Disk Speeds inside a VM.

This is my issue.

My proxmox host has 2 SSD's. One is for the host itself, and the other is for the virtual Disks for the VMs and containers.
If I run hdparm or dd directly on the host, I get speeds on the VM SSD disk of around 370-390 MB/s, which is what I would expect.

If I go into a VM (doesnt matter if its windows or Ubuntu), the write speeds drop to 60-70MB/s with caching off, and around 110-130MB/s with write back enabled.
And with write back enabled, I get file transfers pausing for...

The domains are the same internal network, but the IPs are different.(pve server:32.99:8006, web server:32.22:4200)

Problem Statement:

  1. I called the /api2/json/access/ticket endpoint to retrieve the ticket and CSRFPreventionToken values. The ticket was used as a browser cookie, but I’m not sure exactly when the CSRFPreventionToken should be applied. Regardless, I kept both values.
  2. Next, I called the /api2/json/nodes/${node}/qemu/${vmid}/vncproxy endpoint to obtain the port...

I can't ping it from any computer on my netowrk. I CAN ping it from my router.

I'm pretty new at this. I'm sorry if I overlooked something! Here are my outputs. Any help is appreciated!

I've been tinkering with a zimacube, and I finally got my SATA drives for it. I had a handful of SSD SATA drives in there so I could experiment. I removed all of those from the storage.cfg after deleting the pools and replacing the drives, and probably did some other things getting the storage bits initialized. This is probably super simple, but all of my other nodes are just mini-PCs and I've never had to do anything storage related :| I've been all over the place looking at different...

Tutorial: Run LLMs using AMD GPU and ROCm in unprivileged LXC container

Create a Ubuntu 24.04 LXC container.
I used the excellent tteck script but you can also do using any other method you are comfortable with.
Give it plenty of specs regarding storage, RAM and CPU (according to Ollama's recommendations)
I chose 32GB and all available cores. Give it plenty of storage to accomodate your models (can be expanded using the GUI)
I chose 60 GB to start. ROCm takes up ~30 GB.

In the LXC container:
install ROCm according to official instructions but...

Unable to Connect to Proxmox GUI from Another Subnet

I have been trying for days on a fresh proxmox install to access the web gui from a different subnet.

PC1 (192.168.11.145/24)
Proxmox (192.168.10.27/24)
Unifi Gateway/Firewall (192.168.10.1 or 192.168.11.1)

I can ping the Proxmox box from PC 1 but ssh and the web gui (ensuring to use HTTPS) does not work.

I have disabled the firewall on the Datacenter and Node with no new success.
I have disabled all rules on my unifi device that could block traffic.

The only success I have had is...

Storage recommendations for home workload?

$

Hi,

I'm planning on building a new Proxmox server for my home environment (hosting a NAS, K8s, websites, Minecraft, DBs, home networking, etc.). Regarding VM/CT/NAS storage, I'm not too sure how I should go about it.

I was thinking either:
  • 2x 1TB NVME SSDs (ZFS mirror) used as the boot volume and for storing VM/CT boot disks
  • 2x 4TB HDDs (ZFS mirror) used for storing important files, DBs, etc.
Or:
  • Some random SSD as the boot drive (the idea being that availability...

Debian 12 Cloud-Init VM: Which Cloud Init Image to Use?

Hello,

I'm following a tutorial for this, and it's awesome, but one of the things they didn't mention is which format of image to download between qcow2, raw, and tar.xz.

These are my choices:

1734496444991.png

My VM storage is local on the Proxmox node. It's a ZFS mirror on a pair of NVME. The storage itself is thin provisioned. Space is not a concern.
When I make a new VM manually (with no template or Cloud-Init), my only option for saving VM disks is "Raw", but I'm not sure how relevant...

Why server crawled to halt and died?

Hi,

Weird thing happened on my Proxmox server (8.2.7) hosted with OVH. I was noticing that connections to both the Proxmox server itself (as well as any VMs on virtual IPs behind my pfSense acted like they had network congestion). I eventually lost the ability to even SSH or HTTPs into Proxmox, so I went to the virtual KVM with the provider and saw that Proxmox was at the regular boot screen. When I typed in "root" and hit enter, I was never prompted for a password. The cursor would...

NFS does not remount

I have storage mounted with NFS, the NFS share has data disks for VMs on a Windows storage pool. Yes, I know this is not ideal, eventually I will be copying the data off and then converting the windows storage pool to full ZFS but that's a fair bit down the line.

What I find is that if the Windows VM is rebooted the NFS share hangs and does not reconnect once the VM is back up.

i've tried various ways to get NFS to auto mount or remount, I've tried manually mapping as well as autofs but...

Can proxmox recognize LVM Thin pool create on another instance? (and some storage advice needed)

Hi all,

I need some advice. I have HP ProDesk 600 G3 with i5-7500T that I am turning into home server. It has 40GB RAM and one 2TB NVMe SSD + one 2TB SATA SSD. The HVMe drive is ofcourse much sater than the SATA drive (2000+ MB/s vs 450 - 500 MB/s). I want to use the machine to put my Nextcloud AIO docker installation plus want to play with other VMs and also have a SMB file server. proxmox is installed on the NVMe drive (was the only drive when installed) with majority of it defined as LVM...

Hi all, I recently posted this thread about my options for migrating my data to my new hardware and I've been messing around with a LOT of options, but I did go ahead and copy all my data to a spare hard drive and migrate my physical storage disks into the new machine. This means I currently have:
  • My old server (Windows on bare metal) with all my data on the spare hard drive, still fully functional
  • My new server (Proxmox on bare metal) with my two storage drives, doing...

Proxmox with Second Hand Enterprise SSDs

I had many problems related to VERY HIGH iowait on my Proxmox VE Systems using Crucial MX500, which is a Consumer SSD (and one with very little DRAM, so once that fills up, Performance drops like a Rock).

Now I got 2 x Intel DC S3610 1.6 TB SSDs which should be very good for VM Storage or also more intensive stuff, since I got Reccomendation from many Sources that - even second Hand - Enterprise SSDs have WAY better Performance.

According to the Datasheet, these should be rated at 10.7 PB...

TrueNAS to provide storage to Proxmox Cluster. Does it make sense?

$

Hello,

I’m struggling with a dilema: Does it makes sense to install TrueNAS to provide shared storage to a Proxmox cluster?

I already have 3 bare metal computers configured in a cluster. But at this point, the virtual machines running in the cluster use the storage of the host. I want to migrate the storage to a centralized storage (in another bare metal computer) and I’ve two options:

1) Install TrueNAS in that computer and, somehow, provide storage to the datacenter. I Don’t know if...
