We have small cluster with 15 nodes.
This cluster always has problem cluster syncronization, we always need restart cluster nodes.
Proxmox very does not stable product on cluster systems.

/etc/init.d/pvestatd does not fix problem syncronization.

Problem installing snl (solidworks network licensing)

$

Hi to everyone (and sorry for my English).
I m using proxmox 3.0 since 2 years and i never had a problem before.
Recently my organization bought "solidwork epm" that requires the istallation of snl (solidworks network licensing).
Installing that software on a virtulal "windows server 2008 r2 std" gives me the message (traslating from italian) "the license activation is not supported in this virtual environment . you can continue with the installation , but the activation fails" .
The questions are:
How can it know in which evironment is running?
How can I set my virtual environment to be like a certificated one, like VmWare and Hyper-V are?
I have a plan B: install snl on a physical machine but i consider it a failure...

Thanks in advance.

pveproxy, no webroot?

After upgrading from 2.3 -> 3.x, I've come to find out that apache2 is no longer in use and pveproxy is used instead. I have a php script used for hardware monitoring that worked under apache2, as a default site, under /var/www/html in the previous setup. I'd like to access the script over port 80 w/o redirect any of the standard proxmox ports and I'm unsure if this is something can I can add manually in the /usr/bin/pveproxy script via adding the following lines:

Code:

my $socket = $self->create_reusable_socket(80);
add_dirs($dirs, '/www/' => '/var/www/html/');

Is this possible? Is this the right direction to go in? Or is it possible to drop the file somewhere else for pveproxy to pick it up on port 80?

Hello,

I am using openvz with proxmox and want to also use KVM now.
Is it possible to set/change the root password for a cloned vm over the api? As far as I've seen it, has a cloned VM the same password like the KVM Template.

Thanks!

Weird problem with typing in console

Hey folks,I am trying to use proxmox in my homelab, and I am having a bit of a problem with the console. When rebooting a machine it works fine for a little while, but after closing and reopening the console window (maybe after first try, maybe after a couple closing and reopenings) all characters are prefixed by ^[ in the login screen, and I can't even type if someone is logged in.It looks like this: Any way to fix that? I've tried reloading the VPN window, but that doesn't fix it. I'd really like to find a way to fix it without rebooting the VM...Thanks!Edit: Sorry don't know why the text is being formatted like that in this post, I tried adding spacing between some lines but it seems to go back like this. Sorry

Configure Firewall to seperate an subnet (DMZ)

$

Hello,

Situation:
- 2 real subnet (no VLANs)
- 2 Interfaces on Proxmoxhost
- 1 Interface for the DMZ (bind directly to fortigate)

So i would like to configure the firewall that VMs in the DMZ are not able to communicate over the physical Interface to the hostmachine. So i read the wikithread for firewallconfig. Is it really right that i must configure the firewall first for the host on all needed ports? I only need rules for this DMZzone. But sorry i not really know about this rules. It is not logical for me, ... some rules are not possible.

So for example. I would like to set a firewallrule vor VM100 that this vm can't connect to hostmachine on port 22. So what must i do?

Thanks for help

Strange network issue on Win7 Guest

Hello,

i use Proxmox on a dedicated server and iam running a windows 7 machine as guest.
The server is connected over gigabit and the guest has the virtio network card. From both, the guest and the host i transfer files to my home.
When transfering files from the host then i get full speed of 50Mbits (my home connection is 50Mbits) but when transfering files from the guest to my home pc over ftp the speed per transfer stucks at 15Mbit/s
If i transfer a second file simultan the second file also gets 15Mbits, so the connection seems not to be the problem. But why the speed stucks at 15Mbit per thread?

Someone any idea?

Mac OS X as a Guest -- Advice needed on how to best deploy some virtual machines

$
0
0
Hello all,

You have probably seen posts regarding Mac OS X as a guest before, and I know everyone's probably tired of it being brought up, but I have a unique situation that really makes me wish I could run a few OS X VM's on Proxmox.

My deployment:

Ok, so I have 3 computers that will act has my virtualization hosts. They're actually Apple Mac Mini's. Quad Core i7 CPU's (3615QM Ivy Bridge 2.3GHz with Hyper-Threading Support), 16GB of RAM, a 1TB HDD, and a 256GB Samsung 850 Pro. They should be more than adequate for my workload.

So, the VM's I need to run are as follows: 5 MySQL Servers running on Ubuntu 14 LTS, 2 Windows 2008 R2 Servers, 1 Windows 10 vm, Approximately 20 Tomcat/Apache web servers, and 3 Mac OS X VM's.

What I would LOVE to do is set up a Proxmox Cluster so that I can run the Windows & OS X instances under KVM, and utilize OpenVZ for my Tomcat/Apache web servers (I think this would REALLY help with resource allocation vs. full machine virtualization for each of the 20). But, I've never had any luck whatsoever getting OS X to run on Proxmox. I've tried countless times, and it just fails, fails, fails.

I'm currently running ESXi as the hypervisor on all 3 Mac Mini's (which can host OS X, Windows, or Linux VM's with no problem, but the resources utilization of the Tomcat servers is just really, way too high than is ideal.

So 1st and foremost if ANYONE can give me detailed, and explicit instructions that actually WILL get Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite running on Proxmox version 3.4 I would be eternally grateful. In fact, if you have this working on your system PLEASE post a template for me. ATTENTION: I AM NOT suggesting any intellectual property rights, or licensing be violated. What I'm suggesting is that someone get their OS X 10.10 KVM system running perfectly on Proxmox, then cleanly shut down the OS until the VM is stopped. Then use vzdump to create a perfect backup of the virtual machine (which I believe will be contained in a single tar file?). Then, before posting it here, un-tar the backup, delete the VM disk file itself (VMDK, or whatever format you're using) and replace it with a 0k placeholder (just run "touch filename.vmdk" or something so that it is apparent exactly what the filename was, and where in the hierarchy the file was). Then, after you have DELETED THE actual virtual disk file that contained OS X, re-tar the file back up and post it up on here.

This should NOT be violating anyone's terms or intellectual property because Mac OS X would absolutely NOT be contained in the posted tar file. However, someone like me, who has man Mac systems, with legal licenses to OS X, who actually plans to be running these VM's directly on Apple Hardware would be able to actually get this working. I could just grab the vmdk from a working OS X 10.10 system in one of my VMware virtual machines probably, maybe needing to convert it.

If someone could do this, that would be amazing. But, for whatever reason, I always feels like this is just NEVER going to happen. SO......

In that case, how about my 2nd idea: to install a single Proxmox instance onto each of my 3 Mac Mini's running ESXi. Have all 3 Proxmox VM's tied together as a cluster. Having most of my Mini's resources assigned to the Proxmox VM's. Then, running my OS X, and Window Servers in VMware VM's on the ESXi layer. BUT, running all my Tomcat, Apache, and even MySQL servers as OpenVZ servers on the Proxmox cluster.

Is this something that could actually work with good performance in a production environment? I know it'll actually work technically, I've done it a few times as a proof of concept, but never had time to do any real benchmarking, and certainly haven't done it in production yet. Could this work? It just seems like getting those 20 Tomcat systems into OpenVZ would make all the difference in the world as far as my overall cluster performance.

So proxmox lovers... someone... anyone.... please save the day and give me the magic OS X keys to the kingdom!@! =)

Thanks all.

Hello
I have successfully migrated an hundred of xen vm (debian 4/56/7) to proxmox, using xenmigrate_new.py.
I have cleared /boot/grub/grub.cfg by any occurence of console=hvc and inittab as well.
Now that I have more than 1 hundred of vm running, I ma noting che after some time and after some events, in /boot/grub/grub.cfg
console=hvc
is still there. Maybe when I upgrade with apt-get upgrade and new kernel is installed...I dunno.
Sadly it is still there.
How can I get rid of it for ever and ever?
Thx

I'm following the guide to set up a four-node Proxmox Ceph cluster on my Dell c6100.

Each node has dual gigabit ethernet and dual infiniband adapters. Everything has gone smoothly until I get to pveceph createmon, where it apparently can't find an address even though it is clearly configured, available, and working.

The Proxmox cluster is configured on ib0 and working properly as far as I can tell. There are no errors, and all the nodes show fine in the web interface. The ceph cluster is intended to be on ib1, but I can't create the monitor for some reason. Any ideas?

CPU definitions? ie. kvm64 vs qemu64 (pfSense/FreeBSD troubles on AMD X2)

Hi there,

I'm trying to get to the set of CPU settings to run pfSense (freebsd based) on an AMD CPU. While the VMs works fine on Intel, they fail on the AMD with host and KVM64/32 cpu settings, but work with qemu64/32 settings. Googling, I found that there are on some qemu-kvm version a "-cpu ?dump" option or even a cpus-x64.conf file with the defintions, but I can't find anything in ProxMox to tell me the definitions used for the various CPUs. I'd like to see at minimum the differences between the qemu64 and kvm64 to try and get the best/optimal settings for these pfSense/FreeBSD VMs.

pve-manager/3.4-6/102d4547 (running kernel: 2.6.32-39-pve)
