Where to run bind9 host or virtual machine?

I am migrating from an old Debian xen hypervisor to proxmox. In my old system I ran bind9 on the xen Dom0 to act as DNS server for my local domain.

Should I run bind9 on the proxmox host? Or should I set up a virtual machine to act as the DNS server? I generally assume that the host should not be customized if it can be avoided.

Proxmox Terraform VM Clone Doesn't Apply Cloud-Init Configurations Properly

I'm using Terraform to deploy VMs on Proxmox by cloning a template. The deployment works in the sense that the VM gets created and starts successfully. However, the VM doesn't apply the Cloud-Init configurations I provided, including:
  • The VM doesn't use the specified name.
  • The Cloud-Init user and password settings are ignored.
When I manually clone the same template through the Proxmox UI and use Cloud-Init, everything works as expected: the name, user, and password are...

PVE Datastores mit verschiedenen knotenabhängigen ZFS-Zielen

Man kann für jeden Datastore festlegen, dass er nur auf bestimmten Knoten vorhanden ist.
Ich habe aber das Problem, dass ich den Datastore zwar überall haben will, aber für jeden Knoten einen anderes ZFS-Dateisystem als Ziel brauche.
Wie kann das eingerichtet werden?

sda has a holder...

So what? I do not care that it has a holder. Kill the holder and wipe the disk as asked! What is the reason for all these workarounds we constantly have to do to administrate these systems?

The disk was previously in a CEPH installation, it is no more, I need it for something else! I can't fathom the logic behind blocking wiping disks because of "holder" This is not Windows... this is linux!

To fix this stuff I once again have to come up with workaround...

Proxmox search by IP address

Hi,

Not sure if the post is correctly placed here, if not, please move it to where it belongs, because I`m new to this forum.
Now moving on to the topic, I would love to see a search function in UI, besides the naming, ID search, to identify the VM, to look for a VM, based on IP address.

Is this function on the roadmap, because on 8.0.3 is not present, and I know it has been discussed in the past.

Why is Nmap Installed by Default in Proxmox?

Guys, while discussing with some colleagues in a Proxmox group, we noticed that an Extended Detection and Response (XDR) security tool detected nmap installed on the system. Upon further investigation, I found that this package has been included by default since at least version 6.

Does anyone know the reason why nmap is pre-installed in Proxmox? Is it used for any specific internal functionality, or is it just a leftover dependency?

Moin,

augenscheinlich kein neues Problem, aber ich bin auch mit Zuhilfenahme alter Posts zu beschränkt, das Problem zu fixen

Kurze Ist-Beschreibung:
- Firmware auf Stand 8.3.2
- PVE Cluster mit CEPH
- Backupmethode Snapshot auf PBS
- Guesttools inkl. Treiber (0.1.266) in Windows VM installiert
- Falls relevant: Alle Systeme beinhalten einen Supportplan Basic bis Standard.

Das Problem wie in den Bildern unten kenne ich schon länger, da wurden dann Berechtigungen als Schuldige erkannt, aber...

Removing ZFS SLOG device during backup to PBS makes a stack trace

So I forgot that rebooting the PVE makes backups run longer. Was wondering why SLOG was not doing anything and tried to remove it during the backup.

It took a while but eventually the remove went through AND nothing crashed but it yielded this in the log and on the console (removed SILENT from grub defaults)

Proxmox Version: 8.3.3
VMware ESXi Version: VMware ESXi, 8.0.3, 24414501

Ich habe versucht einen ESXi Host als Storage bei Proxmox laut Anleitung hinzuzufügen.
Ich bekomme sofort folgenden Fehler:

Hardware friert alle paar Stunden ein

Hallo,
ich bin neu hier im Forum. Bin gestern mit meiner Hardware von einer reine Homeassistant Installation auf Proxmox umgesattelt.
Habe jetzt drauf eine VM für HA und einen LXC für pi-hole laufen. Auf pi-hole läuft der DNS und Adblocker aber nich sehr stark.
Habe aber das Problem dass alle paar Stunden so ca. 6Stunden, kann man fast schon die Uhr danach stellen friert mir Proxmox ein (keine der 3 IP adressen sind mehr erreichbar, dann hilf nur noch entweder Netzstecker ziehen oder mehrere...

I'm new to proxmox, and new to enterprise hypervisors in general. Running 8.3.2

I'm hoping this is a very basic question, and I've just somehow missed the answer in the documentation.

We have dedicated SAN units that share out storage. I can see, and use the assigned LUN from the SAN in proxmox. I can see and use that storage as is, from both the individual node, and the datacenter storage tabs.

The part I am missing, is being able to further manage/carve up that LUN so that I can make...

Strange Nat Errors

Hello everyone,

I've been struggling for hours with a strange problem that I don't understand.

I'll try to explain:

I have a VPS server on the Internet with a public IP 178.xxx.xxx.xxx/22.
Proxmox is installed on this server, and it should only be accessible via a VPN connection.
An opnsens is responsible for the vpn connection.

On Proxmox, there is an LXC container running that provides a VPN connection using Wireguard.

I have a customer with a recently upgraded Nutanix cluster. Their old cluster, an NTX-3060-G6, still has plenty of life in it.
I'm considering recommending a Proxmox installation to extend the life and add some capacity to their server stack.
Asking for any experiences to share in adapting Nutanix cluster hardware to Proxmox VE.

Kein Login nach Anlage neuer User - Hilfe

Hallo,

ich habe heute einen neuen User für den ioBroker-Adapter erstellt. Am bestehenden root-User habe ich nichts geändert. Ich kann mich nun weder mit dem neuen User noch mit dem root-User einloggen.

Ich kann mich nun weder auf die GUI noch via WinSCP einloggen. Das ganze natürlich von verschiedenen Rechnern aus probiert. Den Rechner/ Host habe ich schon ausgeschaltet udn neu gestartet.

Die Passwörter sind im Passwort-Manager hinterlegt. Als vertippen ist ausgeschlossen. Auch ein...

Hello, I've got a bit of an issue. I'm running Proxmox 8.3 on a MinisForum NAB9.
Power went out the other day but I didn't notice any issues when it came back and turned the machine back on.
That was unitl I tried to make a backup of one of my VMs (VM 100 - it's a Windows 10 LTSC machine) and it keeps giving me the error in the title.
On my setup, backups are supposed to be stored on local-lvm, but I also have a NAS where I could store them. Tried both options but it doesn't seem to make...

Ceph fails after power loss: SLOW_OPS, OSDs flip between down and up

Dear all,

after a short power loss, my cluster of three nodes is not coming up again.
System facts: Proxmox 8.3.3, Ceph Reef 18.2.4, each node 3 SSDs (4TB SATA, 2TB NVME, 1TB SATA with a OSD partition) with 3 OSD, so a total of 9 OSDs.
The system tries to activate the OSDs, then decides that ALL OSDs of a node are too bad and calls them down.
I've tried to disable down-ing of the OSDs, but the system does not show any signs of recovery.

background: I am working towards migrating approx 12 clients from ESXi (the straight-up free version) to proxmox. I have been using ESXi, and ghettoVCB, to read and write to NFS, hosted on ZFS provided by FreeBSD, for close to 20 years (along with all the other stuff you can do with zfs).
