in meinem Mini PC macht die NVMe Probleme, welche der einzige Speicher im System ist. Der neue NVMe Speicher liegt bereit, jedoch bin ich als Proxmox Anfänger völlig überfordert die Daten von dem alten auf den neuen Speicher zu übertragen.

Was ich bisher gemacht habe
- Backup vom /etc und dem var/lib/.../dump Ordner
- das zurück kopieren auf den frischen Proxmox Setup der neuen NVMe führte nicht zum Erfolg, da die Partitionen nicht angelegt sind. (?)

SDN SNAT not working with cluster firewall enabled

Hi all! I've been playing around with EVPN SDNs. I have SNAT enabled on some Vnets. After some ping tests on containers, 8.8.8.8 is unreachable only once enabling the datacenter firewall. All outbound traffic is accepted by default, not sure if EVPNs require inbound rules to the hosts in order for SNAT to function. I've tried allowing all inbound traffic from the Vnet's subnets, but this didn't work. Also tried explicitly allowing outbound traffic from those subnets, no luck either. Any idea...

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe ein komisches Verhalten beim Stromverbrauch festgestellt, wofür ich keine Erklärung finden kann. Ich hoffe hier auf die Schwarmintelligenz.

Ich betreibe Proxmox auf einer i5-13500 CPU.
Für Tests habe ich mir 2 VMS angelegt mit gleichen Einstellungen. Eine mit Windows Server 2022 und eine mit Windows Server 2025.
Beide Maschinen wurden komplett durchgepatcht und der Stromverbrauch begutachtet (natürlich habe ich darauf geachtet das die CPU Load bei 0% liegt - also...

LXC Pass devices

Hi

Is it possible to pass a LXC container devices? A have a tv tuner card I would like to pass

I saw something like this online

lxc.cgroup2.devices.allow: c 226:0 rwm
lxc.cgroup2.devices.allow: c 226:128 rwm

Am I going down the wrong route? I wanted a container to save resources, however I know this is easily done by VM. I would need to do the same again for NAS drives in the future

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to install Proxmox VE 8.4 on a machine with an ASUS PRIME X870-P motherboard, which has a Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet adapter onboard. Unfortunately, during installation, I get a “No network interface found” error.

The LAN port lights up, so the hardware is active, but Proxmox doesn’t detect it. I assume the required driver (likely r8169 or r8125) is missing from the installer.

Has anyone managed to get this NIC working on Proxmox 8.4?

Off-On required to apply RAM memory quantity change

Everytime i change the amount of RAM given to a Windows VM I have to power-off Windows and then power on again, if I do a reboot it do not apply the change. Question: as for other hardware the change is immediate I'm guessing if is it a (mis)configuration issue or better to accept as a Proxmox VE charateristic or limitation ?

Hey there everyone. For the past month or so I've been working to get a Windows 7 machine online to do some work on USB drives. I've been unable across multiple distros and installations to get all of the USB drivers detected and installed. Morning all
I'm running the latest Proxmox VE on a mini-pc in my basement.
For some time now I found updates from the pve-no-subscription repository to be much slower "than they used to be" - somewhere between 100 kb/s and 200 kB/s today.
It's not a networking issue per se, because the VM (yes, only one ;-)) running on that VE server updates very fast.
Is this intentional throttling that has been set up more or less recently (I'm fine with that), or is it a configuration issue on my side...

Proxmox freezing kernel watchdog soft lockup CPU- Intel N100

Hi,
I'm runninng : proxmox-ve: 8.4.0 (running kernel: 6.8.12-9-pve)

HW:
- Asrock N100DC-ITX (latest BIOS v2)
- RAM Patriot Viper Blackout, 3200MHz, 16GB
- SSD ADATA SSD 1TB LEGEND 710

After a few days, first it was 4, last time 12days system freezes, becomes unavailable from the network.
On top I'm running HomeAssistent VM, during the outage in the logs I see that networking is not working on HA, but zigbee network via USB zigbee stick was ok and working.

CPU : AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
Motherboard : Gigabyte B450M DS3H
RAM : 4x 32Go
