Spice Connections unresponsive to input after a few minutes idle

I'm using virt-viewer to access VM's on proxmox via spice from Windows 11. It works great for about 2 minutes, but as soon as it is left idle for a few minutes the vm becomes completely unresponsive to input via spice - however the output still appears to be getting refreshed. The vm is otherwise functioning normally and the gui works fine via the proxmox web interface console. I've looked at the output of running virt-viewer using:

Hello Everyone!

I've been trying Proxmox recently on a server and I'm having a rather unusual problem with the web management interface.

I created a 'Linux Bridge' to have an internal switch (similar to what i'm used to in Hyper-V) and I want to assign a local ipv4 and ipv6 to that interface that will be routed through a complex internal vpn network that has dual-stack internal ips.

Hi all,

With recent VMWare changes we are looking if Proxmox may be a suitable replacement for our deployments. Having browsed the product pages, and support forums here, a few questions remain. Hoping that the experienced crew can chime in :)

Upgraded one node from 7.4 to 8 and Ceph broke for whole cluster

Hi All,

I am not an experienced Linux engineer but this has become my problem to try and fix.
I upgraded one node on a 3 node cluster from 7.4.17 to 8 following this guide:
Upgrade from 7 to 8 - Proxmox VE

The upgrade was only done on one node. I followed all steps in the guide carefully. After rebooting the one node that was upgraded the whole site became unresponsive.
Ceph is not working even though I have 2 nodes up.

Split VM backup to multiple datastores for different disks

Hello,

I'm cureently in need of a very particular backup configuration. I need to backup different disks of the same VM to different backup targets.

Is there a way to either:

- modify the target datastore for a specific disk
- exclude a disk from a specific backup job only
- modify the target namespace of a specific disk

Any of these options would solve my current problem.

Alternatively, a way to exclude certain disks from the tape backup job in pbs would also get me most of the way...

How to add several DNS domains in cloud-init Proxmox WEB GUI

Hello,

I need to add several entries to the guest VM "DNS domain" using Proxmox. As result the guest VM hostname changes to the combined DNS domains name:

The "DNS domain" field supposed to have only one "."-separated entry. Please advice how I can add several DNS domains in Proxmox WEB GUI.

Very high memory usage on VM

Hi, just installed NixOS in a VM with GPU passthrough. Everything seems to be working fine, but the RAM usage being reported from the Proxmox dashboard seems very high. Specially compared to what the VM is reporting...

Hi,

I want to migrate an Hyper-v VM to Proxmox 8.1
I have configured the disks in ZFS.
- 1 volume to boot and Proxmox (500 Go - ZFS)
- 1 volume for the VMs (7 To - ZFS)

The VHD file has a size of 620 Go.

To migrate, I use the following command :
qm importdisk 100 /root/vhd-file.vhd vm-zfs

The command is executed correctely but at the end, I have the following error :

Doesn't free RAM after run backup

Hello,

I have a problem with a host proxmox 8.0.3
  • RAM usage is 96% (60,01 GiB of 62.58 GiB)
  • 4 Total VMs KVM = 46 GB assigned

I try to stop all VMs and restart host to free RAM. But after run a backup and it finish, problem persist again.
I use external Proxmox backup server.

Unable to remove unused vm disk on LVM

Hi, today I tried to remove unused and not configured disk but failed with:
update VM 100: -delete unused0
TASK ERROR: lvremove 'pve/vm-100-disk-0' error: Logical volume pve/vm-100-disk-0 is used by another device.

I also tried to shutdown the vm (even if don't use it) but gave same error.
I also checked the only other vm on this test proxmox server and don't show it.

Change IP-Adress of Storage

Hello,

we needed to change the IP-Address of our storage-system. I already found out that I have to change the address in the /etc/pve/storage.cfg. But the file is read only and apparently i have no permissions to change the file even though im logged in as root. I also cant remove the iscsi target and lun and lvm via the gui cause the files are blocked and i dont know which services to stop. Please help, thanks in advance.

Ich will einen 2 Node Cluster von Xen mit DRBD auf Proxmox umstellen. Nun stellt sich die Frage, ob ich ZFS mit Replikation und eventuellen Datenverlust der letzten Minuten einsetzen soll oder Glusterfs als echtes shared Storage.
Es gibt auf dem System eine VM mit 500GB und 8 VMs mit 10 bis 100GB Größe.

I do not understand why I need two drbd partitions, both are Primary/Primary ?

I installed Proxmox's latest version 8.1.4 and when I try to create a VM it tells unable to create VM 100 - no such logical volume pve/data in Promox. How do I fix this so that I can build a VM? Can I add a manually created RBD image

I have a separately managed Ceph cluster with an RBD pool pve-vmdata that I use for VM disks. If I create on the Ceph cluster an image, with e.g. rbd create --size 1024 pve-vmdata/myimg, is it possible to add the image to a VM? Can I somehow scan for/detect the new image?

LXC using NFS crashing if NFS server goes offline

I'm running OpenMediaVault in a VM, something is going wrong with it that I need to figure out, but it occasionally crashes and needs rebooting.

On the same host I'm running an LXC container (running plex) which uses fuse and NFS to mount a drive from the openmediavault server.

The issue I have is if OpenMediaVault does down, the LXC container totally dies - I've tried using pct to stop the container but it just won't. It also results in all of the containers on the server having gray...

I installed Proxmox 7.x through the ISO on a Hetzner test server on ZFS with 4 HDDs. When upgrading to Proxmox 8, I encountered the documentation on switching to proxmox-boot-tool again (https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/ZFS:_Switch_Legacy-Boot_to_Proxmox_Boot_Tool) but I'm not sure if I'm understanding it correctly or if I need it.

Unable to clone VM template after updating disk image

I am trying to automate up to date cloud images for Ubuntu and Debian VM templates.

Once a template has been cloned using linked clones, it is not possible to delete the template, so I just change the disk to be used in new clones, while the existing clones can still link to previous disk image.

I can create a template ok, and I can create linked clone ok.
