Dell Openmanage on Proxmox?

$

Seems like Dell distributes open manage as RPM. Does anyone know a way to install it on Proxmox?

It would be convenient, but not the end of the world if we can't.

Usage values and names disappeared from web interface

I have proxmox 3.0 last stable installed
And today in my web interface on one of the hosts in the cluster shows only numbers of containers without names and usage.

All is working ok but it seems like web interface is not getting values from proxmox daemon or smth

Reboot does help but I do not want to reboot it each time it happens

Can you help by advising which service to restart – not to reboot containers but to get all values showing again?

If it is necessary I can grab a screenshot of web interface.

I am wondering, has anyone got proxmox 3.0 installed on a HP p400i raid card and got alerts / monitoring of the array working?

What packages are needed to monitor the array?

How to connect tow server so they are working togheter?

Hi

I have a server at Hetzner and it works just fine using Proxmox 2.7 I have not yet tried to upgrade to ver 3.0. Just waiting some time to be sure all things in new version run smooth..

I would like install proxmox on another server I have located a different place. Installation will not be a problem. but can I make this new server (node) to appear in my hetzner setup as a server in the primary server.

Idea is having a simple solution setup in proxmox where I can do backup move files. maybe load balance when that is available between the server at hetzner adn my secondary server?

IF this can be done how is it done?

Thanks a lot

Console - Error input too long

$

Hello,

I recently installed a new Debian Wheezy System with Proxmox 3 and created the first QEMU VM.
Now. When I start the VM (works perfectly) and want to open the console I'm getting an error.
The popup with the console opens and there where the Java Applet was in Proxmox 2 is only a text telling me:
Error input too long - aborting (500)

Now this keeps me from installing the VM since the port is also not opened (don't see anything in the log window about that), so I can't connect with an external VNC Client.

Since Proxmox 3 doesn't use Apache 2 anymore I have no idea where a log file is that can tell me more.
Syslog only shows the authentication successful.

The only thing I changed is the SSL certificate.

Hope someone can help me with that and thanks for the help ;)

Yours,
Marc

Hi,

when i to an livemigration from an Windows 2008 Server r2, after the migration is finish i can do something in RDP and after a few minutes i can only reset the VM. The Image is on an NFSshara. I testet the migration between two identical HP Servers. And once i migrate from an opteron to an xeon. Every time the same.
Code:

Scsi controller Type: Isi Default
Disktyp qcow2
1 Socket 4 Cores
4GB RAM
Network Virtio

What is going wrong? With Linux this works normaly. I've not testet this with Windows7 or 8.

proxmox ve zfs does not mount on boot

installed proxmox and created a few VM's running on ZFS, worked fine for a couple of reboots, but all of a sudden it stopped mounting the zfs filesystem on boot.

seems pvestatd is creating files in the pool, so when ZFS tries to mount it fails with:
cannot mount '/proxmox1_local_ssd/Containers': directory is not empty

same for all filesystems

the only workaround I found was:

zpool export proxmox1_local_ssd
rm -r /proxmox1_local_ssd
zpool import proxmox1_local_ssd
zfs mount -O proxmox1_local_ssd/Images
zfs mount -O proxmox1_local_ssd/Containers
/etc/rc3.d/S22pvestad restart

taht way I can manually start my vm's again.

any idea why it stopped working and what I need to do to get in working again?

Please help, hopefully simple problem with kvm not starting w/CDROM drive on DL380 G6

Hello. I'm being stymied by my latest attempt to get Proxmox VE 3.0 working as a replacement for a very stable and reliable production server runnng Proxmox VE 1.5 or so. I haven't yet begun trying to do any migration of anything, because I'm getting stuck on the initial installation, where I've started off with a new server hardware platform (not bleeding edge, but a new-in-box HP Proliant DL380 G6, with a pair of quad-core L5520 Xeons & 32 Gb of RAM, which should be more than plenty of power to get this up and running for the small jobs it is slated for.

HP Proliant DL 380 G6 System specs:
CPUs: (2) Xeon L5520 quad-core
RAM: 32 Gb ECC
Bios: P62 dated 5/5/2011 (latest that HP shows for this model)
IPMI: Up & running ILO2, and updated to latest firmware also
Storage: (4) 600 Gb 10K SAS HP-branded 2.5" drives in a RAID5 configuration and connected to the embedded
HP SmartArray P410i.
Optical drive: Generic slimline DVD-ROM drive, SATA.

The problem is that while I can install Proxmox VE 3.0 with either CD or USB flash drive, once it is installed, nothing seems to be able to use the DVD-ROM drive thereafter, and ANY KVM I create that has a CDROM drive won't start as long as the drive is part of the configuration, unless I tell it that there is no media.

I've checked the CMOS settings, and all the virtualization options are enabled, and have been from the start.

The HP DL380 G6, while being a slightly older generation machine, isn't so outdated as to be useless, is it? It still has another year left on the original HP warranty, and literally was new when I opened it, with all the discs & paperwork one would expect with a new server.

What am I missing? The optical drive works fine until I reboot into Proxmox VE 3.0, & these servers are almost as common as insects, so surely someone has already solved this problem before me...

I'm currently typing on this system with it booted off of an Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 USB drive in trial mode, and everything else I've tried to run or install on this hardware hasn't shown any problems that I've been able to notice.

I'm off to try Proxmox 2.3, for now, as I don't expect an immediate response, and I must keep moving forward with this project. If that doesn't work, I'll just have to do a direct install of Windows Server on it, an worry about the other server replacements another time, but if someone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it, as I can revisit this another time, and migrate the direct install to a VE later, if I have to. Thanks.

Edit: I can mount, read, and umount the optical drive ok, from this live-usb boot, so I know the hardware is working well enough to read (I even installed a few times from booting from it too). What should I look at next?

Backup either fails or says no space but a 3TB drive is 95% free .... and it works with lzo but not gzip

how to measure backup MB/s ?

$

We're trying to increase backup to shared storage transfer rates. BUt Need to know which MB/s to use.

I assume it is best to use the TOTAL line from a backup email report then the MB/s within the detail log.

For instance if a TOTAL line looks like this:

TOTAL 00:32:21 101.91GB

then the actual MB/s would be:

32 Minutes x 60 + 21 = 1941 total seconds

101.91GB * 1024 = 104,355 total MB

size divided by seconds:
104,355 / 1941 = 53.7 MBs

that is a lot different the the detail parts of the log which show lines like these:
Code:

  101: Aug 10 19:36:56 INFO: transferred 34363 MB in 240 seconds (143 MB/s)

  105: Aug 10 19:45:05 INFO: transferred 59055 MB in 486 seconds (121 MB/s)

  4113: Aug 10 19:47:51 INFO: transferred 42949 MB in 163 seconds (263 MB/s)

I assume the detail log MB/s is skewed due to doing calculation based on non compressed data? But I am not sure.

Which MB/s should be used to determine backup/transfer speeds?

Hi,

we would use proxmox for enterprise. And the question which keeps allways coming up is: Is Proxmox certified for the hardware manufacturer, like HP? So can i phone to HP and say we've running proxmox on us servers? It is not a problem for me, but for the Boss...

For the last 10 hours my OVh ProxMox Debian 6 server has been offline do to I for got the root password.
I know, I know silly me, do you know what, this will happen to all off us, forgetting the root password.

What I have been trying to figure out is how can I create a new root password so I can get my server back online.

I know that OVH has this http://help.ovh.co.uk/RescueMode, as I follow this how to i get some strange fail like this.

My server is in rescue mode and I am asking you ProxMox experts, please assist me. Please guide me to the right directions, show me how
to change the root password while my server is in Rescue Mode.
OVH does not work on the weekends and gb-servers well some of you know how they are. Well every minute counts.

I appreciate all the help I can get from you.

Help! Migration problems on cluster

I'm having problems migrating containers between nodes. I currently have three nodes, gryphon and fearless, which are running 3.0, and akagi, which is running 2.3. At first, I thought it was a problem migrating from a 3.0 node to 2.3, but I added the 3rd node today, and I tried migrating from fearless (3.0) to gryphon (3.0), which failed:

Code:

Aug 11 13:43:13 starting migration of CT 107 to node 'gryphon' (192.168.224.14)
Aug 11 13:43:13 container data is on shared storage 'local'

Aug 11 13:43:13 initialize container on remote node 'gryphon'
Aug 11 13:43:13 initializing remote quota
Aug 11 13:43:13 # /usr/bin/ssh -o 'BatchMode=yes' root@192.168.2.14 vzctl quotainit 107
Aug 11 13:43:13 vzquota : (error) quota check : stat /var/lib/vz/private/107: No such file or directory
Aug 11 13:43:13 ERROR: Failed to initialize quota: vzquota init failed [1]
Aug 11 13:43:13 start final cleanup
Aug 11 13:43:13 ERROR: migration finished with problems (duration 00:00:01)
TASK ERROR: migration problems

I have also tried fearless -> akagi (2.3), which failed in the same manner. In all cases, the config file gets moved from /etc/pve/<oldnode>/openvz to /etc/pve/<newnode>/openvz. But none of the filesystem gets moved.

I've tried both live migrations and on shut down containers, and both fail.

What am I missing? I was able to freely migrate containers between nodes in 2.3.

Thanks,

How to get the status of Proxmox API?

$

I run this PHP code for $vmid = 101
Code:

$result = $pve2->post("/nodes/$svr_hostname/$svr_virt/$vmid/status/start");
The result is:
Code:

UPID:dsi-094117:000471B3:058A929A:5207DFD9:qmstart:101:root@pam:
I need to get the same result provided by Proxmox Web UI:
- When VMID 101 is not started then Proxmox Web UI says: OK
- When VMID 101 was already started then Proxmox Web UI says: ERROR: VM 101 already running

Any idea? Or should I check the node status before perform $pve2->post ?
What does the "000471B3:058A929A:5207DFD9" mean?

Hey guys,

I have been running proxmox now for over a year in production on two servers and it has been great. I would like to upgrade to the newest release but it seems like my two servers can not access any internet, the strange thing is that the underlying vms have access to internet and are spinning fantastically.

both servers have these as their network configuration :

eth0
ip : 192.168.1.x
gateway : 192.169.1.1
vmbr0
ip : 192.168.1.x
gateway : void
bridge : eth0

Please help ?

Thank you

3.10 Kernel for Proxmox

$

We don't require OpenVZ support and need to leverage some of the newer support/features in the 3.x kernel series. If anyone is interested to try these out the packages are here:

https://www.btg.co.nz/public/proxmox

Included in the above is also a copy of the /etc/default/grub file I am using, when you change this file you will need to run update-grub and reboot. All through my testing I have left the existing 2.6.22 kernel installed and booting, I suggest you do the same.

This is obviously COMPLETELY unsupported but if you need some of the newer features/improvements in the 3.x kernel series and don't need OpenVZ support then by all means it's worth a go just to test.

Yes we will be running these in production, but if you want to I suggest you test carefully as we have/are.

As always YMMV...
