Hard-drive passthrough

Hey everyone
I'm trying to get the smart testing working for my hard drives on my truenas vm after some research I found out I had to pass through the controllers for the hard drives to make it work the only walk through i have been able to find are pass-through with a pcie card. I was wondering if there was a way to passthrough off the sata ports on my mother board? Sorry if in not making since I'm new to this and trying to figure it out as I go. Thanks for any help

Cluster node failed for now reason, VMs got moved, but got no IPv4. How to debug?

Hi there,

I have a 2-node-Proxmox-Cluster using a dedicated QDevice. The nodes are "ernie" and "bert". This morning, for now reason "bert" went offline. As a result, VMs with HA configuration got moved to node "ernie" and started there. However, none of the moved VMs received a IPv4 via DHCP, they were not accessible from my LAN. I had to go to the Console and restart networking.

How can I debug this situation, starting with why bert went down? bert's syslog shows nothing special:

System freezes during backup

I'm having regular, but not predictable, issues with my whole system locking up during vzdump backups. Sometimes I'm able to access the host via the GUI, and all the VMs and containers have question marks, sometimes I can't access it at all, same goes for ssh. I've seen a few threads around talking about this issue but none of the suggested solutions in those seem to be working for me.

I have to admit that the PBS client is a really cool tool but so complicated to use sometimes... or maybe it's me that do not understand how it goes...

Can anybody explain the big performance difference between VIRTIO SCSI and VIRTIO SCSI single especially when using iotread=0 and iothread=1?

TrueNAS Core 13.0 complaining about disks not having IDs

I installed TrueNAS on my Proxmox 7.2 node with a 32GB virtual disk for OS and a 1.5T disk for data.

When I want to create a pool in TrueNAS, I get the following error

There are 1 disks available that have non-unique serial numbers. Non-unique serial numbers can be caused by a cabling issue and adding such disks to a pool can result in lost data.

What can I do to make Proxmox assign proper UUIDs to the disks?

File restore (NTFS) - all mount failed or no supported file system

I have same problem, like in this topic (German) https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/file-restore-aus-proxmox-backup-server.133168/ Member fabian build proxmox-backup-restore-image_0.6.1~test1_amd64.deb for test, and it works not as well

After upgrading to proxmox-backup-restore-image_0.6.1~test1_amd64.deb i can mount (very slowly mount, but ok) and see ntfs volume. but not all directorys. If name of directory contain for example Cyrillic name, i can't see this directory

How to replace the NBP (Network Boot Program) of the Q35 EFI VM to iPXE ?

Hi,

I am experimenting with netbooting my VM and I would like to use iPXE.
The intel 440 VM has ipxe pre-installed by the Q35 has some other PXE client as the boot rom.

I would like to put my own updated ipxe firmware in both of these VM.

How do I do that ?

Very flaky network with Intel X710

tl;dr: I'm experiencing a very flaky network connection on a Dell PowerEdge R630 with the Intel X710/i350 network daughter card. The node itself is dropping offline and coming back online at (apparent) random, and VMs and containers on the node are also very flaky.

Background: I've had a Proxmox cluster running on three nodes of a PowerEdge C6220 II for a while. It's run reasonably well, but for a variety of reasons, I'm wanting to move those nodes to R630s. So ordered one from eBay...

i have made a script to permit PVE users to do snapshots by SSH on VM node only for VM located on on shared storage LVM over iSCSI Storage (Tests on TrueNas).

What do you think of it ?

Usage: ./pve_iscsi_lvm_snapshot.sh <action> <vmid> [<snapshotname>]
action : Action à effectuer (list, create, delete, revert)

AMD Radeon RX6950XT spoofing for macOS VM

Motherboard: Asus Rampage V Extreme (X99), 4101 BIOS
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT (Reference)
Proxmox: 7.4-3, 6.2.9-1 kernel

I am able to passthrough and spoof the GPU on a Windows 10 VM and a Linux Mint 21.1 VM and get signal from the card's displayport but I have not been able to do it on a macOS 13 Ventura VM. The GPU needs to be spoofed to an RX 6900 XT (from 0x73A5 to 0x73BF) which is natively supported by Monterey/Ventura but no matter what I have tried with BIOS, OpenCore (quirks...

how to check virgl is working on linux guest?

I'm trying to get virgl running on a Debian 12 guest, for Jellyfin, but even though I have virgl enabled, and the card shows under /dev/dri, I don't know how to check that it's being properly used. I'm getting weird errors

The error says kernel 4.16 or newer is required. I am, of course, running kernel 6.1.0, and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot.
I have libgl1 and libegl1 installed on PVE. Wasn't able to find any other documentation on what to do in the guest, if anything...

Node HD space

Help a newbie...

I got a fresh Proxmox (latest build) installed on a 1 Tb ssd. But when I look at the summary it shows me that HD Space is 99.86% full because I used 93.80 GiB of 93.93 GiB. I do have a few smallish VM running (Pihole etc).

Did I do something wrong during the install? What can I do to give Proxmox more disk? The SSD is not seriously used and should have ample space.

Hi, folx,

we have some starnge issues with a stand alone Proxmox-server.
- VM 1 is running without problems
- VM 2 is "running", but not reachable via RDP
- Proxmox-WebGui is not reachable, too. When logging in with valid credentials, there is an error "wrong password". The same credentials are valid when logging in via SSH.

The error logs are saying:

"unable to write lrm status file - unable to open file '/etc/pve/nodes/pve/lrm_status.tmp.1774' - Input/output error"

Help with setting bond primary slave

PVE 8.3.2

I created a bond0 interface with 3 NICS (2x1Gpbs, 1x2.5Gbps).
I would like to have the faster NIC (enp6s0) as primary.
When I disconnect its cable, one of the two 1Gbps slaves becomes active. But when I reconnect the cable, the current active slave is never changed back to the 2.5Gbps NIC (enp6s0).
I already put enp6s0 in bond-primay config of the bond0 interface, but it does not work.

What am I doing wrong ?

iSCSI Huawei Oceanstore Dorado 3000 LVM and Multipath

Hi,

I have a strange issue setting up iSCSI connection betwwen PVE 8.3.2 and Huawei Ocenastore dorado 3000 v6 via iSCSI and then configuring multipath. Because of this is a test environment, I create only one LUN.

PVE has 4x10Gb Nics (Intel) and I setup two networks with 2 different VLANs:
  • 192.168.51.50
  • 192.168.52.50
The dorado 3000 has 2 controllers:
  • Controller A: 192.168.51.60
  • Controller B: 192.168.52.60
I can ping from PVE to Dorado (both controller A and B)...

Mail delivery to anything xxxxx.xion.oxcs.net

Since switching to use PMG as my preferred inbound/outbound mail relay I've noticed an issue. Any client email being delivered to any of the servers that are hosted by oxcs.net are being bounced back saying "lost connection with mx001.webcom.xion.oxcs.net[135.148.130.75] while performing the HELO handshake"

Server hostnames in logs are like this...

mx###.webcom.xion.oxcs.net
or
mx###.netsol.xion.oxcs.net
... etc. The start is often mx001, mx002 or mx003 etc. Not sure what the webcom or...
