Build a VM with the same look and feel as the Proxmox base and LVC’s

This should be straight forward, but how to build it is a mystery to me. What I’m looking to do is to create a Debian 12 based VM that has the same terminal behavior that we experience as the Proxmox base and Proxmox generated Debian LXC’s. The specific problems I’m having difficulty with is the inability to have cut and paste available, the inability to highlight and select text on the screen with a mouse, and the presence of a scrollbar to view and select history.
