[ZFS] How much space does Proxmox actually need on its boot pool to function correctly?

Hello,

I'm installing Proxmox on a new production node soon in my home office. The hardware is powerful enough for my needs, but there's only one NVME slot, so the boot NVME will have to be a single-disk ZFS stripe. Not ideal, but sadly my effort of will has not manifested additional PCIe lanes and a second NVME slot on this board.

At the very minimum, I need to install Proxmox on an NVME and have enough room left over for a TrueNAS VM. The TrueNAS VM will be getting real physical...

ProxMox not booting after connecting 2nd GPU

Hi everyone, I am new to ProxMox and have encountered an issue:

-I have successfully set up GPU passthrough with one RTX 3090 that I use for one VM
-I wish to set up a second VM using a spare RX 470.
-As soon as I connect the second GPU my system will not boot and I am not able to connect to it

System specs:
MB: B550 Elite V2
CPU: Ryzen 7 5700x
Ram: 32gb kingston fury
2x 512gb WD NVMe SSD
GPU: Zotac RTX 3090 & XFX RX 470

How to disable quorum mechanism in a cluster ?

Hi,

I have setup 4x of my proxmox servers as a cluster so that I may hopefully move VMs around with ease.

However, when I have only one server powered, the quorum mechanism blocks all operations.

I understand that commercial IT does not have a concept "a server turned off on purpose" so this is an entirely new in computer science.

So I would like to explore the possibility of, a proxmox cluster with no quorum mechanism ?

Or what is the proper way, if any, to do that ?

We are currently running Proxmox 8.3.1 with multiple kubernetes clusters on top, accessing ceph using the ceph-csi plugin. The VMs running on Proxmox have access to the ceph public network. How does proxmox handle HA if there is not enough ram to restart all VMs on another node?

Just curious, say you lose one or more nodes, and there is not enough ram to run all the VMs on the nodes that are left, or perhaps there's only 1 node left and it's one that has less ram installed, how does proxmox handle this, and how does it prioritize which VM to run, is there a way to influence which ones are more important?

Hallo Leute,

ich verzweifele hier bald.

Wir nutzen ca. 20 Server bei Hetzner. Diese sind alle mit dem V-Switch 4000 verbunden mittels Linux VLAN und Bridge welche den "ens23.4000" als Adapter nutzt.
Dazu gibts dann den vmbr0 der auf den Linux VLAN Adapter zugreigt.
Dahinter sind dann div. Firewalls die mittels vmbr0 nach außen mit einer Public IP (im V Switch gebucht) kommunizieren.
Das klappt auch alles.

Jetzt kommt erstmal die Frage der Fragen...der V-Switch benötigt ja 1400 als...

Backup ohne mount point erstellen?

Hallo zusammen,

ich war dabei meine Container über die Backupfunktion von PVE zu sichern, als mir auffiel,
dass mir die komplette Backup Festplatte vollgeschrieben wurde.

Ich erkannte daraufhin, das gewisse Container mit einem gesetzten Mount Point zu meinem Data Mirror versehen sind.
Dieser hat eine größe von 4 TB und ist somit, um ein vielfaches größer als die Backup HDD.

Daraufhin fand ich den Mount Point Einstellungen eine Box mit Backup, diese deaktivierte ich.

Grub Menu not working over serial console

Grub over serial0

My console is of type Serial, which is great. But when I try to access the grub menu, it's just frozen, and I can't do anything else than booting the default.
Is it possible to select another Grub entry than the default when Display is set to Serial terminal 0 (serial0) ?

I’m facing a strange and frustrating issue with my Proxmox setup and could really use some help. Here’s the situation:

• Randomly, Proxmox becomes unreachable via web GUI or SSH, but all the guests are still running and reachable without any issues.

ich habe nun meine ersten Gehversuche auf Proxmox hinter mir und bin erstmal sehr zufrieden, einfach auch, weil es funktioniert.

Aktuell laufen bei mir auf meienr Synology einige Docker-Container. Diese Dienste möchte ich sukzessive nach Proxmox umziehen.
Ich habe nun einen LXC Container aufgesetzt und darauf dann Docker installiert mit den ersten Containern (Adguard, NGINX, Portainer, Watchtower).

PBS datastore only showing 228gb out of a 1 TiB nfs truenas share?

Hello, I just setup PBS and am attempting to setup a nfs mount to my TrueNAS server for the PBS backups. I created a new dataset and set a quota of 1 TiB within TrueNas. I disabled de-duplication, compression, and made sure checksum was enabled in TrueNAS for the NFS share as I've read somewhere that is recommended to do so.

For some reason only 228gb shows up within PBS in the datastore when mounted.

I believe my house lost power and server shut down but it didnt come back up due to a hardware thing where I and required to hit f1 to continue the boot when it booted up none of my vms started.

I had it list the vms and I started the one important one 1032 but it didnt start because it was locked. I unlocked it and tried starting it again it failed to find the disk when i went to the mount point where that disk was all the disks for that vm were gone! and the disk is essentially empty the...

Proxmox with Second Hand Enterprise SSDs

I had many problems related to VERY HIGH iowait on my Proxmox VE Systems using Crucial MX500, which is a Consumer SSD (and one with very little DRAM, so once that fills up, Performance drops like a Rock).

Now I got 2 x Intel DC S3610 1.6 TB SSDs which should be very good for VM Storage or also more intensive stuff, since I got Reccomendation from many Sources that - even second Hand - Enterprise SSDs have WAY better Performance.

According to the Datasheet, these should be rated at 10.7 PB...

So I used to have Proxmox 6.4 installed on a server, and I think I might have set it up wrong so I tried to reinstall Proxmox. When I tried to install it again I keep getting an error, however it's not the same exact error every time. I get through the install wizard to set up Proxmox and it starts to install. It gets to about 50%-70% when it starts to install packages. Then at a random % it will say that it failed to install a package. I've gotten all different types of packages every...

USB-modem to interface in VE passthrough

I have connected Teltonika TRM500 usb-modem to Proxmox, configured and mapped to interface wwan0, it gets a public ip from DHCP (no static ip available). I get connectivity to Internet from VE CLI.

What I want to achieve is to passthrough wwan0 connection to a VM running Opnsense. So I have created a Linux Bridge with Bridgeport wwan0 but it fails to get ip from DHCP. I don't understand why, can anyone give me some advice?


Reason why I don´t just passthrough USB directly to VM? Some kind...

I recently migrated a Windows Server 2016 from VMWare to Proxmox VE 8.2.7 using the import tool. I know, another hardware configuration post...I'm sorry, kinda :) I'm aware that it would be difficult to say x hardware will be the best for you, but I am having issues making a decision on which direction to go.

seit längerem habe ich nach einer Möglichkeit gesucht den Proxmox Host (PVE) zu sichern. Dann ist mir eingefallen, dass sich der Proxmox Backup Server dazu eignet.
