Proxmox VE 3.2 on 3 nodes + Ceph - rbd error

$

Hi,
I'm trying to install Proxmox on 3 nodes and setup Ceph. Proxmox part works very well.
Problem begins while setting up Ceph. I followed this howto: http://www.jamescoyle.net/how-to/121...age-on-proxmox. Each step is done without any problem.
But when instalation is finished and I want to create VM I'm getting this error:

rbd error: rbd: couldn't connect to the cluster! (500)

and VM is not created. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? I spent many hours trying to figure it out but I'm loosing my confidence :(
Thanks a lot in advance.

ceph kvm file system type. ext4 or xfs?

$

Hello

from what I read at http://forum.proxmox.com/threads/185...ce-and-latency , It seems that for within a kvm it is better to use ext4 .

all our ceph kvm's use xfs for data storage disks... the ceph node kvm's are not as fast for some current disk io. ceph nodes show greater i/o delays at pve> summary ..

So the question is - for now does it make sense to use ext4 as default for kvm disks hosted on ceph?

Help Setting up Shared Block Device using Fibre-Channel

$

0
Hello,
After spending hours researching this, I finally give up. I have a NAS that directly connects to 4 Proxmox nodes using fibre-channel, and is sharing the same block device to all 4 nodes. Each Proxmox node sees the block device as /dev/sdc, but what I am trying to do is get "clustered" journaling working so I can use the storage for High Availability migrations.

I have tried OCFS2 as the file format, but the PVE Kernel has it disabled.
I tried Ceph, but it does not seem to do what I need (unless I am missing something?)
GlusterFS is the same story as Ceph, it seems to be able to "replicate", but doing that to the same "block" device would cause nothing but journal issues.
The only thing I was able to get to work at all was GFS2, but I was not very impressed with the speeds.

So, any hints/tips/tricks on getting a shared block device to work across 4 nodes for High Availability?

Also, because it seems to always be asked, here is my pveversion info:
Code:

Migrate VM from proxmox 1.9 to 3.2

Hello,

We have an old Proxmox 1.9 that hosts important VMs.
I've installed a new server with Promox 3.2 and I would like to know if there is a way to migrate VMs from 1.9 to 3.2? (if necessary via a 2.x).

Thank you for your advices.
Guillaume.

Java error authentication failed between PVE nodes

Hi to all

I have a PVE cluster, with PVE nodes 2.3, 3.1 and 3.2 versions
My Windows workstation have Java Version 7 Update 60

I have a problem with the Java VM consoles, ie that if i am connected to a PVE node that have 3.2 version and want the Java console of some VM that is in the same host, work very well, but if i want the Java console of a VM that is in other node that have PVE 3.2 version, don't work and see this message "Error: Authentication failed". And finally if i want the Java console of a VM that is in a old node that have PVE 2.3 version, very well.

My questions are what is the problem with PVE 3.2 version and how fix it?

Installing Proxmox 3.2 on a Mac Mini

Hey All, I'm not sure if this kind of thing is welcome here or not, but I recently had to reinstall Proxmox on one of the nodes in my lab, and it proved to be quite the challenge. I wrote a blog post so I can reference it in the future if needed, and I though I would share it: http://unixschool.org/installing-pro...on-a-mac-mini/

Hi. I did a vzdump from a 2.1 proxmox node, and then copied the dump to a proxmox 2.2 node. When I tried to do the vzrestore from the 2.2 node I got this error:unable to parse worker upid 'UPID:mymachine:00094940:1221122CF:539CE448:vzrest ore:107:root@pam:'Is possible that error comes for different proxmox versions between nodes?. If yes, how can upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 safely to lauch again the vzdump/vzrestore?thanks in advance :)

ksoftirqd/0 high cpu usage

Hi,

we've got a problem with one of our proxmox nodes. ksoftirqd/0 eats here sometimes 100% CPU on Core 0 (system has dual xeon E5-2620v2, 256 GB RAM, RAID6) and network is then slow /w packet loss.

We already bootet with kernel options nohz=off and pcie_aspm=off but it did not help. Overall load on the system is ~2.0 - 3.0, so this should not be the problem here.

The machine runs latest PVE with latest kernel:

VZDump hangs

Hi,
on a new N54L i have instaled v. 3.2-54885216-5 from cd and then updated to the latest version (12/06/2014 or 13/06/2014)
Mounted a dir (cifs) pointing a server that contains backup data.
Restored an old backup (KVM VM). Trying to make a new backup of the restored vm the backup hunged. :(

Wiped out and installed v.3.0-0428106c-13 without updating it.
Restored the same VM. The backup worked fine serveral time and no problems. :D

I have the same problem on a production server with 3.1.21 93bf03d4; the problem appeared after an update, before it the backups where performed right.

I noted this: in the v3.0 the data transfer to the server hosting backup files starts immediately, with v3.1 and v3.2 data transfer don't start, the window initially shows the progress with new report lines then stops and remain freezed, LAN is inactive.

There is a way to solve this problem?

Thank you

Hi,

I have a 2.2 installation running. I had to restart the server. I was able to log in to the web interface once. Now, three days later it always tells me Authenticaiton failed. Please try again.
I am using PAM authentication, same password, same login, nothing changed, only restarted. I cannot see why it is not working, but I have no clue what services need to be running.

Please, can anyone help?
Thanks

I am newbie to proxmox. I had tried to install VM using ISO (kvm). It worked fine. But when i tried to create CT from system appliance, it is showing as "running", but the console is showing black screen with ` symbol. Do i missed something? I just copied the template tar.gz to the template path. What is the performance difference between vm and ct? Which is better in production and please tell me the major differences?

I've done a fresh installation of latest version of Proxmox on my public server and it set vmbr0 to my Public IP 87.x.x.30, netmask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 87.x.x.1 while eth0 and eth1 aren't set. After this I created a brend new CT using official ubuntu 12.04 openvz template and setting with venet on private ip 192.168.1.51. So I tried to ping both gateway 87.x.x.1 and 8.8.8.8 without result.

Where am I wrong?

Hi, I have a server with 32GB. I have a VM to which I'd allocated 10GB RAM. In total the server was using 23GB memory. I destroyed this machine as it was no longer needed and attempted to create another VM with 10GB memory. It fails to boot with the error, "Cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory". It seems the memory used by the old VM was not released, and the server is still using just over 23GB RAM. How do I free up the memory? I have VMs allocated 2GB + 1GB + 1GB + 8GB + 1GB = 13GB allocated, but 23GB of memory is being used. Thanks, Mike PS: Apologies for the formatting of this post, but the forum is stripping out my line breaks.
