pveceph - firefly or giant?

$

Hi all,

I've been experimenting with our cluster setup and I have a decent grasp of what we can and can't do with our equipment and I'm about to do a final wipe to our cluster to prep it to replace our vmware servers. I do have a quick question - I think pveceph install by default will install firefly - do those that have tried both firefly and giant, which performs better so far for proxmox?

Host down after latest round of updates

I performed a host update but the Web GUI became unresponsive so I restarted the server through the console but now upon startup I get:

Code:

GRUB Loading
Welcome to GRUB!
Error: file not found
Entering rescue mode

The server is on the pve no sub repo and doesn't do much (no mods or changes at all) have been made to it but it's obviously alarming that this can occur after an apt-get update.
Does anybody know how I can resolve this?

Hello, i've got a problem with my proxmox server.
I've done an upgrade of the server and since i've got this every 10seconds in my syslog :
Code:

Feb 13 05:14:37 sd-xxxxxx pve-firewall[2757]: status update error: command '/sbin/ip6tables-save' failed: exit code 1
When i execute this in command line, i've got this :
Code:

root@sd-xxxxxx:~# /sbin/ip6tables-save
ip6tables-save v1.4.14: Cannot initialize: Address family not supported by protocol

I think it's a problem with ipv6 but i've actually no more idea...
Don't know if someone can help me ?
My server has no ipv6 for the moment.

Thank you !

Installation problem Proxmox Mail Gateway 3.1 on VmWare ESXi 4.1

I try to install Proxmox Mail Gateway 3.1 on VmWare ESXi 4.1
Hardware:
  • Xeon 2,8 x 2 (64 bit), motherboard Intel SE7520JR23S, BIOS SE7520JR23 Version 10.00, Build 0087, Intel(R) RAID Controller SRCZCRX
  • another variant is HP ProLiant ML350 G5

According to the docs Mail Gateway 3.1 should run on 32-bit.

Proxmox Mail Gateway 2 was successfully installed, but Mail Gateway 3.1 gives (on both hardware)
"This kernel required x86-64 Cpu but only detected an i686 Cpu"
How to solve the problem?

'migrate' a MDS to another server

I want to remove a server from both my Ceph cluster and PVE cluster in order to reinstall it.

I've removed all mon+osds, but it hold one of my two mrs instances.

How do I add another server as a mds and remove the old one?

Can not find anything on [re]moving MDS expects for ceps-deploy, only now it says:

[ceph_deploy.conf][DEBUG ] found configuration file at: /root/.cephdeploy.conf
[ceph_deploy.cli][INFO ] Invoked (1.5.21): /usr/bin/ceph-deploy mds create node2
[ceph_deploy][ERROR ] ConfigError: Cannot load config: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'ceph.conf'; has `ceph-deploy new` been run in this directory?

thought I knew which server was used as admin when installing cep, only they all act the same and has the same ¨/.cephdeploy.conf content...

Networking in new VM

Hi guys im sure im missing something stupid here but have been searching the forum for two days and can't find what it is.

I have recently bought a dedicated server with a 1gbps connection the internet the server is a Dell poweredge 410. It has a clean install of Proxmox 3.3-1

If i start a speed test from the proxmox host i get 105MB a sec if I create a container I get the same speed. If i create a VM with any amount of cores from 1-32 any memory from 2GB-90GB every type of Network adapter including VirtIO and both IDE and VirtIO storage the speed i get from a speed test from that VM is about 20MB I have tested this with Windows VMs and Linux VMs with the same results.

As this is a clean install and I haven't changed anything am i missing something stupid?

Cheers for reading

Jon

Hi team,

I am new here and trying to deploy a 3 node cluster using ceph for the company
I'm using the following "http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Ceph_Server"

The problem is that I am receiving this error:

download and import ceph reqpository keys
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
unable to download ceph release key

I have already added the the repository:
deb http://ceph.com/debian-firefly/ wheezy main to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ceph.list

and the
wget -q -O- 'https://ceph.com/git/?p=ceph.git;a=blob_plain;f=keys/release.asc' | apt-key add -

to the system and its listed there as a trusted key.I do not know what else to do.
Any hint
Thanks in advance.

Latest ISO boots fine and shows the splash. At the bottom it says Booting. Press F2 for verbose mode. However that is as far as it gets. It just freezes, the light on my flash drive goes off and that is it until I reboot it. I tried putting debug in the boot options and it went along until it said "Unable to enumerate" the usb device. "No cdrom found". I don't have a sata dvd drive to install with. I tried installing Debian Wheezy, then Proxmox over the top of it and it got stuck in a dependancy circle that gave me a headache. How do I go about this?

no fstabs after installing debian standard template

$

Hello,

This is not really a configuration of Proxmox issue, but a container. I hope somebody will be able to help me though.

I installed an openvz template debian 7.0 standard as a container.
For an application that will be running in that container (ISPConfig), I need to have /etc/fstab configured.
However, it is not configured by default.:
Code:

# UNCONFIGURED FSTAB FOR BASE SYSTEM
I tried to add the root ( / ) by getting the information from df -T:
Code:

Filesystem    Type  1K-blocks  Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/simfs    simfs 209715200 988960 208726240  1% /
tmpfs          tmpfs    838864    52    838812  1% /run
tmpfs          tmpfs      5120      0      5120  0% /run/lock
tmpfs          tmpfs  1782560      0  1782560  0% /run/shm

So my fstab looks like this now:
Code:

#<file system> <mount point>  <type>  <options>      <dump>  <pass>
/dev/simfs      /      simfs  errors=remount-ro,usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0 0      1

Now, when booting I get the notification that the system does not recognise simfs. fdisk -l does not print anything.

How can I add (at least) the root to fstab?

Thanks

The storage run under Nexenta 3.1.5
The malfunction nature is - when I try to create new hdd i have error message like this:
Code:

command '/usr/bin/ssh -o 'BatchMode=yes' -i /etc/pve/priv/zfs/192.168.107.31_id_rsa root@192.168.107.31 zfs create -s -b 4K -V 33554432k sas/' failed: exit code 1 (500)
It seems like zfs create command don't get actual volume name for creation.
But when I downgrade libpve-storage-perl to 3.0-25 this problem disappears....

Hi!, is there any special option to use boot from SAN with PVE3?. I tried to install it on a LUN and it worked, but multipath was not used by the installer, only one path was chosen as boot disk.

ZFS & vzdump

$

ok, I know I must be missing something obvious, but I can't make vzdump work well with ZFSonLinux (Same box solution). When I first ran into this, I figured, "I'll just enable snapshots on the ZFS side, and forget the backups", but now, 12 months later, I'd actually like to try to solve it.

vzdump can't snapshot without LVM, so no snapshot.
vzdump can't suspend without LVM, so no suspend.
vzdump can only stop the VM, which leaves it down for, sometimes a lengthy period, depending on the size of the image.

I'm 100% happy with ZFSonLinux, it's given me everything i wanted in terms of IO performance, reliability, etc.. Now if I could just get snapshots to work with vzdump.

I even considering going with some form of LVM on top of a ZVOL, but I'm not sure if I want that much risk.. (and I don't especially like LVM anyway)

I'm curious what other people are doing? Ideas?

PVE install via debian hangs on vzctl

Hi

I am trying to do a fresh install of Proxmox on a PCengines APU. Due to the fact that it have to be installed by serial console I go the way through a fresh Debian 7.8 install instead of the bare metal installer.
After a successful clean install of Debian 7.8 I follow the instructions on http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Install_..._Debian_Wheezy and I can not install Proxmox because vzctl something wont go through.

Code:

Selecting previously unselected package vzctl.Unpacking vzctl (from .../vzctl_4.0-1pve4_amd64.deb) ...

1. I have modefid /etc/hosts to
Code:

root@apu:~# more /etc/hosts127.0.0.1      localhost

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts

fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts

2. My /etc/sources.list
Code:

root@apu:/etc/apt# more sources.listdeb http://ftp.at.debian.org/debian wheezy main contrib
## #
deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian wheezy pve

# security updates
deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib

I also tried by changing debian repo servers from at to ch or de . I also tried an installtion via pve-no-subscription instead of pve.

3. I changed the kernel to PVE, made uname-a and everthing went fine until:
Code:

apt-get install proxmox-ve-2.6.32 ntp ssh lvm2 postfix ksm-control-daemon vzprocps open-iscsi bootlogd
Any suggestions or ideas for me. A few months ago I installed several APUs with proxmox successfully, a wonderful cheap and stable way to test clustering.
