Proxmox VE now provides an integrated VM import wizard re-using the storage plugin system for native integration into the API and web-based user interface. You can use this to import VMware ESXi VMs as a whole, with most of its config mapped to Proxmox VE’s config model and reduced downtime.

Backups synced on Remotes not shown in PVE

Hi all,
I have a cluster with several PVE 8.x nodes and two PBS 3.x nodes, and somehow backups made on PBS1 and synced to PBS2 are not shown in the PVE node (although they're visible in PBS2 web UI and the disk usage is shown correctly in PVE summary).

I've read Backups showing in PBS but not showing in PVE, but still can't find a solution:
  • I'm making my backups on PBS1/datastore01 with my PVE admin user, I can restore/delete/etc them. PBS1 is added in Datacenter/Storage using...

Proxmox with OPNsense Passthrough

Hello all,

I've bought the box below (MGNAS 12 ; with i7 1355u; 32Go; 10G SFP+).

The goal is :
- Install Proxmox on the device
- Install OPNsense on Proxmox
- Configure the 2 x SFP+ in Passthough to OPNsense (for WAN & LAN access)
- WAN : Public IP
- LAN : 192.168.1.x /24

I want also to have the Proxmox MGMT on Port 1 (RJ45).

Windows 11 Common KVM processor Not Supported

My Windows 11 22H2 host is running on an HP Proliant DL360 Gen10 with Intel Xeon Bronze 3104 CPU, which is supported on Windows 11. On promox 8.3.2 I defined VM with pc-q35-7.1 machine and host processor, also I have tried with kvm64, qemu64, x86-64-v4 processors. But until now I can't make windows 11 upgrade to 23H2 because it says "Common KVM processor is not compatible". Can you help me with this?

I have been working in IT for many years (18), but I encountered Proxmox for the first time recently, at a new job. Everything seems clear there, but there is one problem. (It is in the title of the topic).

I tried to solve it myself, I spent a week studying everything that is on the Internet, googled dozens of articles, found something similar, but I apparently lack a little detail in my knowledge.

Hello, I'm using Proxmox Pve version 8
I backed up my data on the Proxmox backup server in the office

Now I want to backup my data on a cloud server that I installed Proxmox Backup Server on

what's the ideal?

I backed up twice to two proxmox backup servers???

or I backup to 1 proxmox backup server
then from Proxmox backup server backup to Proxmox backup server in the cloud??

what's the ideal mechanism?

Migrating VM's from old node to new node keeps failing

This is my first virtualization environment and started with a single node that I unfortunately configured with LVM rather than ZFS. I have since added two more ZFS configured nodes. I have some downtime and was wanting to migrate the single ubuntu VM I have that is running a few docker containers to my newest node, however, every time I try I get errors. This is the current set of errors I am getting. Can anyone provide me some guidance please?

I tried the button 'shutdown' in admin web ui and ssh shell command 'shutdown -t 0' and 'reboot', all do not work. they just shutdown all vm and lxc but not shut down proxmox server.

how to shutdown proxmox?

Proxmox with Second Hand Enterprise SSDs

I had many problems related to VERY HIGH iowait on my Proxmox VE Systems using Crucial MX500, which is a Consumer SSD (and one with very little DRAM, so once that fills up, Performance drops like a Rock).

Now I got 2 x Intel DC S3610 1.6 TB SSDs which should be very good for VM Storage or also more intensive stuff, since I got Reccomendation from many Sources that - even second Hand - Enterprise SSDs have WAY better Performance.

According to the Datasheet, these should be rated at 10.7 PB...

ceph treatment of failed/failing osds

This may not be a question for PVE forums but no harm in asking :)

My experience with ceph treatment of OSDs is that the subsystem does not fail OSDs unless they are completely dropped on the bus. Failing disks (eg with read failures, even with trapped sense key errors) do NOT get dropped, and the OSD remains up and In- even if it bounces up and down slowing down all transactions. If I manually out a failing OSD, it eventually leads to slow ops but the OSD STILL does not get failed out and...

Hallo zusammen,

ich könnte einen alten HP Proliant ML350p mit 2 Prozessoren E5-2470 und 64 GB Ram bekommen.
Der E-2470 hat 8 Kerne. Darauf würde ich gerne so ca. 15 Windows 11 VMs laufen lassen und einen Ubuntu Server der als und Fileserver funktionieren soll.
Würde es reichen, wenn ich da mehr Ram rein packe oder ist die Plattform generell nicht mehr brauchbar?

Als Platten sind im Moment glaube ich 15k SAS Platten drin, die aber recht klein sind.

OK to use DHCP address for PBS?

I have my VE server running a few months now and really like it. Setting up a PBS server over the holiday break, so it's "new to me".

Is it OK if I setup the PBS with a DHCP address as long as the name is resolved consistently on my LAN?

If so, is there an easy way to do this during installation or initial configuration?

Howto configure disks for backup and snapshot

I have 3 disks

The first SSD 500 Gb, Proxmox VE is installed here

/dev/sda
/dev/sda1 BIOS boot
/dev/sda2 EFI
/dev/sda3 LVM

A HDD disk for backup 2TB
/dev/sdb

A second SSD 500gb that I vould like to use for snapshots
/dev/sdc

sdb and sdc don't have partitions and don't are formatted now

If i require backup and have to select storage, i see only as local sda.

Howto permit to backup all on sdb?
Howto force to use sdc for snapshot?
Is it possible to do that from Web...

Hi guys,
I need some advice.
I installed proxmox on debian 12, following these instructions https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Install_Proxmox_VE_on_Debian_12_Bookworm because I need an encrypted device.
After apt install proxmox-ve postfix open-iscsi chrony I can access the webgui and do everything, so I guess everything is working fine.
The problem starts when I reboot the system. I get the prompt to enter my luks password and the message that it was successful.

Das klappt richtig gut..

Guten Abend,
Ich habe gerade mein case gewechselt und proxmox hoch gefahren alles klappt bis auf die NVME die mein LVM mit allen disks enthält.
Probiert habe ich:
1. stromlos machen und 10 sec. Power taste halten (hat vorher mal geklappt als die ssd nicht erkannt wurde)
2. ssd entfernen und in windows testen (Datenträger Manager anzeigen lassen) ganz normal erkannt keine Partitionen vorhanden
3. dmseg und lspci abfragen... nix spanendes gefunden

Issues Replacing Failed Drive

Good Afternoon,

I had a drive in my zpool fail. The zpool already read the status of the disk as REMOVED.
I replaced the failed disk with a new one and attempted to replace the failed drive with zpool replace -f <pool> <old-device> <new-device>
This was giving me an error though saying there was no such device in the pool. I was trying to replace dev/sdd with dev/dsk
So I attemted to replace dev/sdd with the actually hdd name "ata-MZ7LM960HMJP0D3_S37KNX0KA09710" and now nothing looks...
