Hi Guys

Ok I seem to be having a weird one here.

I have created, deleted and recreated VM's with no issues using ide and sata discs ovr last few days trying to get some adsl bonding software working optimally. This was all fine.

A couple of days ago I installed one using virtio as the hard drive type, however I found that the system didnt like the Virtio network card I had set so I deleted and went to re-install.

For some reason now I cannot re-use the vmid I used as i it fails to create the vm with the follofing error.
create failed - lvcreate 'tmpmvms/pve-vm-101' error: Failed to activate new LV.

I can use a new vmid and creates and works fine but usign the same vmid as one that has had a virtio harddrive give the error.

Anyone got any ideas why this would be.

I have done a lvscan and the lv for the old vm is not showing as existing so im stuck to what the issue is.

Regards

Hello,

Does proxmox-ve require ipv6 networking?

We're shutting off ipv6 in as many places as possible due to some network issues we're trying to fix.

Hello,

I tried to make a backup of a virtual machine and got this:

INFO: starting new backup job: vzdump 19217 --remove 0 --mode snapshot --storage vmbackup.fortress --node ironworks
INFO: Starting Backup of VM 19217 (qemu)

INFO: Backup job finished with errors
TASK ERROR: job errors

I did some searching and it looks like this is related to LVM locking? I do run clustered LVM for DRBD.

Any ideas? I would really like to backup my VMs :)

Has anyone ever created a working KVM from a Clonezilla image successfully?

What quirks if any did you run into?

Proxmox 1.8 OpenVZ Ubuntu 12.04 VNC console???

How do you get the vnz console to work for openvz templates. I have an ubuntu KVM machine and the vnc console works, but for an openvz vm the console will not display and only shows "network error: could not connect to server: 192.168.1.100:5900" Any suggestions. I had the console working on another proxmox 1.5 install.

I've searched quite a bit but cannot figure out how to get this to work. I've installed proxmox 2.2 FRESH on a server. I can log in via the web UI but I cannot log in via console.

Code:

MyDomain.com login: root
Password: *************

Login incorrect
MyDomain.com login: _

Any ideas??? I even did a fresh reinstall, still does not work.

hardware compatibility - HP server & SAN

$

[warning - long post!]

i need some advice about an infrastructure we are developping for one of our customer.
the idea is to build a proxmox VE 2.2 system, with 2 nodes in HA configuration both connected via FC host adapter to SAN machine where VM will reside and operate.

what i need is to have compatibility guaranteed with HP new servers, Proliant ML350p Gen8 or DL380 Gen8 and their hardware so not to have any surprise when deploying the whole thing.
new hardware comes out every 3 months more or less so i cant always find licterature about compatibility issues.
other than that i need also to know if the hardware of the selected server will support the VM the customer needs and if the backup system is compatybible with Proxmox VE 2.2 (suggestions about backup softwares well accepted).

so let's go. here you are the hardware list.

2 Hp servers built like below: (PN included for reference, link to hp sites)

678237-421 HP ProLiant ML350p Gen8 Performance - Server - tower - 5U - 2 x Xeon E5-2650 / 2 GHz - RAM 16 GB - SAS - hot-swap 2.5" , DVDRW - Matrox G200 - Gigabit LAN 1 http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/it/it...961.html?dnr=1
652605-B21 HP 146GB 6G SAS 15K 2 http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10389176
672631-B21 HP 16 GB - DIMM 240 pin - DDR3 - 1600 MHz / PC3-12800 - CL11 - registerd - ECC 6 http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product.aspx?sku=10410173
647594-B21 HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T Adapter 1 http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10389193

so a 112GB ram Server, 2 8-cores cpu, raid 1 15krpm hard disk rfor the host to run proxmox, dual power supply 4+4 gigabit eth port to dedicate to the VM

the questions are:
- will SmartArray P420i controller work with Proxmox 2.2 without any flaws?
- will Hp 331T eth controller (Broadcom BCM5719 chipset, both for internal eth and for the pci-ex card) work with Proxmox 2.2 without any flaws?

1 adapters for every server, 2 8Gbs port
the SAN sports 2 FC controllers (plus iscsi eth ports but wont be used), both controller has two 8Gbs ports (and dual power suply too)

the questions are:
- HP StorageWorks 82Q HBAs (Qlogic
QLE2562 chipset) is 100% Proxmox 2.2 compatible?
- HP P2000 is a well know SAN, any other suggestions of other HP products?
- can 8Gbs ports be aggregated so to obtain a 16gbs trunk towards the SAN?

AJ716A HP 8Gb Shortwave B-series FC SFP+ 1 Pack 9 http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sk..._partno/AJ716B

these is a FC switch we plan to add if we will use a FC tape library (16 port enabled, 4 used to link server, 4 to link san, 1 to link the tape lubrary with the all needed sfp and cables

the questions are:
- if we dont add FC tape library, is it correct to state that NO FC switch is needed? i just link the FC HBAs to the FC controller in the SAN with 4 cables and everything will work?
- will the switch need some software to work with the SAN, or proxmox? i mean is it just a plug and work device as a eth card or need to be installaled? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

the Backup:

two different system:
an external sas tape with a controller installed in both the server and FC tape libraries (one with 8 1.5TB tape, one with 24)

the questions are:
- if we use SAS tape directly attached to the server, will the Smartarray P212 work with proxmox?
- if we will use FC tape libraries, will they work with proxmox?
- is it correct to make snapshots of the VM in the SAN and then move them to tape?
- has proxmox a built in software to do this or we should use a third party one? (bacula has been suggested to us)

more or less this is all i need to know about hardware.. :)

about VMs, we want to use
1 Windows Server 2012 Domain controller with file server task for 20 local user (16GB or 32GB ram allocated)
1 Windows Server 2012 with Windows Remote Desktop Services for 10 remote users (16GB ram allocated)
1 Windows Server 2012 with Exchange 2013 for 20 local users and 40 accessing trough webmail, notebook, tablet or smarthphone (16GB or 32GB ram allocated)
2 Windows Server 2012 with SQL management software for 20 local user and 10 on the terminal server (8GB ram allocated for each of them)
1 debian server with an asterisk server for backup purposes to a physical one (2GB ram allocated)

the last questions are:
- will the cpu support this load?
- will i be able so use both nodes to share work load and if one fails to pass all the load to the working one? (HA concept obvioulsy)

ok, that's all.
i know it's a long post and there are a lot of questions but we would really like to improve our skills in proxmox and proxmox hardware design instead of always using vsphere. we really like the proxmox concept and if the project will be accepted by our customers (2 of them interested) we will buy the proxmox support so to support the authours of this wonderful piece of software and to have all the security and warranties needed in a project like this.

i hope my english is quite readable (anyway we are italian so if yuo want to respond in our native language .. :)

thanks in advance to everyone who will read and comment this post.

In Proxmox VE 1.9 there was a button on the KVM console to do screen recordings which I found very useful.
Is this functionality still in pve 2.x and if so how do I get to it?

Hi I am trying to install proxmox on a raid 6 array, on an Adaptec 72405 card, but the installer is not seeing the array and says "No hard disks found".
It looks like it needs the drivers for the raid card, but I do not know how to provide the drivers to the installer?

Here is the driver downloads page: http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/support...aid/sas-72405/

Many thanks in advance,

Hello,

I want to migrate my KVM VMs from RAW format to QCOW2 in order to use snapshot feature.
I have found how to convert the disk file but I don't know where I can change the disk path (it is in read only in the web gui).
Is there a kind of XML file that I could edit somewhere ?

Thank you

Hi There

I'm using ezeelogin to manage a load of servers, of which around 10 are within my proxmox cluster

i'm trying to setup the ezeelogin Datacenter section up to allow my ezeelogin users to login to the proxmox interface from ezeelogin in 1 click and not need to be provided with the credentials to login (which is part of ezeelogins magic!)

i have a form like this to fill in (using Rackspace Cloud portal as an example)
0w3yCykVCN.jpg

i would normally go and view the source of the login page but this is somewhat obfuscated in proxmox, can you please advise what the relevant values need to be i suspect that extra variables will need to contain something that specifies PVE or PAM auth as well

is this possible at all?

Urgent Help Needed

So we tried to remove a node from the cluster. This is node 1 out of 12.

After it removed, we restarted the cluster. Now there is no quorum. Node 1 sees itself with cman and rgmanager start. Nodes 2 - 12 cannot start cman and there's no data (all the qemu-server folders are empty!!!)

I checked our SAN and the storage data is still there meaning the confs have been erased (not as bad)

I tried to start cman and I get corosync daemon cannot be started on nodes 2-12 (node 1 starts)

I can manually edit custer.conf on node 1 but that's it

any help is appreciated ...

Hello, colleagues!
I installed two CT from templates: debian-7.0-standard_7.0-1_i386.tar.gz and ubuntu-12.04-standard_12.04-1_i386.tar.gz.
On my PROXMOX WEB-GUI debian-7 console works fine, but ubuntu-12.04 console does not respond to pressing a button.
When I do stop and start ubuntu-12.04 CT, console shows that it's alive, but in the end there is no root prompt.
Ubuntu-12.04 is not finalized?
Tell me what to do.
Sorry for bad english.

I am having some trouble installing the latest build of proxmox. I am trying to install it on a PE2950 with a large virtual disk (10tb). I have tried setting paramaters (linux ext4 maxroot=25 swapsize=8 maxvz=400 minfree=32) at the boot prompt to install in by setting the sizes of the volumes but I keep coming across the error -

command 'chroot /target dpkg --force-confold --configure -a' failed with exit code 1 at /usr/bin/proxinstall line 172

Does anyone have any advice please?
