Network Problem after networking restart

Hello Proxmox Freaks,

sometimes we have issues with our windows vms ... loosing any network connection.
What we do to fix it : shutdown the vm and start again.

is there any better solution ? To restart only the Network Device of the vm from the proxmox host ?

SMB/CIFS unable to activate storage after share restarted

Hi!

I've been running Proxmox about a year and absolutely love it. However, I've been having a problem since I first installed that I can't solve (I've searched here and Google too).

Proxmox (fully updated 8.1.10) is connected via SMB/CIFS to a Windows box that has most of my additional storage. When I restart the Windows box Proxmox immediately notices that the share is disconnected and keeps trying to reconnect (which is great), however even when the Windows machine comes back online...

Hallo zusammen,

wie kann ich Backups von bestimmten Festplatten für z.B. Cloud Backups weglassen?

Ich habe:
  • HDD1 System
  • HDD2 Wichtige Daten
  • HDD3 Unwichtige Daten (Ausfall verschmerzbar)

Meine Daten werden im Moment lokal gesichert, hier speichere ich einfach alles.
Für mein Offside-Backup würde ich gerne nur HDD2 sichern, da Cloudspeicher teuer ist.

Im Moment mach ich das mit rsync in der VM direkt. Eine Vereinheitlichung würde mir aber sehr gefallen.

Tutorial: Unprivileged LXCs - Mount CIFS shares

Since unprivileged LXCs are not allowed to mount CIFS shares and priviliged LXCs are considered unsafe (for a reason) I was scraping my head around how to still have my NAS shares available in my LXCs, f.e. (Jellyfin, Plex, ...).

The solution provided by the Proxmox Wiki would require many changes to the PVE host config, which I was not willing to do.

Unable to Access Disk - can't activate LV/Failed to find logical volume

Recently, one of the disks on my VMs had an issue. It was connected to a SAN via iSCSI. The data is apparently still on SAN, but it does not show in VM Disks in the GUI.

It is currently set as Unused in Hardware and when I try to attach it I get the following:
TASK ERROR: can't activate LV '/dev/SAN/vm-368-disk-0': Failed to find logical volume "SAN/vm-368-disk-0"

NIC passthrough for OPNSense VM, Intel NIC 2 ports

Hi,

Using Proxmox 8.0.4, planning to install latest OPNSense 23.7.x. I am familiar with Linux but new to both Proxmox and OPNSense. Looking for advice for the general direction to read further documentation and practice.

The Proxmox host has 3 physical NICs
  • enp4s0 = Realtek RTL8125 built-in in the motherboard. Currently is used by vmbr0 bridge, created at Proxmox installation time.
  • enp2s0f0, enp2s0f1 = Intel card, PCIe 2 ports. Currently not used by Proxmox

pve-firewall blocks large UDP ipsec packets

Hello,
Firewall is enabled in datacenter, but disabled on host and vm. Packets 5 and 6 (see attached image), same as 8 and 9, appears on tap vm interface on host, but pve-firewall drops those frames (does not appear on host uplink interface). Everything works fine when pve-firewall service is disabled.

Unable to do PCI Passthrough with Dell R630 server?

I am trying to do PCI Passthrough per the wiki article:

Hallo zusammen,

vielleicht kann mich jemand erleuchten.
Ich möchte nachträglich auf einem 3-Node-Cluster die Firewall aktivieren.
Um das einigermassen problemlos zu testen, habe ich einen Node geräumt und bei den anderen beiden in den Firewall-Options die Firewall auf "NO" gestellt.

Wenn ich jetzt den Schalter für die Firewall auf "yes" umlege im Datacenter-Bereich, wird die Firewall dann nur für den leeren Node aktiviert oder ändert Proxmox den Schalter für die beiden anderen Nodes dann...

No internet access for a container

Hi guys,

I am new to proxmox and quite a newbie in netwowrking though I know a little bit about linux command.

I have a proxmox host on an OVH server. I have created a ubuntu CT container with the following configuration.

we are running quite a large Proxmox cluster environment here (23 nodes) and have recently updated all our nodes to Proxmox 8.0 according to the official documentation. Since then we are having severe issues with all our qemu-driven Windows Server 2019 VMs, which we use to provide users with a connection-broker driven RDP Terminal-Server cluster. All other VMs (Linux, Windows10, WindowsXP, etc. run smoothly).

Intel Nuc 13 Pro Thunderbolt Ring Network Ceph Cluster

Hello,

I do have a problem with my Proxmox intel Nuc Cluster.

It contains 3 Intel Nuc 13 Pro and uses its 2 Thunderbolt Ports to form a ring networt for ceph communication.
Proxmox/Ceph – Full Mesh HCI Cluster w/ Dynamic Routing

To handle the Network routing, I am using FRR and ospf.

To enable the Thunderboltports as a network device, I loaded the kernel modules "thunderbolt" and "thunderbolt-net" in "/etc/modules"

cannot ping google.com or 8.8.8.8

hi !

very very new to proxmox and virtualization

im trying to get dns to work so i can use a bittorrent container, probleme is i cannot ping google.com or 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 name it.. neither on the node neither on the container - i can ping whats inside my local network but nothing outside.. please help :)

Hallo,

ich wollte mal nach ein paar Meinungen oder Verbesserungsvorschlägen zu meinem Homelab fragen.
Proxmox VE Host 1: Fujitsu mini PC (G4400, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD) - opnSense + reverseProxy
Proxmox VE Host 2: Dell Mini PC (i5 8500t, 16GB RAM, 32GB Optane fürs System + 1TB SSD für Disks) - da läuft so ziemlich alles andere drauf, Dockerhost, Nextcloud, Home Assistant etc.
Backups von Host 1 werden auf Host 2 und umgekehrt gespeichert, zusätzlich gehen die verschlüsselt in eine Hetzner...

Migration issue

Hello everyone,

I have a problem in connection with the migration of servers within a newly created cluster, a total of 3 containers have to be moved from server 1 to server 2.

When I want to migrate a container, I get the following error message:

The CT is moved to the other system anyway, but cannot be started there due to the missing hard disk. If I then move the CT back, it works again.

I have installed Proxmox 8.1.2 onto my NVME around 10 times today and at every finish, when I go to log in, I get an error. The error reads, "Login failed. Please try again."
I have changed IP addresses, Gateway addresses, and DNS server each time. A few times, I even left them default and either still received the same error or wouldn't even load the web interface. I am at my wits end, and that isn't saying much as I am new to virtualization and all this.

Hi There,

I'm trying to achieve a replication of a VM(id100) from Node A to Node B (and vice versa) - so when i make changes on VM that resides on NodeA it replicates that change to NodeB VM, yes i know that must be ZFS but i cant understand when in my scenario i have two nodes both nodes have a 500GB ssd where i want my VM100 to be replicated simple, but not looking simple when i receive the error saying: missing replicate feature on volume 'local-lvm:vm-100-disk-1' (500).
