I'm using Proxmox 8.3.5 (kernel: 6.8.12-9-pve) with the no-subscription and pvetest repositories added. I received updates while pvetest was still enabled, and after discovering that QEMU 9.2 is available even with the no-subscription repository, I removed pvetest. After the update, I noticed that VMs running other OSes are working fine, but only RHEL-based OSes (CentOS, Rocky Linux) are freezing during installation and booting.

How can I resolve this issue? I believe the updated packages...

I manage a decent-sized Proxmox private cloud for a client consisting of two sites:

Site A (Prod):
PVE 7.4-3
250 VMs (Windows 10, 6GB RAM allocated)
3x Dell R630 w/768GB RAM each

Site B (DR):
PVE 8.3.4 (latest as of Mar 2025)

Hi fellow Proxmox users.

I have been getting constant inbound traffic for last 4 days on my VMs. The weird thing is that I see the same netin graph on both my VMs and host machine.

What might've caused this? There was no change on my server or VMs. I couldn't catch it using iftop or nethogs since Im no expert. But nload shows a constant 15 MBit/s incoming traffic on VMs and host machine.

Should I worry about servers getting infected?

I would like to add a node to my existing proxmox cluster using ansible.

First with CLI, Ie

Please enter superuser (root) password for 'mice':



I don't find in documentation a ‘pvecm add’ argument to specify the password.

Does it exist? Or is there a workaround?

Hi,

Been having this issue for a while now. When the CPU is under low loads (say less than 1-2%) Proxmox will freeze randomly. The journalctl doesn't seem to provide anything meaningful either.

I can run this for days without issue if I keep the CPU at a high idle, say >3%. OpnSense is usually running at all times, although it doesn't use enough of the CPU to bring the load up.


I don't think it's a hardware issue like RAM or PSU, as this would show more when under higher loads

Hello,

we are investigating "hanging" backup jobs in our environment. We have 7 PVE nodes which use 1 PBS server and sometimes backup jobs hang on "Waiting for server to finish backup validation..."

Configuration of PBS:
- AMD EPYC 7313P
- MDADM RAID5 from 12x Samsung PM9A3 15,36TB (NVMe)
- stripe_cache_size = 8192
- group_thread_cnt = 8
- using raw LVM
- mounted 75TB logical volume with ext4
- server is in same network as PVE, no firewall

I'm new here and, as expected, I have a question.

Is it possible to tag the Proxmox host interface AND the guest interface?

Example:
The Proxmox server has only one network connection (Linux Bridge), which is tagged with VLAN ID 120.

On the guest system (Debian), three virtual network adapters should be created via the previously created Linux Bridge interface. These adapters should also be tagged with IDs 120, 121, and 122.

I like proxmox backup server but budget only allows magnetic disks and raidz2.
So especially verify and garbage collect procedures need a hell of a lot of time.
For an 8 TB Backup space today verify needs 2 days and garbage collect needs 1 day.
I think with verify there is not much i can do. Either do it or not.
But a garbage collection should be much faster with a ZFS Special Device on SSD, right ?
Now my questions:
Can I add a mirrored special device to a zfs raidz2 pool ? I read somewhere...

How to access the lvm disk when VM is in powered off state? We do not see the disk in lvm, see output below:

We want to access/read '/dev/lvm1/vm-105-disk-0' when VM is in off state.

i am getting a little frustrated trying the passthrough the iGPU of my Ryzen 7 9800X3D to one of my VM's.

Kernel (pve-headers installed): Linux deb 6.11.11-1-pve #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC PMX 6.11.11-1 (2025-01-17T15:44Z) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Mainboard: Gigabyte X870E

Both devices are separated in its own iommugroup which has no other devices in it, so no conflicts. I have no problem passing through dedicated GPUs (Nvidia and AMD)...

Hi. Need help.

PVE in the section to edit the backup job, I select the PBS server (I select the type - pbs), the compression becomes grayed out and cannot be selected or changed!




If I choose a section mounted by cifs (choose type - cifs) compression, you can choose. Is this how it should work?

Hi All,

We are installed the new PVE but we facing the problem should be memory balloon not working. The host memory usage keep to high even all VM in low usage status.
I also checked that all vm installed the agent and all virtio driver. I have tried to reboot the PVE host but it seem still not working.
May i know some idea how to make the memory balloon working in new enviromnet and Windows server 2022 VM?
