[Guide] Jellyfin + remote network shares + HW transcoding with Intel's QSV + unprivileged LXC

Took me two days to get it working but it was well worth the effort. Thought I'd share as I see this question asked often.


Set up the LXC

• Use Debian 12, update and upgrade, install curl:

apt update -y && apt upgrade -y
apt install curl






Install Jellyfin

Extremely Slow Download of Updates

While doing now the usual Proxmox VE updates in shell, I'm getting extremely low download rates. Example:

Get:1 http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve bullseye/pve-no-subscription amd64 pve-kernel-5.15.107-2-pve amd64 5.15.107-2 [76.8 MB]

It eventually cuts out completely.

How can I restore backups from a folder

I have added a shared folder to my pbs I can access from my windows machine where I have some backups from a previous pve install

I have tried adding the backups but they don't show in the gui do I need to update the .chunks folder?

or something else thanks.

how do you sync into a specific namespace?

Namespace properties seem to sync along with the actual backups.
If you try to sync something in namspace /a to a PBS with namspace /b, what you get is /b/a/.

I want to grab stuff from /a on the first server and put it into /b without its namespace properties.
I want /a from the first server to go into /b. Just that. Just the content, not the freakin namespace too.

How do I do that?

I am trying to make a proxmox cluster that uses the built in ceph storage to create a pool where I can store all of my files, photos, videos, movies, music and the lot. Basically one giant hard drive that I can connect my home computers to via 10g network. I would also like the ability to remote into the pool to watch movies on a tablet or laptop when away from home. I am new to proxmox and ceph and have never worked with vm's before. Solution: Intel iGPU passthrough to Linux VM but failed with Kernel 6.10 onward

This is just to share, if you are using intel iGPU passthrough to a Linux VM, you might encounter a problem that no HDMI output if you upgrade your Linux VM to kernel 6.10 onward.

i have Alderlake iGPU passthrough to Linux VM with working HDMI output correctly using Kernel 6.11-rc5 now.

Network drops on boot

I had Proxmox up and running and everything was working fine. I ran an update and everything was still working great. I shut down the computer to remove my raid card to connect the hard drives directly to the mobo. After I booted up I noticed that I wasn't showing any activity light on the ethernet jack after boot.

If I boot into the bios the ethernet jack goes active and I can ping the IP. However, after Proxmox VE loads, the port goes dark again and I can't hit the IP anymore.

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe aus Unwissenheit in der Vergangenheit versäumt meinen Proxmox mal hochzuziehen.
Nun Plane ich einen kompletten Umstieg auf einen stärkeren NUC und werde in diesem Zug Proxmox 8.2 frisch aufsetzen.

Ich versuche seit Tagen Informationen zu finden wie ich am besten vorgehe um meine bestehenden VM‘s und Container umzuziehen und nicht anschließend im absoluten Chaos zu enden.

Allerdings lese ich soviel verschiedene Aussagen und bin mittlerweile komplett verwirrt...

Generic Solution when install gets FrameBuffer Mode Fails

I was installing VE 7.2 on my brand new host box... first ran into black screen after install begins -- see separate thread on that.

Then, install failed, with the X server conking out before anything graphical happened. Here's the generic solution:

1) Hit ctrl-alt-F2 to see the error screen from the install (and ctrl-alt-F1 to get back to the console ;) )

I recently built a SFF system with the newer Ryzen 7 "Renoir" 4750G APU and ASRock X300 case/motherboard combo. I'm hoping to set it up with PVE (v6.3-1) with several guests, and would like to pass through its integrated GPU (Radeon RX Vega-based) to a Windows 10 VM.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to passthrough the iGPU to a Windows guest VM, following a guide I found online. However, when I attempt to start the Windows VM, the hypervisor completely hangs, forcing me to reboot the host machine. I've been stuck on this issue for a while and can't seem to find a solution.

Hi,

Is there any possibility of adding a custom tag on the node level? I require that our data centre have a lot of servers belonging to different teams. We want to add the team name/manager name on the node level instead of adding a tag on qemu/lxc.

As a newbie on a fresh test installation, I added a Debian VM for a start. A mouse lag is experienced when accessing it through noVNC. I have read many threads but got confused: which is the easiest way to avoid it, say by adding a passthrough whilst sticking with noVNC.

In the VM’s hardware tab, we have all these options:

add USB Device
spice port
use mapped device
use USB port

add PCI Device
mapped device
raw device

I have a HP DL380 with an NVME riser card / cage and I already set 3x NVME drives on the Proxmox host itself to provide storage for the VMs. (Host OS sits on RAID1 on the internal hw RAID controller of the machine.)

Now I need additional fileserver storage - my original plan was to passthrough the 5x remaining NVME drives to a VM machine running TrueNAS.

we have a fresh installed PVE 8.2.3 3-node cluster with Ceph file storage backend. Issue enabling SR-IOV on Intel Alder Lake-P iGPU (Proxmox 6.8, xe Driver)

I’ve been trying to enable SR-IOV on my Proxmox server with an Intel Alder Lake-P integrated GPU for GPU passthrough purposes. I’ve installed the latest Proxmox version and switched to the new `xe` driver, which has better support for newer Intel GPUs, including the Alder Lake architecture.
Questions:
1. Is there current SR-IOV support for Intel Alder Lake-P iGPUs using the `xe` driver?
