Query on the dirty bitmap

$

Hello All,
Hope this email finds you well.

I have been trying with proxmox for a while now, and have come across a problem specific to dirty bitmaps. I have enabled bitmap on the qcow2 disk image using 'qemu-img bitmap' command, exposed the bitmap over a unix socket using 'qemu-nbd' command. Now when I try to read the bitmap using 'qemu-img map' command with 'x-dirty-bitmap=qemu:dirty-bitmap:{bitmap}' option, I get one single extent which shows that the entire disk is dirty. Note that the...

Hallo Community - kurze Frage zu Load Balancing und Durchsatzleistung

Hallo liebe Community,

Proxmox on SD card

Hello,

Is it a good idea to install Proxmox VE 5 on an SD card?

I have a new Dell R630 server with a dual SD card and I would avoid using my SSD disks to install the system.

Thank you

intel x553 SFP+ ixgbe no go on PVE8

These quit working with the shift to linux kernel 6.*. I reported initially here, but no luck with any of the PVE8 kernels either. I am currently using the last 5.15.108-1-pve kernel successfully otherwise software is latest pve8. Bringing this up again because I have been following along with similar complaints from a VyOS router forum and so far nothing has worked for those reporting issues there either. Latest suspicion is that something is broken in the ixgbe driver in all...

Please allow changing default value of "overrule active shutdown task" to always checked

Hi,

There used to be a lot of problem with people trying to force shutdown VMs while they had another active task blocking it.

This dialog was added

I would like to make it so that "overrule active shutdown task" is always checked by default.

Is there a way to make this change ?

And I suggest adding this default value in the webui interface as well

I think this next dialog would be the good place for it

It would great to also be able to set this default...

Intel N150 Graphics driver issues

Hi all,

So I have been playing around with my new beelink with N150 on board. Everything works nice, except the graphics driver.
I just don't seem to get that working. Any of the vainfo or intel_gpu_frequency commands seem to give me errors. Trying to use hardware acceleration in a LXC does not seem to work either.

When I do lspci -nnkv it will show me the gpu there.

Hello,

The edge-case I bring this fine forum today is that any VM with SEV-ES enabled is failing to start. SEV works perfectly, but the -ES is unhappy.

push sync job users - how many?

$

Hey everybody,

I can't quite wrap my head around how many users are necessary for sync jobs in push-direction in this setup:
PBS1 has 5 datastores with snapshots from different sources in them.
PBS2 also has 5 datastores which contain mirrors of all snapshots from their equivalent datastores on PBS1.
Right now, this is set up with sync jobs in pull direction on PBS2. Those sync jobs use a single user on PBS1 and a single remote config on PBS2.

Now that sync jobs in push direction are...

Help needed: VMs stuck on "Booting from Hard Disk" with Ceph RBD

I am using Ceph RBD as my VM-Image storage backend. Just recently one of my Ceph OSDs crashed, I had to replace it. Now a recovery is running, a few PGs are degraded there.

This resulted in VMs not being able to boot anymore. I don't know if it's just a coincidence that it happended at the same time or if it's related to ceph doing a recovery, but some VMs are stuck at "Booting from Hard Disk" and nothing happens. I already tried playing around with the HDD options of the VMs (skip...

Concurrent backups

I'm assuming yes, but just checking - PBS does "the right thing" if a CT/VM is included in multiple *overlapping* backup schedules? Including if they have different backup strategies?

For example, assume I have CM/VM1 configured in an hourly *snapshot* schedule and a midnight *shutdown* schedule. At midnight, I'd expect one of those to take effect and then the next to take effect.

Can anyone confirm this please.

Garbage collection speed

Hi devs and users,

Personally, I use proxmox in multiple domains (private and semi-professional).
For this reason, I have also two Backup servers running to handle the backups. All servers are doing daily backups, some even more, in total ~5TB with ~200GB changes per week.
One server is running with metadata SSD cached, data HDD ZFS filesystem as a VM. The other is "a bit weird", a cloud instance using remotely mounted storage for financial reasons.
Both of them run really well with a...

Proxmox VE 7.3: Resize disk of running instances with disks in iSCSI storage

Hello,

I have read a similar post with detailed step about that, the main difference is that each of my VM disks is a single LUN (not a large LUN that stores raw or qcow2 disk images). I can:

- Resize the disk on the SAN host
- Rescan iSCSI session and upgrade multipath size on the proxmox servers

I was able to resize the disk inside the vm after i shut it down then started it again.

However, the old size is still showing up in the instance hardware list, and the new size is not...

qemu guest agent vss provider stopped (after backup?)

In Proxmox 8.3 I created two VMs with Windows Server 2019 enabling "QEMU guest agent" in Options. In the VMs I installed QEMU guest agent (108.0.2) and set the related services to start automatically at boot.

Every morning in these two VMs I find the "QEMU Guest Agent VSS Provider" service stopped. If I restart it, the service starts without problems.

I think the problem is related to the Proxmox Snapshot Backup that I automatically perform...

Performance comparison between ZFS and LVM

$

Hi,

we are evaluating ZFS for our Proxmox VE future installations over the currently used LVM.
ZFS looks very promising with a lot of features, but we have doubts about the performance; our servers contains vm with various databases and we need to have good performances to provide a fluid frontend experience.

From our understanding ZFS needs to have direct access to the disks, so the server is required to have a transparent capable controller or none at all.
Instead of use the controller...

Hi,

Sorry I'm very new to Proxmox and I've tried to find similar ports on the forum in regards to my problem, but I'm getting no where.
Can someone please help me out before I reinstall everything, just to find out the problem reappears.
Everything has been running smooth for 2-3 month and now my one and only VM is crashing on startup and I'm getting an io-error triangle in the UI.
