5Node x 10OSD CEPH Cluster. SATA/SAS Speeds.

Configuration is a 5 node cluster with each host running the same configuration:

PowerEdge R730
384GB RAM
2xIntel Xeon E5-2697 v3 @ 2.60GHz
H730 Perc (in HBA Mode)
2x Sandisk LB1606R 1.6TB SSDs (OS)

2x Sandisk LB1606R 1.6TB SSDs (CEPH) (2 OSDs / node)

Basically, the only oddball out in the configuration is that the first node, instead of having LB1606Rs for CEPH, they are WD Enterprise SATA SSDs. What I'm trying to figure out why the...

Proxmox shutdown last night, again.

I have Proxmox running on an Intel NUC with just one VM for Home Assistant and last night it shut down. It's done this a couple of times before for, what appears to be, no reason. It's been several weeks since the last time and I've never been able to determine the cause. The NUC's power seems to be on but Proxmox has shut down. I have to turn the NUC off and on to get Proxmox going again. Here's the Syslog from the time of shutdown. Can anything be determined from this?

Any hints greatly...

I created a new VM on a proxmox server, I was trying to get the guest agent running.
As part of the process I tried to shutdown the VM and restart it but the process takes forever and I end up forcefully shutting the VM

I see following error messages

Hello all,

strange problem this morning after upgrading form 6.5.13-5 to 6.8.4-3.

Impossible to have intel HD passthrough in lxc containers. After seeking i found that there's no more /dev/dri and especially no /dev/dri/renderD128 i usually map in the LXCs.

reverting back to 6.5.13-5 and everything works fine and /dev/dri appears and intel_gpu_top works

On 6.5.13-5 :

Bash:

Add hooks to sync job possible?

$

Hey,

ive got a PVE server with PBS VM on site that is the default Backup target. On another site i have a PBS configured as remote that pulls the nightly backup via the sync from remote function. I do this with a VPN connection site to site. This connection however is currently running 24/7 and thats about 23,5 hours a day more than it would need to. Is there a way to add hooks to the sync function to have it establish and close the VPN connection as a pre- and post-hook? Or would there...

When a PBS storage is created on a CIFS mount it will be impossible to delete backups or prune. PBS is installed on a separate host from PVE, the versions in use are:

move storage

$

Good Day,

you have 10 Nodes. 4 nodes compute and 6 nodes ceph only
you have 1 NFS for the 4 nodes compute only.

When proxmox perform move storage, from ceph to NFS of a VM via the Hardware -> Disk Action -> Move Storage, would it be faster if the ceph node has access to the NFS mount also?

Anyone has any traffic flow on how Move Storage is being performed?

Thanks!

@Proxmox team, alleged kernel optimization could slash power draw by 30%

SDN / EVPN - can we use VRF's to keep EVPN/BGP away from Hypervisor Mangement Routing?

Hello,

I'm currently labbing up proxmox to see if we can replace our VMWare/NSX-T deployments with it. The initial test looked really promising. Then I went to do a closer-to-production deployment, with separated management and routing networks, and it's all fallen apart. Here's the basic networking overview for what I'm trying to do.

With the cluster formed, and management configured, it was working great. Setup EVPN, BGP controllers, and it just wasn't working.. SSH'd...

OVA Import Issues

I have an OVA that imports just fine into vSphere and runs, but when I upload it Proxmox then do the import, it only seems to want to grab one of the 3 disks, and only the 3rd disk. I can't quite figure out what's going on with that. Any thoughts?

Private VLANS (PVLAN) within Proxmox

$

Trying to wrap my head around how to implement a PVLAN within Proxmox. The purpose would be microsegmentation, so that each VM could not talk to each other without going through the upstream L3 device that has the Promiscuous Port configuration defined. Short of creating a VLAN per VM, is there a way to do this?
For reference and clear confusion, this is what I'm refering to, https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/private-vlan/, or some may call it "Port Isolation".

Hello Team,

Recently, I have gotten following kernel errors from some guest OS (RHEL9). The storage RAID is RAIDz2 (RAID6). Also, there are 2 Windows guest OS and performance is not good. For instance, it will take a couple of minutes after clicking icons or start programs. I didn't use software RAID before and I didn't get these kinds of erros.
I am using SSDx4 with RAIDz2. This might be the root cause??

Proxmox Hyperconverged Infrastructure - Storage Hardware

Hello!
We are currently intending to migrate from vSphere to Proxmox, but still ensure that our infrastructure remains hyper converged. Reading over Proxmox VE documentation and forum posts, I can see that Ceph is the 'go-to' software solution for hyper-convergence, however, we just wanted to ascertain what hardware solutions people are using for their storage?

We currently use a SAN integrated with vSphere over FC SCSI which is approaching its best-before date, and whatever solution we...

Remove node from cluster

Hello Guys,

I mistakenly added new node to cluster using public network (instead of storage one). I'm checking https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Cluster_Manager#_remove_a_cluster_node

to remove the node. I powered off the machine (pve7) to make sure it will never power on again (going to reconfigure it from scratch)

However, when I execute pvecm nodes, I don't see this node listed

VM conf file

$

Hi,

I notice when a VM is created, the VMID.conf file is created on the Proxmox's /etc/pve/qemu-server/ directory even if the VM disks are on an NFS datastore. If the Proxmox has a local disk corruption or is unrecoverable, the VMID.conf is lost. Am I understand correctly it's the expected behavior? Unlike the VMware environment, it's common to keep .vmx and all VM's files in one location. Is it possible to do the same in Proxmox?

Thanks.

CT firewall off, datacenter firewall on - no WAN on CT

Hello there,

after several days of googling, asking AI ;) and trying various configurations, I am ready to throw in the towel, hoping some wise person would help me from my misery :D

The setup:
dedicated server from OVH's Kimsufi range (so only single interface available)
IP/28 block ordered for CT's / VM's that need to be publicly accessible
every available IP has a vMAC assigned
test CT that uses public IP's, has that vMAC-IP combo configured

The goal:
Some machines will be...
