Does anyone use PBS to backup/restore physical Windows/Apple desktops and or laptops? We are currently using VEEAM for this purpose but with our growing Proxmox VE infrastructure, we are now looking at PBS. Thoughts?

Hello everyone,

This is a translated copy of my post in the german part of this forum. I hope the international part of this community can help me.

I'm trying to configure the automatic generation of Let's Encrypt certificates for my Proxmox nodes in my homelab. My DNS provider is All-Inkl (https://all-inkl.com/).

I have installed the "kas" plugin and configured it in Proxmox. I have also entered the API access data for All-Inkl.

Code:

Slow 40GBit Infiniband on Proxmox 8.1.4

Hello folks,

I have 4 nodes cluster build on Dell r730 and r740.
I wanted to improve Ceph performance by installing faster network cards so I bought Mellanox CX314A cards and Mellanox SX6036 managed switch.
Everything is connected and running but OMG terribly slow, it's slower than 10GBit Ethernet I had on my Intel cards.
All I can get from iperf3 is 7,6GBit.
I've read a lot of posts but I cannot find anything useful, some say I should switch to Ethernet but at the moment I don't have a VPI...

Hi all,
i have a ProxMox server with some VMs and one of these has 4GB of RAM assigned.
The ProxMox GUI shows over 90% of RAM used, but most is cached:

I read this is due to Balloning function: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Dynamic_Memory_Management#Ballooning

That's not a problem for me, but it's a problem for the Zabbix monitoring: i installed the Zabbix agent on the VE to monitor the server and the VMs on it, but it always send an alert to report an high...

Having a new card that supports SR-IOV, and not knowing all the ins-and-outs.

I was hoping some of you that are using SR-IOV could outline some the benefits and drawbacks to using SR-IOV.

Any particular use cases could share would be appreciated.

so we have PMG configured to sign all emails with DKIM, and have setup an SPF record and a DMARC record for our outgoing domain.

everything works nicely, except... spamreports generated by proxmox.

at least, spamreports directed at users that have setup a forward to an external domain.

afaict, the problem is as follows:

  • our PMG has the fqdn mailgate.example.com, which resolves to 203.0.113.178; reverse lookup of the...

corosync0 broken on Mellanox Connect-X5?

Hi all,

Bit of a weird issue. I have a 3 node cluster, not sure how this happened but two of them are running 8.2.7 and one is running 8.3.2. They all have Mellanox Connect-X5 100G cards in them for corosync. My two nodes running 8.2.7 work just fine. The node running 8.3.2 can't ping the corosync0 IPs of the other two nodes if corosync0 is set to port 0 as the bridge port. On port 1, this works just fine. It *does* work on port 0 when the port is in promiscuous mode or if I comment out the...

USB3 pass-through fails periodically with transfer event errors

Hi there,

I struggle to pass-through USB devices reliably, it seems. My server has three ports, all of which have a Google Coral USB TPU connected to them, and all are served by the same USB controller in the server. Everything is on-board, no expansion cards or external hubs.

GuestVM (q35, OVMF, uses ZFS) made for the sole purpose of running FrigateNVR through Docker Compose. So:

Bare metal => Debian 11 => Proxmox (and nothing else) => GuestVM => Debian 11 => Docker => Frigate

I've got a host running in a cluster of three hosts. The host in question run one node as a dockerhost (VM) for 3D-printer and CNC-router.
I've attached all USB's to this VM (cameras and the above hardware, as well as unpopulated USB's).
Unless the 3D-printer is turned on, it is a little bit unstable showing signs of underpower but other than that the system is running fine.

However, browsing the console/shell the sreen is filled bottom up with the following error code:

I want to establish an vpn tunnel as site to side connection between two distant pve nodes (pve 1/ pve 2).
pve 1 is on a vps with one public IP
pve2 is behind a fritzbox.

My Setting:

I installed Wireguard-server in a LXC-wireguard on pve 1 and pve 2.
The connection between is LXC-wireguard-pve1 and LXC-wireguard-pve2 is established and from LXC-wireguard-pve1 I can ping all LXC of pve 2.
I configured a route for pve2 in the fritzbox.

Problem:
How can I configure the routing on pve1 that...

98% storage for LVM best practice?

I have been told it's best practice to have only 98% of my storage allocated for LVM in PVE. Is this accurate and/or is it more applicable to older versions? My PVE 8.3.3 install did not give me any place to choose this parameter; it just used 100%.

Hello guys,

I updated my PVE Cluster yesterday to the newest Ceph Version and did not notice any issues at first.
The VMs and CTs do run normally, I can read and write to the virtual disks, even create new ones, just fine! Migrating between Nodes also works, as well as deleting CTs...
But listing the VM and CT disks in the GUI gives me
Code:

Hello,
I am planning to use Proxmox on a DELL PowerEdge R760 as a virtual infrastructure server.
The server has not yet been ordered at this time and we are still working on the configuration.
I would like to connect to the storage (DELL DD6400) using multipath with the following HBA, but this HBA is not listed in the Ubuntu Certificated.
QLogic 2772 Dual Port 32Gb Fibre-Channel HBA, PCIe V2 540-BDHC

On page 25 of the following URL, it is stated that it can be used with Ubuntu, but is there...

Is this proxmox network configuration bad?

Hello,

I have this network configuration and i keep having Quorate issues randomly. I have each LACP connection on separate switches like it shows in the comments. Is it better to just not have backup network connections to keep things simple?

Swap usage always maxed out

$

I'm running a proxmox server in a production environment, and I always see that the swap space fills up after a few days from a reboot. The host has plenty of free memory and usually sits around 80% of 768GB in use, but the swap is at 100% 8GB/8GB. I'm not noticing any performance issues, but is it constantly writing to disk?

Should I be concerned?
I'm on 8.3.3

Thanks

Feature Request: Backup Restoration Jobs

Screenshot_20250206_164639.png
Proxmox VE has the option to create/schedule backup jobs from within the Datacentre.

You can specify the VM's/CT's to be backed up and also what time.
It would be extremely useful to be able to do the same process but with Restorations

I can create something similar using the CLI and a bash script using vzdump

https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Backup_and_Restore

However I have not figured out a way when using Proxmox Backup Server.

Controlling DHCP settings on the host when using multiple interfaces

I have multiple interfaces on the host attached to different switch ports, all using DHCP. I want to have a "primary" interface that sets the default route, the DNS domain and DNS search values (again, all for the host itself).

In Ubuntu using netplan, this is easy, I would do something like:
Code:
network:
  ethernets:
    eno1:
      dhcp4: true
      dhcp4-overrides:
        use-routes: false
        use-dns: false
        use-domains: false
    eno2:
      dhcp4: true
  version: 2

Delete stuck snapshot

$

Hi there,

I have an old snapshot on my system, which won't delete. It's not being used and he status says 'delete' but is appears stuck. If I try and delete it again in the GUI the delete fails, and the VM is locked.
I have to unlock the vm manually on the command line.

Could someone tell me how to manually delete the snapshot from the command line?

Thank you in advance
