Upgrade a PVE Virtual Environment 4.4-24 to the new 8.3

Hello again, everyone. Is it possible to upgrade a PVE Virtual Environment 4.4-24 to the new 8.3? I imagine it can be done from the shell, but could someone kindly write me the commands? I’m not very familiar with Debian and its commands.

Or, could it be done with a USB stick containing the ISO file, by reinstalling everything from scratch? I’m a bit worried because I imagine a fresh installation from USB will erase everything, and I have files on the disk that I don’t know how to retrieve...

[Suggestion] Merge user black/whitelist entries

Hi!
PMG user here (so not an admin, dev etc., I just use the product as set up by company IT).
I noticed that on my account's Blacklist, a lot (like, 100 or so) of the entries come from the same 5 domains (so approx. 20 addresses per) with seemingly randomly generated user-parts, i.e. in the form of `qskfidhep@threerandomwords.cc`. I wanted to consolidate them to 5 wildcard entries, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this.

Cannot connect to new install through web GUI

I am very new to this so expect some mistakes and give any suggestions.

I installed Proxmox 7.4 (8.3 installer was getting stuck on drivers)

I have a console on the machine I installed with a web address and the port. When I try to use my other pc to connect to that address it says
"

This site can’t be reached myIP took too long to respond.​

I tried changing the default ip to one similar to my pc. but no luck.

Hi everybody

I am observing a strange behavior on a freshly installed PVE 8.2.2 (Intel i5-7600K/4 cores, 64 GB RAM), which I have never noticed before.

Two VMs are installed: macOS Sonoma (via luchina-gabriel/OSX-PROXMOX) and Windows 11. In both cases, the processor type is set to "Host" and all 4 cores are passed through to the host.

If I run a CPU-only Geekbench immediately after installing the operating systems, I get 1000 Single Core / 2600 Multicore on macOS - and 1400 SC and...

PDM on debian

HI, I have two PDM installed (different clusters). One PDM is from PDM iso - work perfectly, byt second was installed on Debian configured. And I have som problems with getting data to this PDM. When I have version 0.1.8 only som outages was in graphs, but after update to 0.1.9 I getting data only from one PVE (there is 6 PVE in cluster).

hi,
after upgrading from 8.2.2 to 8.2.4 backups of one random lxc container stopped working,
on this node there are 14 lxc containers, backup of 13 working fine, only one have problem (size of lxc with problem is 110GB, but it should not be issue, i have also 200, 320 and 340 gb, and backup working fine here)

Fehler beim Sync vom Datastore

Hallo,

bisher habe ich mein Backups vom PVE mittels VPN auf einen PBS bei mir auf der Arbeit gemacht.

Nun habe ich bei mit lokal einen PBS aufgesetzt und sicherer darauf.
Auf den PBS auf der Arbeit möchte ich nun den Datastore synchronisieren.

Der Sync schlägt aber jedesmal mit diesem Fehler fehl:

Proxmox mit Ceph und ceph-csi sinnevoll?

Hi,

wir haben eine Proxmox Cluster mit 5 Nodes mit Ceph. Jetzt wollen wir darauf Kubernetes betreiben.
Aktuell Testen ich gerade CSI Treiber und die Frage bei der ich gerade stehe ist wie sinnvoll es ist auf einen ceph einen ceph-csi oder rook mit External Storage zu verwenden?

Das Kubernetes läuft mit Talos als Betriebssystem auf dem Ceph und greift mit dem ceph-csi Treiber wieder auf das Ceph zu.

Gibt es da nicht eine besser Lösung?

Question about /var/log/proxmox-backup/tasks

Hi, I have two PBS running, one on my online Webserver and one in my Homelab.
Both do not store the backups on the server disk itself, the store on a mounted volume.
Now I ran out of storage at one of the PBS and had to increase the size of the disk, which worked fine.

But I am wondering, why one PBS needs onyl round about 3,5GB of disk space, while the other needs more then double!
Investigating the folders I found the difference in this folder:
/var/log/proxmox-backup/tasks

PVE 8.3 node with btrfs booting into grub command line after hard reset

Hi,

for my home lab, I wanted to give btrfs a try and since PVE supports btrfs+RAID on root, I decided to give it a try and added a PVE 8.3 node with exactly that into my little 2 node home lab. Things went smoothly so far, but after a recent hard reboot, the node doesn't boot anymore, but throws me into a grub command line instead.

In there, I can successfully access my EFI partition, but I can't access the root partition, grub isn't able to mount it yet at that stage:

Random VM crashes with a SPICE vm: QEMU free(): corrupted unsorted chunks

I'm starting to see random crashes with one of my VM's after upgrading to 8.x a few weeks ago. I thought it was maybe a one-off, but this one VM keeps crashing over and over. Prior to this, this particular VM had an uptime of months with constant use.

syslog on the proxmox server shows the following in the log. I'm particularly concerned about the first message here though, that looks like a bug in QEMU?

problem with hotplug and 64GB ram

hi, i am having problems with some test vm with 64GB Ram and hotplug (no probs with 32GB and until 45056 MiB).
simply the vm refuse to start with the error :

TASK ERROR: memory size (65536) must be aligned to 2048 for hotplugging

there are no other vm on the proxmox

PBS 3.3.0 Dly Update Status "unknown"

Guten Morgen!

Wir haben bereits 2 PBS auf Version 3.3 hochgezogen. Seitdem erhalten wir auf beiden Systemen beim Dly Update Check Task den Staus unknown.
Das Log selbst (Task Viewer) ist leer, ebenfalls wenn man dieses downloaden möchte.
Als Notification haben wir noch die frührere Methode via root eingestellt (wie sie autom via PBS Updates übernommen wurde)

Im Journalctl ist folgendes zu sehen:

Backup von 2 PVE Nodes im Homelab - Zweimal PBS sinnvoll?

Hallo,

ich nutze aktuelle einen PVE und noch einen ESXi Host. Dieser soll aber auch bald auf PVE umgerüstet werden.
Also ich hätte am Ende zwei PVE Knoten (PVE01 und PVE02).

Macht als Backup Konzept folgendes Sinn:

PVE01:
TrueNAS-VM01
PBS-VM01 sichert alles von PVE02 nach TrueNAS-VM02 Storage

PVE02 (noch ESXi):
TrueNAS-VM02
PBS-VM02 sichert alles von PVE01 nach TrueNAS-VM01 Storage

Also auf jeden Proxmox Host eine PBS Instanz die den anderen PVE sichert.

VMs shutting down on their own

I was getting ready to add more ram into one node so I moved VMs over to another node. Once that was done I shut down the node that now had no VMs running on it. It occurred to me that I did the wrong node when I got to the server room as there is another node physically sitting on it, so I can't move it to install the ram. So I turned it back on, so I can move the VMs over to the other node instead.

Hello everyone! I have a very unusual issue with getting backups to run with a specific Debian LXC. If any of my ZFS mount points are included as part of the backup, the backup to my Proxmox Backup Server will fail immediately.

What is interesting is that only this LXC has issues with this. I have other LXCs with mount points passed through and those appear to operate without issue. VMs are also backing up OK. The LXC configuration is virtually identical as well, which leads me to believe...

Restore single Virtual Disk from PBS

Hi,

my configuration is:
  • Cluster of 5 PVE nodes (PVE 7.0-10) whit Ceph 16.2.5
  • n. Proxmox Backup Server 1.0-5 (I will update it next month)
I have some backups of a Windows Server 2019 guest wits 2 virtual disks (scsi0 and scsi1) and I want to restore only one virtual disk (scsi0). How can I do it? In the GUI I can restore only the full VM, I can't choose which virtual disk to restore...

Could you help me, please
