ProxMox web GUI 3.3 with OpenVZ containers get's non usable

Here is the screenshot

proxmox.png

One of the containers hangs/freezes I can not enter it...and that is the reason proxmox becomes unusable. I know rebooting the server will clear all stuck/zombie processes from the stuck container but this happens on weekly basis and I can not reboot the server every 5 days....

# pveversion
pve-manager/3.3-1/a06c9f73 (running kernel: 2.6.32-32-pve)

Since I do not want to reboot how can I get proxmox web gui to operate? Can I somehow exclude the problem container from the proxmox list? Wne ca container gets stuck I see allot of TIME_WAIT connections to that container. Since I use venet for the containers would the containers be more stable is I used veth?

confused w/r to LVM visibility

Hi all,

I am a bit confused w/r to the visibility of a VM's LVM devices from the PVE host.
Inside LVMs I have partitions like this:

/dev/vda1 => /boot
/dev/vda2 => extended partition
/dev/vda5 => LVM physical volume

and then one logical volume for root and one for swap.

This is the result of having used the debian installer and choosing to use the whole disk (/dev/vda) and enabling lvm.

Now, from the proxmox node, I can see all these devices, which seems odd to me.
From other threads I gather that some people have seen this when using e.g. /dev/vda inside a VM as a physical device, but I am not doing that.

To add to my confusion, if I try to migrate on of those VMs (e.g. moving the disk to ceph and then migrate the VM), I get an error telling me that the VM still uses local disks.

Any ideas on how to solve this? (Apart of refraining from using lvm inside VMs from now on).

Thanks,

Martin

Clean Tasks history when VM removed ?

Hi,

Just a detail, when we remove a VM in Proxmox, its "Tasks history" are never cleaned.

So when a new VM gets the same ID of removed VM, it gets back its "Tasks history", which does not make any sense.

Is it expected ? Or is it more logic to clean Tasks history list on delete ?

Problem monitoring RAM witch GUI

Hello,

I have a problem with proxmox 3.3.-5

Noyau : Linux 2.6.32-34-pve

When displaying the graphical interface using the ram was not correct, that is to say, for example, a VM under Windows Server 2012 with 4 GB of ram, I currently consumes 500 MB of ram the GUI told me that the ram to use and 100% and summarizes the server as the ram my server and 100 % while not.

I search on the internet to see if the bug has already been wound but I find nothing.
Do you have a tip for the ram monitoring is correct ?
In advance thank you

Hi, I've default outgoing policy to reject. System date is ok, but in the log for drop packages I've something like
0 6 PVEFW-HOST-IN 19/Mar/2015:11:32:44 +0100 policy DROP: IN=vmbr0 PHYSIN=eth0 etc
while for REJECT I've
0 6 PVEFW-HOST-OUT 01/Jan/1970:01:00:00 +0100 policy REJECT: OUT=vmbr0 SRC= etc
where you can see date/time is "not set" / wrong 01/Jan/1970:01:00:00

Hello everybody!

I try to find a solution, to get my HP V1910 managed switch to run with my three nodes with Promox VE 3.4.
Does anyone successfully configurates a managed switch?
I have problems with this command:

ERROR:root:Returned 1: Timeout: No Response from 192.168.X.XX:161

ERROR:root:Please use '-h' for usage

I have created a community on the switch called "fencing". But why i get these error?

FTP not working, only login, ls blocked by firewall even with nf_conntrack_ftp

pve-manager/3.4-1/3f2d890e (running kernel: 3.10.0-5-pve), default OUT policy to REJECT, an external ftp server I need to access to save backups there.
I've added nf_conntrack_ftp in /etc/modules, and added a rule with FTP macro to let out traffic go for that protocol (and destinaion IP) and rebooted. An lsmod shows nf_conntrack_ftp be present.
Code:

# ftp -p -n <FTP_SERVER_IP>
[...]
ftp> ls
227 Entering Passive Mode
ftp: connect: Connection refused
ftp>

and in the firewall log
Code:

0 6 PVEFW-HOST-OUT  01/Jan/1970:01:00:00 +0100 policy REJECT: OUT=vmbr0  SRC=<MY_SRC_IP> DST=<FTP_SERVER_IP> [...] DF PROTO=TCP  SPT=38434 DPT=28679
otherwise if I add at the top a "pass all" our rule, everything works
Code:

ftp> ls
227 Entering Passive Mode
150 Accepted data connection
drwxr-xr-x    2 1001      ftp              4096 Feb  6 15:55 dump

Shared ssd disc for host and journal

How do I share a SSD with proxmox host and use it for journal for Ceph?
I tried pvedaemon /dev/sdb --journal_dev /dev/sda2

This works but creating the second OSD, errors out because they use the same journal.
Should I make different partitions for all OSD's?
Or is there another way?

gluster slow on restore and backup?

Hi
i have a proxmox cluster 3.4 with 3 nodes.

2 of them have glusterfs-server installed and share a 16TB volume.
Each server is connected to a 10Gb switch with a single 10Gb nic

Local writes to the mounted raid 5 partiotion can be done with about 450 MB/sec

I configured glusterfs as storage for all nodes.

When i restore vm's (Backup files are between 30 and 60 GB) i can only restore with about 60-80 MB/sec which seems a bit slow.
Also Backups of running vm's can only be done with about 100 MB/sec.

When i do a "mount" on NODE1, i can only see that NODE1:/gluster is mounted
a "Mount" on NODE2 gives me also only NODE1:/gluster

i have configured the storage to use NODE1 and NODE2

It is a simple replica 2 glustervolume.

Can anyone give suggestions?

I would love to see one of the Actions for the rules to be use this smarthost and have a place to define the smarthost to use for that message this way I can make the gateway into an email router of sorts filtering on keywords and other criteria.

Also having the ability to use a regex in the field that defines the criteria to perform the action on would be the next request.

Thanks

don't stop being awesome

I may not be a financial contributor, but I just want to say to those at proxmox, don't stop! I love proxmox ve, have been running it for over a year now, and I'm loving the development cycles and how awesome it runs. I know there is still room for improvements, but wow guys, you're doing awesome as far as I'm concerned! I love the things like html5 console addition, migrateall (even though mine isn't working right now), and the migration of VMs live is so reliable it's incredible.

And I'm using it on consumer grade systems (based around fx-8320's) with almost no server-grade hardware in the infrastructure (zfs backed storage though).

Don't stop being awesome.

Installing Docker inside VZ

https://openvz.org/Docker_inside_CT

I am following that tutorial and using the pvetest latest kernel that should have docker support built in.
Code:

~# vzctl set 101 --netfilter full --savevzctl: unrecognized option '--netfilter'
I got stuck here, any ideas?

Try to understand Proxmox Firewall and IP per MAC

$

Hi there,

I'm very confused about the new proxmox firewall.
I tried to read something about this, but didn't help.

When you enable firewall for cluster, have you enabled firewall for all virtual machines inside of it?
May I have firewall enabled for 1 VM but not for other VMs?

I tried to apply some rules in one of my VMs, but it shows to don't work. I tried to closed port 22 for VM XXX, but the port 22 still open.

Another question is...
Is possible with this new firewall, prevent IP stealing by MAC? If some user try to add an IP to a VM, works only if an administrator permit this IP to be used by this VM MAC address.

I found this error : 'EV: error in callback (ignoring): received unhandled websocket opcode 10' form the log file /var/log/daemon.log when my pve-manager lose response again.

The pve-manager gui won't work again until I restart the service pveproxy. And this problem occurs frequently.

Slow Network, High CPU Usage, Large data files,

We installed a Proxmox server for a client, and recently updated to it to ProxMox V3.4

The specification of the bare metal computer is -
- 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2650 Processor 2.0GHz 20MB Cache 8 Cores
- 32GB DDR3 Registered ECC RAM
- Intel Hardware SATA RAID Controller with battery backup
- 2 x Seagate 2TB 3.5” Enterprise Mission Critical SATA Drives
- 2 x Seagate 5TB 3.5” Enterprise Mission Critical SATA Drives

Proxmox and the VM installed on 1 of the 2TB HDD.
This is the only virtual on the Machine.

The VM is 800GB Running Win Server 2008R2, all updates loaded.
Partitioned Op-Sys and programs 55GB, 20GB free. Data 745GB, 155 GB free.

We used Virtio drivers for Network, Drives and Memory (1GB min 32GB max)

We do backup's to the other 2TB and the 2 x 5TB drives.

The VM is currently configured to act both as a production server, and after a VM copy, a test/development server with the ability to restore the earlier working production environment.
The reason we chose this scenario was the client was unwilling to outlay more cash for the licensing of a complete set of applications for the test/development server, and the applications cannot be copied to another server as they are hardware locked to a single server, and the application provider is unwilling or unable to provide a application set suitable for a test/development server.

The install proceeded well, all was going OK, installed Windows Server 2008R2, did updates and patches, added to the existing domain.

Applications and programs installed and initial test runs completed.

The server was moved into full production, and they use multiple RDP logins (between 2 to 10)

The applications run like a dog, very slowly, if at all. We are talking get a coffee, from the cafe across the street.
.
The Processor, in the Proxmox interface the CPU usage jumps to 85% to 100%.
Similar when looking at the VM CPU usage in the Proxmox interface.
Looking at the CPU usage from within the VM, under Windows it shows average of around 60%.
There is a variation in individual core usage.

During a production run, when the server load is running as described above, then we get the following ping times.
When we ping from a local pc to the Proxmox box bare metal network IP address - average ping times of <1ms
When we ping from a local pc to the Windows VM virtio network IP address - the ping times vary from <1ms to 60ms sometimes higher.

When the server cpu load drops - after the production runs have either finished or been terminated for the day, the ping times to the Windows Virtio network IP has ping times that are <1ms

Both local and remote users are unable to use the system as it now stands.
As you can imagine the remote users find it very, very difficult to use the system.
Not sure where to turn next, your ideas / suggestions / help would be appreciated.

Expand a qcow2 Windows Virtual

Hi
I quickly setup a Windows 8.1 Virtual pc with only 20GB.
After doing some testing I need to expand it by another 20GB.
I turned off the VM.
Used the Graphical interface, selected the VM.
Select Hardware, Select Hard Disk (virtio0).
Select Resize Disk, Add 20GB.
"command '/usr/bin/qemu-img resize /var/lib/vz/images/103/vm-103-disk-1.qcow2 37580963840' failed:exit code (500)"
Could I do a snapshot, create a new VM the correct size then restore the snapshot to that then boot from parted magic and adjust partition size?

I created a ceph node, but the health never goes to healthy.
I increased the pgs size from default, but don't know what else I can try.

Clusters stays like the following,

cluster 6b91e476-9579-43a1-a589-52e01a49bcc6
health HEALTH_WARN 256 pgs incomplete; 256 pgs stuck inactive; 256 pgs stuck unclean

osdmap e45: 7 osds: 7 up, 7 in
pgmap v99: 256 pgs, 1 pools, 0 bytes data, 0 objects
245 MB used, 3257 GB / 3257 GB avail
256 creating+incomplete

It is a brand new configuration.
Journals are on SSD, OSD's are created through the webinterface.

Why is it not fixing itself?
