Proxmox cluster in limbo

Hi all - I have a Proxmox 7 cluster in a state that has me concerned.

Everything on them was running. Then I couldn't access the web interface. So I tried restarting pveproxy. The restart command hangs.

Anything I do with qm hangs.

pvecm status shows all nodes are up and I have quorum.

I rebooted one node and can no longer see its vms on the web, so they didn't restart.

I can access the web interface on the rebooted node, but login fails with Connection failure. Network error or...

How to optimize ceph performance in proxmox?

I use 4 Dell R740 8 SSD disk slot servers to deploy Proxmox in the lab. 2 of the disk slots use RAID1 for installing the system, and the other 6 disk slots use Samsung 870EVO as CEPH storage.
But after deployment, CEPH's performance is very poor. I used fio to test it, and the iops was very low.
Code:
root@localhost:~# fio --rw=write --ioengine=sync --fdatasync=1 --size=22m --bs=2300 --name=mytest --filename=/dev/sdc
mytest: (g=0): rw=write, bs=(R) 2300B-2300B, (W) 2300B-2300B, (T)...

How to convert Raspberry Pi OS images and import to Proxmox

I have Proxmox installed on a Raspberry Pi 5.

I wanted to have the VMs use the official Raspbian OS images. These are the steps to do it, looks more than it actually is. It was also based off my previous guide to do this on ESXI.

ESXI instructions similar

On a Linux computer:

Code:
apt-get install qemu-utils

Download a Raspberry Pi Image
Code:
xz -d 2024-03-15-raspios-bookworm-arm64-lite.img.xz

qemu-img convert -f raw 2024-03-15-raspios-bookworm-arm64-lite.img -O qcow2...

Any recommendations on “gaming” GPU for VM

Hi!

So I guess I don’t expect to have a straight up flawless experience doing anything visual through a VM but was really wanting to find a GPU where I can, though a VM and on same LAN, experience Gnome top of the line and yeah, some gaming.

I am good for spending $$ if it’s legit but hoping 100-200 range.

With that said, and in a separate card recommendation, do they make cards where you can split to 2-3 vms for gnome/gaming, out of curiosity

Thanks friends

Here at work we use ESXi and are looking to replace it with Proxmox since Broadcom is hell bent on killing itself.

In the test setup I have I have server running proxmox that I was able to import VMs from ESXi very easily. Worked great. I wanted to similar a failure and reinstall Proxmox on a clean drive and Import the VMs, something thats very easy to do in ESXi.

The issue that Im running into is
1. How do I import VMs from an old install to a clean install? The VMs are stored on a...

Enabling Windows Virtualization-Based Security

Hello,

I have multiple Windows 11 24H2 guests with virtio-win-0.1.266 drivers installed, and QEMU agents.

Virtualization of all sorts is enabled in server BIOS, and CPU is set to host for these virtual machines, as to ensure that they can nest virtual machines inside due to business requirements.

Still, I cannot enable Credential Guard, - virtualization-based security seems unable to enable, confirmed by msinfo, where it states that VBS is "Enabled but not running", despite being forced...

Drivers for Windows 9x?

Curious if there are VirtIO drivers available for Windows98 or even older versions like 95 or even 3.11, and also just general drivers for stuff like display, mouse, keyboard etc. I installed Windows 98 just for fun and nostalgia but the cursor keeps loosing sync with console making it hard to use. Ex: my real cursor won't correspond with the one in the OS, so I keep hitting edge of window with real one before the one in OS gets there, and of course display is stuck at low res too. Curious...

Proxmox Server Allows only One VM to Connect to Internet and any other VM Doesn't Connect

Hi

I have a Proxmox 8.3 installed dedicated server. I have created two VMs with ALmalinux 9 installed on them. I have set of 13 usable IPs on my dedicated server.
I can use the first VM with different IPs but second VM doesnt work with any IP. Both VMs are identical in every way, as they both have Almalinux 9 as OS and no other software or configuration running on them. So, the issue must be with the bridging of the Proxmox.

Hence, my first VM works regardless of which IP I set it up on...

2 Node HA Cluster ohne QDevice aufbauen geht das?

Moin,

Setting up a new drive for Plex storage

Preface - I'm a Proxmox/Linux newbie - all my experience is with Windows.

I've installed Proxmox and have Home Assistant (VM) and Plex (LXC) installed. I've just added a hard drive (/dev/sdb), that I would like to use to store media for Plex sharing. That's as far as I got before running out of knowledge and skill!

From here, I need to know the steps to create the folder, and Plex point at it. I would also like to share this folder so I can copy files to it from my Windows PC. Can...

Cannot grant Shell/CLI permissions with @pbs, LDAP or other non pam accounts

Hi Folks,

I've recently tried in Proxmox Backup Server to create a new account for a new admin with full admin permissions, but there's some existing shortcomings that are noteworthy that I want the general public to be aware of. (I'm currently using v2.4-3 and these issues appear to exist even in the latest v3.2 versions too).

This user was created in the @PBS realm, and granted the "Admin" role with full permissions to full scope.
  1. Sys.Console being granted doesn't work and...

LUN Backup Restore - Restore VM

Hello, Running PVE 8.1
I have LVM backed iSCSI on Synology NAS with multiple machines on a 2TB LUN.

I do a LUN backup every other day. One of the machines, (id 121) lost some data.
I restored LUN2 to a different volume as LUN2-COPY, and I want to recover the disk for just VM 121 from the backup and copy it to the real LUN2.

I'm not sure where to start - should I add LUN2-COPY as an iscsi target and see if i can enumerate disks? not sure if it will conflict with existing machine IDs on the...

Hallo zusammen,

Simpler lxc user mains via gui

The uid and gid making that you need to do in the .conf file is one of the most esoteric things in its complexity. It's also quite error-prone.

My suggestion is that, under resources in the proxmox ve gui, you can simply map lxc user to host user (and groups) via user name. It would give you a list of existing users on host and lxc but also allow typing in ones that don't exist. It then runs all the necessary commands on the host and config in the. Conf file to set this up, including...

Hello,

I am currently using Proxmox v.7 on a Dell OptiPlex 3020 equipped with an Intel Core i3-4160 (Dual Core 3.6GHz 3MB w/HD4400 Graphics), upgraded to 16GB of RAM and a Kingston SSD UV500 960GB drive, to run a Home Assistant VM and a second one for Windows 11. I also have an old Synology NAS for photo storage.
I would like to set up a configuration to integrate the whole thing, keep a RAID to secure the DATA (in addition to external backups).

Ceph Ruined My Christmas

Merry Christmas, everyone, if that's what you're into.

I have been using Ceph for a few months now and it has been a great experience. I have four Dell R740s and one R730 in the cluster, and I plan to add two C240 M4s to deploy a mini-cloud at other locations (but that's a conversation for another day).

I have been running Ceph on one subnet with 10GBe NICs. Most of my LAN is 10GBe, except for PIs and NUCs (for personal use) and PBS (working on a better solution for that). I have done a...
