The Proxmox hosts IP adress ist 192.168.10.5.
I created an CT (Ubuntu Server). So now should i our venet or bridged mode?

What PC Parts you pick for your Proxmox Nodes

Hi all - how about using the PC Part Picker website to share build ideas?

I'm trying to get a sense of what hardware gets what performance and I realize that I'm spending a lot of time looking at parts lists and managing them.

I found a website a few years ago that helps you compare PC builds: PC Partpicker. You might like to try it.

Choose Storage - PCPartPicker 2014-07-31 07-26-15.jpg

So, for example, here's the start of Wasim Ahmed's "entry-level proxmox server" spec http://pcpartpicker.com/user/mrjcleaver/saved/ff3mP6 , per his book Mastering Proxmox.

And here's a server I built in 2008: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/mrjcleaver/saved/Qp7hP6

PC Partpicker will save your builds for you, and allow them to take comments:

mrjcleaver - Saved Part Lists - PCPartPicker 2014-07-31 07-34-01.jpg
So, I don't know of a better site, but perhaps this can be a way for the Proxmox community to share builds?
(The site makes money by recommending where you might buy those parts - I have no affiliation with them).

If this is something the leaders of this forum find valuable then we should add using this service as a recommendation on the wiki.
It's a much better way to share builds than is text.

Martin.

Trouble with the baremetal usb install

Hello,

Board/CPU: Supermicro x10SBA
Mem: 8GB DDR3
SSD: Samsung 256GB
Installation target: Leaf 16GB USB
Proxmox installer: Patriot 16GB USB

I am new to proxmox and I was not able to install it. I followed this guide.

- made bootable Patriot USB with proxmox iso
- install wizard launches, I select /dev/sdb Leaf drive
- does not exit gracefully, the boot loader could not be installed
- it appears that proxmox is trying to install the boot loader to /dev/sda Patriot which is causing the fail

To remedy this I set the BIOS boot order to list the Leaf USB drive first. However, with this method I cannot boot to the Patriot USB to install proxmox.

I then tried this (removed Leaf drive from the system):

- made bootable Patriot USB with proxmox iso
- install wizard launches, I select /dev/sda Samsung SSD
- install exits gracefully, I am prompted to reboot
- grub loads with options to start proxmox, proxmox recovery, memtest, etc
- selecting proxmox or proxmox recovery causes the system to reboot indefinitely

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

How to disable daemon autostart?

As we prepare for an upgrade, I want to take the smtpd offline on one of my cluster nodes. I can stop smptd easily enough in System gui, but "autostart" remains checked and greyed out, and the daemon restarts automatically on reboot. How can I disable that?

This is 2.5/4478, and the node is the secondary in a cluster. We've altered our MX records so most traffic is going through the other node (which is the master), but some traffic is still coming to the secondary, and I want to block it, so it doesn't get stuck in the spool when I shut it down for the last time.

Thanks,

Storage Options

Hello,

I'm new to Proxmox and these forums so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place.

We're moving over from OnApp but in the process, we're wiping out our SAN (currently powered by OpenFiler) and are looking for a new solution. Does anyone else use a open-source storage solution, such as FreeNAS or something similar? Do you use NFS, iSCSI or others? If NFS, what filesystem do you use?

We're just looking for the most recommended options so we can pin them up and make a decision on the best solution for us.

Thanks so much in advance! :D

Hello guys,

I'm new in openvswitch. Please help me set up openvswitch.

I have 1 host with 2 physical network adapters and 3 virtual machines.
Now network setup is:
bond0 type=linux bond port/slaves=eth0 eth1 no IP address
vmbr0 type=linux bridge port/slaves=bond0 IP address=192.168.1.12

Virtual machines should communicate each other through virtual switch ant communicate with real network.

How to configure the network?

Thanks.

Iscsi datastore isn't working

Relatively new to Proxmox.

I had this working before but my server died so I had to rebuild it.

Storage is a Freenas storage array. I have a 100 gig iscsi partition created. I have it mounted on Proxmox with no issues.
When I go to create an LVM partition so it's usable I name it, and pick the iscsi base storage. However there is never anything under Base Volume so I can't continue.

What, if anything, am I missing. I really need to get this online so I can re-create the vm's.

Thanks in advance.
Aric.

Getting Started?

Hello,

I'm a little confused with getting started on Proxmox, I've set it up on a VM for testing purposes until our main CP server becomes available and found the installation instructions in the wiki with ease, the installation was a breeze! But what next? I can't seem to find any instructions on where to go or where to start next, it just goes straight into creating VM's and containers.

I'm looking to setup a KVM HA cluster.

Sorry if I sound stupid :(

Thanks in advance!

Dear all,

I just installed Proxmox 3.2-4 and running 5 OpenVZ Debian CT in it. I found a frequent ping loss and high latency even I use direct Lan cable connection to the switch which is connected to the Proxmox server. Any hints on the reasons may occur this? Thank you all.

Hi PVE team and all people

Excuse me if my question is made in the incorrect forum

I read in the link "http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Ceph_Server" that is recommended the chassis "chenbro".

I see in this link a interesting chassis for my target:
http://usa.chenbro.com/corporatesite...il.php?sku=204

Then, i want to know if the chenbro chassis of twelve hard disk bays with a RAID controller Adaptec can work well for get that the red led work well it in case of failure of a hard disk. For me, with a Adaptec RAID controller get the red led work well in case of failure of a hard disk in the front of the chassis of each hard disk is my target.

I will be very grateful to anyone who can help me, and even more if you can give me very specific instructions.

Best regards
Cesar

Containers fail to load

Hi,

I'm slightly confused now as proxmox has suddenly shut down all of my virtual machines and they will no longer boot up. Having tried to google a solution i'm now starting to panic as it looks like all of the data has been lost somehow and there are no current backups (my own fault i know).

When checking folder /var/lib/vz/private it is empty. however /var/lib/vz/root is not and shows all of the IDs.

WHen trying to boot an existing container i get:

Code:

vzctl start 107
Starting container ...
stat(/home/private/107): No such file or directory
stat(/home/private/107): No such file or directory
Can't umount /var/lib/vz/root/107: Invalid argument
stat(/home/private/107): No such file or directory
Adding IP address(es): 85.10.241.4
Setting CPU units: 1000
Setting CPUs: 4
Unable to start init, probably incorrect template
Container start failed
Killing container ...
Container was stopped
stat(/home/private/107): No such file or directory
stat(/home/private/107): No such file or directory
Can't umount /var/lib/vz/root/107: Invalid argument

any help or suggestions would be appreciated, even if i can just recover some of the data and rebuild the containers... To add also when creating new containers there is no issue and it runs fine!

ceph mon question

is there any reason not to do this:

use a standalone pve host as a ceph mon to a pve ceph cluster?

zfs , live migration and performance considerations.

I have a proxmox host with 4x1Tb hdds in ZFS striped mirror setup and all vms are located on a dataset.
Now I am thinking to add another proxmox host with the same hardware config and zfs as backend storage.
I would like to test also live migration between these two nodes. So I am thinking of two possible scenarios:

1. zfs -> zvols -> drbd (for replication between nodes) -> lvm

and

2. zfs -> separate zfs datasets for each vm -> glusterfs (for vm replication between nodes)

Both scenarios should work.I was wondering if anyone has tested such setup and which of those has the better i/o performance
