VirtioFS and Snapshots?

I saw in the release notes that snapshots are not supported.

Is this a normal case of 'we havent tested the scenario'?

as a)snapshots without RAM (like for PBS) are supported and virtiofsd seems to be capable:

So I assume it isn't a fundemental limitation of virtiofs? Or is this a design decision to do with the complexity of what happens to open files? as described in the doc above? my assumption is on a...
