I have always been an openvz user and with openvz i do remote uncompressed backups using rsync, this provides me with the least amount of overhead and slowdown in backups ( mysql is dumped and included in the rsync ). That way if worse comes to worse I could fire vz vms directly from the backups ( since the file system files is all you need for vz ) without the added time of uncompressing etc.
What would you guys use for a similar light weight backup of KVM virtual machines. Is there any tool that would do syncs between remote kvm images? While we are at it, is there a tool to make be able to mount such an image and extract files from it normally? See I am perfectly willing to have the same space taken in a remote server ( not compressed ) if I have a ready to go backup.
