Scheduler / need advise

$

Hello community,

I need an general advise howto tune the scheduler in proxmox for:

- Fibrechannel-SAN
- Local RAID-Controller SAS
- DRBD via 10GBE Intel

I thought I read somewhere to leave the default cfq-scheduler in production. But is that true for fast RAID-Controllers or DRBD.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt response and support, Ive set up Windows 2012 std Edtn and a Cent OS 6.2 client in HS 23 blade. I have to install some softwares in Windows server, so I mounted the DVD drive to this blade and assigned the physical CD/DVD drive in proxmox to windows but I couldn't see the contents in the DVD in windows server. I couldn't understand where it went wrong any inputs to fix this will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

2 node cluster

Hi all,

I plan to configure a 2 node cluster based on 2 Dell servers and a MD3200 DAS (via SAS link).
I'm looking for HA, so I need a quorum disk.
The (stupid) question is: the quorum disk should be used via iSCSI from a VM running in the cluster ?
What happen if the quorum disk fail (example the VM crash) ?
What happen if I don't have a quorum disk ?

Thanks in adavance.

The latest phpBB v3.1.0 dev is available as a pre-installed commercially supported OpenVZ Template with Planettel.

The VM's first boot log would show something similar to:

Question on vzdump phase order, for hook script usage

$

Hello,

What phase comes after the last backup is done, but before log-end? Put another way...the point at which all of the backups are done, but the log is still running.

"backups-done"? or maybe "pre-log-end"?

If this is not currently available I think it would be an excellent addition! (I have a hook script that needs it)

Thank you,
Mark

Proxmox cluster over Infiniband issues

$

Hi,

We are running a 3 node proxmox cluster over an infiniband network. We are using iSCSI based shared storage running over IPoIB over that same IB network. When our back up run at night sometimes we get cluster issues, always on a specific node. The node drops out of the cluster, is fenced and rebooted.
The load on the proxmox nodes is quite low, traffic over the IB link is no where near capacity. Is this a multicast issue?
Can we get more logging on cluster so we can get a better view into what is going on?

We see no errors in syslog or messages, no errors in the infiniband opensm.
The Corosync log shows configuration change, the node leaving and rejoining:

Network & Services - Configuration

Hello all,

I have a proxmox cluster with :
- Physical host A
- Physical host B
- Virtual host C for HA

Between Physical hosts, I have a lvm drbd shared for the VM (Primary/Primary; Sync is OK).

For each physical host, have two NIC.
This NICs is in bond0 and the bond0(-rr) is associate to vmbr0 at 192.168.10.1/24. (And 192.168.10.2/24 for the second host).

Now for the VMs, we need severals networks.
Indeed, we have :
- 192.168.10.1/24 (X-10) for the network admin (IP to physicals hosts and VMs eth)
- 192.168.20.1/24 (Y-20) and 192.168.30.1 (Z-30) for the VMs.

Each network is in differents vlans(10-20-30).

VMs (one eth per network) communicate on all network between all physical hosts but the server have only 2 NIC.

For me, the physical host configuration is :

The configuration doesn't work.

For the drbd cluster, I have a desync. Impact is if we migrate a VM to the second host while the desync, the VM not boot and have : "/Booting from Hard Disk ; Boot failed: not a bootable disk".
So, I shall stop the VM for stop the use ressource, and restart drbd service on two physical hosts for recovery my drbd service = HA lost.

I need that the drbd is up automatically when this is down.
( Heartbeat ? Pacemaker ? What's actions ? )

In the second part, what is the best solution for my network configuration ? Dummy interfaces ?

thanks per advance !

Edit :

I think at this for the network configuration :

Code:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# Eth interfaces

iface eth0 inet manual
iface eth1 inet manual

# Bond interfaces

auto bond0
iface bond0 inet manual
        slaves eth0 eth1
        bond_miimon 100
        bond_mode balance-rr

# VLAN

auto bond0.2
iface bond0.2 inet manual
        vlan-raw-device bond0

auto bond0.3
iface bond0.3 inet manual
        vlan-raw-device bond0

auto bond0.4
iface bond0.4 inet manual
        vlan-raw-device bond0

# vmbr interfaces
auto vmbr0
iface vmbr0 inet static
    address  192.168.10.3
    netmask  255.255.255.0
    gateway  192.168.10.1
    bridge_ports bond0.2
    bridge_stp off
    bridge_fd 0

auto vmbr1
iface vmbr1 inet static
    address  192.168.20.3
    netmask  255.255.255.0
    bridge_ports bond0.3
    bridge_stp off
    bridge_fd 0

auto vmbr2
iface vmbr2 inet static
    address  192.168.30.3
    netmask  255.255.255.0
    bridge_ports bond0.4

What do you think to this ?

Configuring pfsense in VM with static IP from DSL modem

$

I currently have a static IP coming from a DSL modem in bridge mode assigned to the WAN interface on a dedicated pfsense box that serves all of my LAN clients through a switch -including my existing office servers and my PBX server running on dedicated machines.

I would like to combine all of these machines in one proxmox environment on a PoweEdge2950.

What is the proper way to configure the VE interfaces? I would like to let pfsense route all network traffic - even to the VE. Can a VM serve as a gateway for a VE?

I am an enduser, not a techie, and the environment is a busy office that makes it difficult to experiment.

Thanks for your time and assistance.

Is there a solution ?

Hi,

We have encountered problem with GRUB while VM is booting up. The problem has totally random behaviour.
Error:

It happens after rebooting Proxmox VE and while VMs are booting up (just after reboot Proxmox VE). But as I said, it does not happen every time.

Our systems:

Any hint, suggestion will be highly appreciated.

KVM VMs are restarted erratically

Hi all !
We are running a 2 Node HA cluster with quorum disk, and around 30 lvm-based VMs on a node. Two or three times a day, some of the VMs
are shut down and restarted by proxmox. Which VMs are affected seems to be random.

/var/log/cluster/rgmanager.log shows
Code:

Apr 29 12:07:32 rgmanager [pvevm] got empty cluster VM list
at the beginning of the sequence.

To track this down, I extracted the code responsible for the message to a little perl script which fetches the list every second, but
the script always gets it correctly.

Any hints what to do or try ?

Thanks a lot for proxmox !

I had issues with a VM and tried removing it manually...

i now have 2 orphaned VM HDD files in my iSCSI storage - how can i remove them?

i have checked in all my nodes and the files do not show up in /dev/proxmox-lvm or /dev/proxmox-lvm-two

any clues on how to remove them?

they are displayed in the GUI but the remove option is greyed out.

memory ballooning in windows 2003r2 x86 guest

Hi,
Has anyone have success installing virtio balloon drivers in windows 2003 guest?
I set up the machine according to this article
http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Dynamic_....2F_Windows_Xp
I first tried installing the balloon driver using the devcon utility as it was described on the same article, but all I got was the BSOD.
Then I installed the driver on the windows 2003 guest using the procedure for windows 2008R2 (I found the unknown "PCI Device" in the device manager and installed the driver for it, pointing to the virtio-cdrom) and installed the balloon service accordingly.
But the driver doesn't work. It shows 0 MB RAM being used in the web gui when the VM is running. The balloon service is running. The Virtio Balloon driver shows in the device manager that it is OK.
The same works well on windows 2008r2 guests.

Here is the screen with the current situation in the guest and what the proxmox console is showing:

SUGGESTION: integrate noVNC

I've recently stumbled upon a project called noVNC that promises to implement a VNC client using HTML5 (WebSockets, Canvas) with encryption (wss://) support.

As it's an open source project, I think it would be a worthwile addition to the PVE web interface, which is not usable on mobile devices currently due to the Java-based VNC client.

Hi All,

I'm just trying to setup a Win 2012 setup on one of our HP Proliant DL360 G4 and I'm getting the following error message when trying to boot:

Your PC needs to restart
Please hold down the power button.
Error Code: 0x0000005D
Parameters:
0x00000000178BFBF9
0x000000002193FBF9
0x0000000000000000
0x0000000000000000

Looking this error up in google suggests that 'Execute Bit Disabled' needs to be enabled in the server's BIOS which it is, but I'm still getting this error.

I've tried several different 'CPU' options for the VM; kvm64, qemu64, host; but all return the same error.

How can I specify for the VM that Execute Bit is disabled?

Thanks
Anubis.
