Error executing backup

good day all,

today when trying to execute my scheduled backup, i received the following error:

""ERROR: Backup of VM 100 failed - VM 100 qmp command 'backup' failed - backup connect failed: command error: unable to read "/mnt/datastore/backup1/vm/100/owner" - Input/output error (os error 5)""

i tried googling it, but i received noresults. Can someone explain what is the reason and, if possible, guide on how to solve it?

Previous backup has been executed without errors.

How to? Create or edit file with qm guest agent

Hello,

I'm trying to create /test.file with a test content, inside a VM.

Running directly in the VM, normally I can do:

Code: 
echo test > /test.file

So, I expected that running this will work...

Code: 
qm guest exec 100 echo test -- "> /test.file"

But seems is not working...

There is any way to do?

GPU Passthrough, 2 identical GPUs, same VM

I have 2x Nvidia Titan RTXs that I am trying to pass through to a single VM (Machine Learning).

one is in the primary slot of the motherboard. I can pass through each of them successfully, but cannot pass them through at the same time. is there some sort of trick to get this to work?

local-LVM not available after Kernel update on PVE 7

Updated our Proxmox PVE 7 server this morning and upon reboot the local-lvm was not available and VM's would not start. Below are the updates applied:
libpve-common-perl: 7.0-6 ==> 7.0-9
pve-container: 4.0-9 ==> 4.0-10
pve-kernel-helper: 7.0-7 ==> 7.1-2
qemu-server: 7.0-13 ==> 7.0-14

PVE said reboot was required

Once rebooted, the local-lvm showed at 0GB in WebGUI and got a start failed error when I tried to start VMs. See attachment(s)

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe ein komisches Verhalten beim Stromverbrauch festgestellt, wofür ich keine Erklärung finden kann. Ich hoffe hier auf die Schwarmintelligenz.

Ich betreibe Proxmox auf einer i5-13500 CPU.
Für Tests habe ich mir 2 VMS angelegt mit gleichen Einstellungen. Eine mit Windows Server 2022 und eine mit Windows Server 2025.
Beide Maschinen wurden komplett durchgepatcht und der Stromverbrauch begutachtet (natürlich habe ich darauf geachtet das die CPU Load bei 0% liegt - also...

Hi, I am trying to run a proxmox windows, or ubuntu vm, but I always keep on getting an error.
Windows:
It says booting from hard disk then puts me in the bios window?
Ubuntu:
it says booting from hard disk and never does ANYTHING.
Why Is that?

once the iso's in local (pve) /iso images are used to build a vm can they be deleted. I have some old iso's of Ubuntu ie: 18.04 that if not used in some fashion with the vm i created would like to clean house

ich würde gerne für kleinere Kunden einen HA Cluster mit 2 Nodes und ohne QDevice aufbauen.
Aktuelle habe ich nur einen 2 Node Cluster ohne HA im Einsatz. Das funktioniert sehr gut. In einem Disasterfall müssen halt die VMs auf dem Backup Node per Shell aktiviert werden. Es müssen die Hüllen der VMs in das Node2 Verzeichnis verschoben werden. Small Cloud Cluster design and strategy

Currently in the process of redesigning our infrastructure. We currently have 2 bare metal linux servers cloud server.

We have a very limited budget for about 3 rather small servers. I want to take advantage of virtualisation to separate our workloads, redundancy, take advantage of snapshots, quickly deploy environments for our dev team. This is the general design I came up with :

Hi! I just started playing around with re-using my old gaming PC into a Proxmox home lab and so far I am having lots of fun. My next step is to upgrade storage since I am running a single 512GB Samsung EVO 870 SSD and hitting a limit right now.

[SOLVED] No hard disk found

Hi,

I'm trying to install Proxmox VE 8.0-2 on an old laptop (Dell XPS 15 9560). I can start the installation but then I get a "No hard disk found" error.

I know there is no issue with the hard disk as I just booted Windows 10 from it. So the hdd works just fine, but maybe the fact that Windows is still installed on it is the issue? I figured the Proxmox VE installer would partition and format the disk so it wouldn't matter what's on it now.

In short I have a disk shelf connected to the host with a HBA. I do want to keep it as High availability as failover. So that if PVE1 fails the VM will move to PVE2 and mount the HBA in that other node. Effectively only having a possible reboot down time and live access to data. Hi guys,

I'm about to try Proxmox for the first time, and I have some very basic questions...

I think I've pieced together the info from other posts, but a lot of (good) advice seems to rely on NVMe drives, of which I have zero.

What I do have is a cheap used Dell to play around with, and 5 drives - 2 very cheap SSDs and 3 reasonable 4 TB HDD's.

Proxmox PVE 8.2-1 unresponsive after a few days

Greetings. Proxmox PVE 8.2-1 host becomes unresponsive after a few days. It responds to ping, but no SSH or Web Interface. VMs are also unresponsive. The server needs to be power cycled in order to recover. In a few days again the same thing will happen.

GPU Passthrough Ryzen 4600G APU

Hi all,

like a couple of others I have been trying to get GPU passthrough working with a Ryzen APU but now I'm stuck.

First things first - I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm fueled by the naivety of the young and 500 open browser tabs so please go easy on me.

I think I have the basic passthrough working but I'm having trouble getting the amdgpu driver to load on the guest system.

My host is:
Ryzen 5 4600G
Asus ROG B550-A Gaming
32GB Samsung M391A4G43MB1-CTDQ

Is it possible to set the search domain to be the nodes domain so that all containers become subdomains?

I want all my LXCs to be their own subdomain of the node they're on, which is node-1.lan.
I tried setting the search domain to be ".node-1.lan" instead of just ".lan" (it picked it up by default from my DHCP server) but it doesn't work, they're all still just <container>.lan.

Is this possible? I also tried manually setting the hostname of a container to container1.node-1, hoping for container1.node-1.lan, but it still just becomes container1.lan
