Upgrade DRBD to version 8.4.3 or superior on Proxmox VE 3.4 (DRBD 8.3.13)

$

Hi!
I have 2 Proxmox VE 3.4 nodes with ZFS local storage mirrored through DRBD (Primary/Primary with 2 volumes) to guarantee complete redundancy. The nodes are linked with a dedicated 10Gbps on SFP+ and DRBD version is 8.3.13 (the version coming with Proxmox VE 3.4). Since I'm experiencing writes bottlenecks, I'd like to upgrade to DRBD 8.4.3 or superior, which should be much faster according to public benchmarks (https://blogs.linbit.com/p/469/843-r...writes-faster/).
Is there a safe procedure to upgrade while maintaining all data and configurations intact?
Thank you very much!

Dead network. Green LED off. Proxmox 3.4

Hi everyone, I have installed proxmox 3.4 but now im trying to access via web to proxmox and nothing. First i thought was the ip configuration, but after break my head in two parts saw the on board network card off. I mean the green led that usually is blinking now is dead. After type "lscpi" got: Ethernet controller Qualcomm Atheros...so proxmox recognizes the network card but somehow it is down. Previosuly I had Windows Server 2003 without network problems, checked with another switch and the same. Any suggestion is welcome, please need help! Thanks in advance. :) :)

By CLI, restore quickly a backup when i have different disks in destination

$

Hi to all

Since some time ago I want to do these questions:

My scenery:
For better performance, i have VMs with virtual disks in different RAID volumes.

The actual problem:
With the current capacity of the PVE-GUI for do restaurations, if i have VMs with virtual disks in several hard disks or in different RAID volumes, i can not do quickly a restore of a VM taking advantage of these disks or RAID volumes. .... :-(

What i ask:
A- Is possible to use "vzdump" by CLI for restore each virtual disk where i want to restore it directly? ie, without to have that restore all the virtual disks in a single hard disk for after to do a copy where finally they should be located, and if is possible, with other format of image?

B- Also restore the setup of the VM? (Note: i know that maybe i need to touch the configuration file of the VM to end successfully the restoration process).

B- If the answers of the questions "A" and/or "B" are positive, how i do it?.

C- If the answers of the questions "A" and/or "B" are negative, will be possible do it of other mode quickly?.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me with these doubts.

Best regards
Cesar

Re-edit: Unfortunately, I did these questions long time ago, and no one has answered....

How to emulate PS2 Keyboard drivers to KVM guest

Hi,
I have Old Windows Server. I have migrated to that to Proxmox KVM Guest using CDP backup.

However due to USB driver not installed I am not able to press "Ctrl+Alt+Del" on Proxmox Console.

So how can I add PS2 port or driver to Proxmox Guest VM.

Mouse is working, may be because it is detecting as PS2.

# info mice
Mouse #2: QEMU PS/2 Mouse
* Mouse #3: QEMU HID Tablet (absolute)

Is there any way to make PS2 keyboard?

Is it possible to migrate a VM from Proxmox 1.9 to Proxmox VE 4.0 beta1 ?

I still have a ProxMox 1.9 lingering around... I know... finally got time to 'move' it.

All clients need rebuilding (already done), except 1.
There is this one image that if possible could go straith from 1.9 to 4.0 beta 1...
Attempts to do a vzdump/qmrestore do not really work :-(

Thanks for the help

Web interface reformatting cluster.conf

Hi,

I tried to set up a HA Cluster, but the web interface is breaking my cluster.conf every time I try to add a HA managed VM.

I set up fencing for Dell iDrac as described here:
http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Fencing

That works so far but if I try to add a VM it wants to change the > to >

I would have opened a bug in bugzilla but didn't find the right category.

Can't access Debian CT and few other issues!

$

First off, Hi all!

Secondly, i'm struggling to access my Debian 8 CT i've got running, I don't really want to have to remove / reinstall it due to having done a fair bit of work on it already. So, the problem started after I reset the proxmox box. All booted fine, and showed the "Connected to tty 1, type blah blah" then stopped. Didn't show anything after that. Odd. So I rebooted Proxmox again, and it showed the <vm name> login: Success! Not sure what happened before. Tried to connect to root (I've left the root user on the box for the moment whilst i'm working on it) and I get "Login incorrect", doesn't even let me type a password. That's essentially where i'm at.

Using Proxmox 4.0Beta-26/5d4a615b

Thirdly - Is there a way to dictate what type of VM I'm creating before I create it? I've only just found out that i'm using KVM (by the qm command) and well.. QM doesn't seem as versatile as OpenVZ, in the essence of, i'm not able to access the container.

Fooourth - Can you add / remove container users under the permissions tab on Proxmox? Or is this for something entirely different?

And finally, fifth, i've got my box setup with a "poor mans ve" Essentially running it all under a single IP, running on a NAT. I've forwarded the ports under the interfaces document:

Code:

        post-up iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i vmbr0 -p tcp --dport 1022 -j DNAT --to 192.168.0.1:22
        post-down iptables -t nat -D PREROUTING -i vmbr0 -p tcp --dport 1022 -j DNAT --to 192.168.0.1:22

And can access it via PuTTY, however when I go to login using root, it just tells me that the password is incorrect? (yes, unlike above, i'm able to type the password in that way!)

Looking forward to your reply!

-Keanu

How can I resize my disk (Proxmox 3.3-5, using DRBD and LVM and Ubuntu as VM)

$

Hi,

I am trying to resize a disk of one of my virtual machines but I am stuck and the articles I've read so far don't seem to work for my particular setup.

My setup is as follows.

  • Two servers and each server has two disks
  • The servers are in a Promox cluster
  • The second disk of each server are linked with each other using DRBD
  • The DRBD block device is used as a PV for LVM
  • There is one VG which is added in Proxmox as storage for virtual machines

I have shut down the virtual machine and increased the disk size using the "Resize disk" feature in Proxmox, I increased the disk from 20GB to 40GB.

Screenshot of my disks. As you can see the size of vm-100-disk-1 is now increased from 20GB to 40GB.

disks.png

After this I started the virtual machine again. When I login to the virtual machine and type "df -h" I see no changes. Here is the output:

Code:

$ df -h
Filesystem      Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda7        16G  9.4G  5.4G  64% /
none            4.0K    0  4.0K  0% /sys/fs/cgroup
udev            2.0G  4.0K  2.0G  1% /dev
tmpfs          396M  376K  395M  1% /run
none            5.0M    0  5.0M  0% /run/lock
none            2.0G    0  2.0G  0% /run/shm
none            100M    0  100M  0% /run/user
/dev/sda6      1.9G  3.0M  1.7G  1% /tmp
/dev/sda1      464M  38M  398M  9% /boot

On the Proxmox server where this particular VM is running on I see that the LV has changed in size.

Code:

$ lvdisplay
 --- Logical volume ---
  LV Path                /dev/vg0/vm-100-disk-1
  LV Name                vm-100-disk-1
  VG Name                vg0
  LV UUID                6sJdZu-qwqj-dmMd-Imak-NGk8-V0z8-DR2u9J
  LV Write Access        read/write
  LV Creation host, time pve3, 2014-09-04 18:49:22 +0200
  LV Status              available
  # open                1
  LV Size                40.00 GiB
  Current LE            10240
  Segments              2
  Allocation            inherit
  Read ahead sectors    auto
  - currently set to    256
  Block device          253:3

The virtual machine itself doesn't use LVM for partitioning just normal regular partitions.

My question is how can I add the additional space to the /dev/sd7 device in the virtual machine.

Any help is greatly appreciated. If you need any more information please let me know.

Kind regards,

Mannekino

Proxmox ceph cluster - high system cpu usage

$

Hello,

We have recently built a 4 node Proxmox/Ceph cluster and we're having performance issues with it. We have noticed that every ~5s, the system cpu usage goes up and the processes involved seem to be migration/x. We have tried increasing kernel.sched_migration_cost from 500000 to 5000000 but it doesn't make much difference. Any ideas what could be causing this ?

Cluster info (4 servers):

Proxmox 3.4
Kernel 2.6.32-39-pve (2.6.32-156)
Dual E5-2640 v3 (8 physical cores each CPU + HT)
40 Gb Infiniband
128 GB RAM
PERC H730/830 disk controllers
SAS 4TB 7.2k drives
~15 OSDs per server (total 65)
In addition to the Ceph OSDs / monitor, each server runs a 4 cpu, 8 GB ram VM acting as file server.

Thanks,
Martin

turnkeylinux.org connection, why?

Hi,

I have a Proxmox environment with strict policy rules. The machines allow to reach only a few things, such as specific repositories, the necessary activation site (shop.maurer), proxmox repo (enterprise.proxmox.com). It's works fine, but I got that kind of mails:

Subject: Cron <root@hostname> test -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd / && run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily )

/etc/cron.daily/pve:
command 'apt-get update' failed: exit code 100

The machines want to connect to the http://releases.turnkeylinux.org/pve/aplinfo.dat.asc . What is this site? Is this necessary to reach it? if its not necessary, can i disable it somehow?

Thanks,
gab

[BUG]Remove a disk, than (full) clone : unused disk is also referenced by the clone.

Hi all,

A bug easy to reproduce :
- create a VM,
- add a second disk (tried with IDE and VirtIO).
- remove second disk : it becomes listed as "unused"
- full clone this VM : the unused disk is also referenced by the clone, same name.
- remove unused disk on the first VM : OK
- try to remove unused disk on the cloned VM : bad luck! No error message, but the only way I found to delete it was to edit config file...

Should I use OpenVZ templates for my VMs?

$

ok, like the subj. says should I use the openVZ templates for my VMs/
I have seen roomers that proxmox will drop the support for openvz containers in favor of lxc.
however in the template list there is only a handful of lxc templates available and lots of openvz.

I want to load owncloud VM and a couple of others at the moment.
but not sure if I should use the openvz template or just build out a VM from scratch.

can someone advise please.
